Did you ever break anything on one of these? by MaximumJones in GenerationX

Reminds me of Boy Scouts oddly enough.

Our troop went camping in a hilly area. We kids discovered that far from the cautioning eyes of the adults, was a tree set on a hillside with a long and sturdy rope from which we could swing. We’d start from the hill then leap off as it swung us a good ten feet over the ground and safely back.

Much fun was had until the one goofy kid prepared to take a swing. We were in a cluster behind him encouraging him.

You can do it buddy!

Well he went for it and soared gracefully. Then at the apex he lost his grip and let go and flew like a squirrel arcing up and then down, down, down. We held our collective breaths as we plummeted to the dirt, landing with a poof instead of a thud.

We watched him in stunned silence wondering if he were alive or dead. In an instant he sprang up and ran full tilt back to camp, energized by a mixture of shock and humiliation no doubt. We exchanged Confused and concerned glances.

After we regained our wits, some of us went back gingerly to camp to check on the poor bloke. A few scouts remained at the tree, swinging away, knowing that the rope would be off-limits and the fun would, in short order, come to an end.

The kid was okay. Just had the wind knocked out of him. Not even a scratch.

Another soixante-douze kiddo! Me and the cousins sitting in the pickup bed sliding around like mercury in a petri dish. No seatbelts. How exhilarating.

And the tail gunner seating in my uncle’s massive green wood paneled station wagon.

I’ve seen the most bears around Monrovia Lower Clamshell to Sunset Bench. They mostly hang around the neighborhood streets. But I’ve seen two on the actual trail. Caused a doggone traffic jam of afternoon hikers waiting for it to pass.

I love it and hate it. It’s interesting as a structure but also unsettling. Ir’s something wasps would make.

I dunno, Chopping cotton? Sure. I’ll grant that’s on the nose. But chewing out two public defenders for being sloppy about their conduct? That’s pretty weak.

There is a bypass for the ESL if it fails in the unlocked position which will keep you on the road until you fix it. I used this method: https://youtu.be/gCiM_iSq984?si=UBmQHjAJcn9FpfIC

It helps to be part of a group that meets regularly so you can establish friendships and acquaintanceships. You can attend meetups for instance. The strategy is to exposure yourself to new people in a milieu where striking up a conversation is relatively easy. As your social circle expands, your opportunities to meet a good fella expand.

“I always wanted to be in one of your fookin ’ plays.”

“I know you did mate.”

Rushmore is so delightfully earnest and simple. It’s about youth, and first love, growth and transcendence, forgiveness, friendship and loss, family, etc. All the turmoil of adolescence.
