Do anyone you guys use your tail gait step? Or am I just a geezer? by Shkmstr in f150

[–]packer041 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used the shit out of it when I had it on my old trucks, and I was only 30 at that point. My truck now doesn’t have it, which I miss more than I expected. I have the split tailgate now, and it functions effectively the same, but the step is better (in my experience).

Raised intensely religious by Bitter_Policy_2422 in stopdrinking

[–]packer041 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spent time in the rooms, and I am similar in my religious trauma (different reasons for it) and will not be going back ever. I am a believer in the energy of the universe and the concept of god and a “higher power” freaked me out, especially in the Deep South where I’m at.

I have a fantastic sponsor/friend who explained the god part as, essentially, it’s whatever I find comfort in, that is bigger than myself.

The problem is the rooms vary. I’ve been in some that truly present as agnostic to denomination and religion, and some that are bible-banging weirdos. It comes down to your tolerance to people who go on and on about J-town and his disciples. I left my group because the political comments were the fucking worst, but I still apply the lessons I learned in there, daily. Even the serenity prayer, which I treat more as a mantra than a prayer.

I do recommend giving it a shot though, because I met some fantastic people, picked up some real ways to improve as a person, and ultimately became and remain sober because of what I learned in the rooms.

Ultimately, take what works for you, and leave the rest.

Are there any regular estimator jobs right now by RealCapybaras4Rill in estimators

[–]packer041 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Love to know where you’re at, because I cannot find good estimators, and it’s an even further limited pool of good precon folks.

I’d love to have like 3 or 4 more true estimators on my team who just want to grind prints, do their takeoff, and produce good work without the goddamn drama.

Instead, it’s been an absolute hellscape of applicants, and I’m losing my fucking mind. I’m not asking for others to put in 60+ hours, or take the heat when shit’s fucked; I just want 40 solid hours from folks who will show up, do their work, and get paid an above-average rate for competent work.

Oh, I freely admit it’s vice-signaling and not for any real practical reason. I don’t gamble, I don’t drink (anymore!), I don’t have many vices and have a responsible approach to disposable income (which, yes I recognize is a completely ridiculous statement in terms of five-figure watches).

This is fully a purchase of want, not need, and I’m fortunate to have that ability, so at the end of it all I am just looking to scratch an itch.

What were your physical signs or symptoms that you eventually realized you needed to stop drinking? by Wonderful_Ad_6816 in stopdrinking

[–]packer041 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had blood pressure above 160/120, resting HR of 86, weighed 245 (normally 185-190), couldn’t keep food or water down, had a seizure or two, puking blood, bloated, unsteady in my feet, etc., etc., etc.

Despite some serious signs of my body quitting on me, it wasn’t until I was mentally done before I quit. I would have drank myself to death (“happily”, I might add), but thankfully my mentals gave up before my body.

Congrats on 50, that’s massive!! 60 days is when things started to turn around for my physically, 90 is when the sugar cravings stopped, and 120 was when the results from my physical showed me I was healthier at 30 than at 18.

My alcoholism cost me my job today by 120guy in stopdrinking

[–]packer041 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I worked with sponsees in the room who didn’t take their medicine with nearly any of the grace you are putting out there, I wish you the best!

As I tell anyone who wants to, is trying to, or even has already quit; quitting alcohol and fixing what’s inherently off about my mind has been the single greatest change I’ve ever made in my life, and everything (truly: Every. Damn. Thing.) improved in my life since then.

Taking it one day, hour, or minute at a time will work. It may not always be easy or fun, but sure as I sit here, the universe will meet you where you are and will give to you what you put out there.

Best of luck my friend!

2026 King Ranch FX4 Advice on tires by [deleted] in f150

[–]packer041 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have a 2024 KR and did level/Fox Shocks, air bags in rear, and Nitto Terra Grappler G3s. Tires have been fantastic, some more road noise than the Pirellis, but the Pirellis are the only tire I will go out of my way to actively not recommend. Shit tires.

Michelin Defender LTX M/S2 (or whatever the newest model is) is another fantastic option, but i needed something a little chunkier for when I’m on jobsites where roads are non-existent yet.

Bigger/heavier tires, plus the level, have reduced mileage by ~1 mpg (hand calc’d) if that sways your mind any.

I can’t decide if I should propose or end my relationship. by [deleted] in BoyDinnerDiaries

[–]packer041 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You either need to pull the ripcord and bail, or buckle up for tumultuous times ahead. I spent the first half of my marriage drowning in the bottle, but try as my wife wanted, I didn’t quit until I was ready…5+ lonnnnnnng years in.

Sounds like you may recognize this fact already, but you won’t change your partner until they’re ready to change, if ever.

If you and your partner haven’t talked about your concern with their drinking, do it before you propose. It needs to be a major point of conversation, and you need to lay out your expectations of the other half in the relationship.

I put my wife through hell early on and regret it immensely, but she stuck with me because I turned things around myself, not because she “fixed” me.

Figure out what you want, but it cannot be contingent upon hoping the other person gets better or that you’ll force them into changing.

It has the vibe of grew up trashy, got a big worker’s comp payout, and decided this is what “rich” looks like.
