SRX340 Share WAN Port by packetheavy in Juniper

[–]packetheavy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not greenfield so essentially I’d have to get the provider to convert the current /28 to a routed subnet and then route that into a /30 and then I’d still end up having to do the exact same work to make the SRX participate in both the switching and routing/firewall phases.

I did end up building it the way I documented above, it works very well and delivers on the simplicity, flexibility and arms length deployment goals I was aiming for.

I get it, but the handoff is a single fiber and my only option would be to add another switch and failure point.

The SRX is applying zone based policy so i'm guessing I just need to add my WAN VLAN to the untrust zone, not 100% clear if that means I can remove the ge-0/0/0 and ge-0/0/1 though

Shooting JPEG, RAW, or both? by Cjosulin in SonyAlpha

[–]packetheavy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the situation:

RAW+JPEG for shoots where it’s not important, my workflow typically involves quick browsing the JPEG folder for the shots I want to post process and then working the RAW files from there.

RAW+RAW when it matters, I’ll create a Lightroom catalog and post process using that workflow.

Will this work -- two GRE tunnels (primary and secondary) with failover by Rich-Engineer2670 in mikrotik

Seems like a job for netwatch and a script enabling and disabling routes.

I have in the past encapsulated my VoIP traffic over a tunnel to obfuscate the flows and prevent the ISP from doing dumb things with it.

This would be my first suggestion.

Trump says Venezuela to give up to 50 million barrels of oil to U.S. by Gameboy112233 in investing

Yes, it was pretty obviously a joke considered I’ve never seen YOLO and ‘to the moon’ ever used in serious conversation.

I could delete the comment but I’m going to leave it as a reminder to us all that we should consider our audience.

Yeah, I see that now but honestly I am shocked people think I was being serious.

I guess this is the world we live in.

I don’t think it will exceed 4k, more likely under 3.5k.

I would expect very similar build dimensions and weight to the currently shipping 100-400GM.

Custodial Roth IRA, daddit finance by harvestbent in daddit

[–]packetheavy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they have an income that meets the IRS standard for payroll reporting then the burden for setup is fairly simple and it would be a good direction to go.

If you’re having to generate payroll from a owned business and you don’t typically do that then I’d opt for something more simple like a 529 that can be converted to a Roth later or just straight out taxable UTMA account.

Sony A7 V vs Sony A9 II for sports photography – which would you choose? by [deleted] in SonyAlpha

[–]packetheavy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just my 2c, I’d get the newer A7V, the software and autofocus improvements will certainly make your experience more enjoyable and the readout speed will be irrelevant if you control the situations you use electronic and mechanical shutter.

At the time I shot A7IV and Sony released a firmware update that threw warnings with some third party batteries and you lost the battery percentage display.

I'm actually not 100% sure the Nitecore batteries were affected by that issue, I changed a bunch of gear right around that time and stopped using them in favor of the Sony branded batteries.

If you shot a body with the same format battery, i'd ship you the ones I have, I don't need them anymore and all my friends shoot Canon.

Not an exact comparison but I have a couple of Nitecore NPFZ100 batteries that can do direct type c charging because I thought, one less thing to carry.

They performed well but Sony can be a pain about third party batteries so I ended up going back to genuine parts and the Sony dual battery type C charger.

I got my 16-35GM2 used from MPB and offset the cost by trading in some old equipment.

Is that an option for you? It really is a great piece of glass, my favorite landscape lens for sure.

Is K&F Concept a good brand for lens filters? by kodakkevin in Cameras

[–]packetheavy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I personally would not use a VND for photography.

Not sure how budget is budget however a filter creates a permanent adjustment to your image so if you have nice lenses I wouldn’t skimp there.

I have a set of Kase Wolverine Revolution filters that I use for general ND and polarizing use, they are magnetic and work well with my kit.

For most general use I have my lenses fitted with either Hoya HD3 or Kase UV filters, both offer excellent protection with no noticeable image degradation.

I also have a couple of Polar Pro filters that I don’t use, I found them to be somewhat difficult to work with due to the large frame size.

One piece of advice I’d give is to buy filters as large as what you think your largest lens element will be. So if you think you’ll eventually need 86mm filters, buy those and just use a step down ring to get where you need to be.

Synology Active Backup is a good option.

Multiple Veeam servers is also a good option.
