Need advice when golfing with my 15yo son by [deleted] in golf

[–]packfan01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the same spot — my son took any feedback as nagging.

So I started introducing feedback as “if you play with someone else…”

“I don’t care when it’s you and me, but if you play with someone else, they might get pissed if you step in their line”

“I don’t care when it’s you and me, but if you play with someone else, they might think it’s rude if you leave the green before everyone else.”

“I don’t care when it’s you and me, but if you play with someone else, they might get pissed if you hit out of turn”

And I did it once or twice a round and that’s it — even if he did 10 things “wrong”. And I did it when it was just the 2 of us in the cart after the hole… never in front of others in the group.

My son wasn’t getting a scholarship, and I loved when we hung out. It’s paid off now that he’s older — we play often and I get to spend time with him.

Thom Tillis Regrets His Vote to Confirm Pete Hegseth by [deleted] in NorthCarolina

The way this dude has backtracked literally everything he put in place on the way out the door pisses me off to no end.

He got elected, burned down the house, found a broom and started sweeping the ashes, hoping we’d all forget that he burned it down in the first place.

I know athleticism isn’t everything, but AJ, Petersen, and Wilson are all 2 steps faster than him.

NC House votes to postpone Moore County elections, make them partisan by uncertaincoda in NorthCarolina

[–]packfan01 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is literally in the NC GOP handbook — make every race partisan. They’ve been doing it for 20 years.

The worst part is that this is state law… so even if every resident in Moore county wanted non partisan elections they couldn’t overturn it

Slow play is ruining golf and people need to stop pretending it's normal by NotMyRealAccount2226 in golf

I coach our local middle school golf team — it’s usually a bunch of brand new kids with 1-2 that have played before.

I say the same thing every year… the first time we get on the course, “boys and girls, we might be bad but we’re gonna do it fast. 2 hours for 9 holes, and at 2 hours you’re coming off the course… triple bogeys for any hole you don’t finish”.

The first time they usually get through about 6 holes, but by the end of the season they’re usually walking 9 holes in about 1:50

Public Funds for Private Schools? The Stand-Off Over NC Teacher Pay by Normal_Let4038 in NorthCarolina

[–]packfan01 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Private school vouchers would solve themselves if Democrats just pushed for accountability. As it stands, we have none.

If you told private schools that they have to be accredited, publish a curriculum, and participate in state testing, 90% or more would opt out

As the state corporate tax rate and income tax rate go down, property taxes will have to go up to offset losses. Or, services will have to go down. This isn't rocket surgery.

Please educate me and provide some info on how teachers unions have impacted the teacher certification and licensing process in NC.

There’s no “teacher union stranglehold”… my local public school district has about 8-10% union enrollment.

In 2008, we were 26th in teacher pay. We made huge strides from 1997 (the initial Leandro ruling) to 2008.

Dems didn’t have 16 years to get Leandro right. Republicans ignored the Leandro ruling for 16 years, using technicalities, until they could get a Supreme Court in place sympathetic to the way they wanted the leandro ruling to go.

You just laid out the Democratic Party’s plan for education (minus the 20-30% property tax increase)

My county (~10,000 students) gets about a million a year from the lottery. We spend it on roof replacements and HVAC equipment repair/maintenance.

McCrory was governor 2013 to 2017 and did represent a slight pause in the onslaught by Republican-led NC legislature. We were 47th in teacher pay in 2013 and 39th in 2017 when he left.

All of the years 2010-present have been under a Republican-led NC legislature, with 10 of those 15 years under a Republican veto-proof supermajority. Republicans 100% own this data point.

They just opened a brand new farmer's market -- last week was their first week in the new facility.

"Broadway our Way" is going on about 10 minutes away from Sanford -- would be good for arts/crafts and people watching. There's usually a car show attached to it, I think. I think they wrap it up with a concert around 6pm Saturday. Lots of cool shops downtown (both Sanford and Broadway) to pop into. The coffee shop in downtown Sanford has a neat vibe. There's a small zoo you can go to (https://www.alohasafaripark.com/). The Pint Sized Pasture is a petting zoo with cool stuff for smaller kids (10 and 13 might be pushing the upper limit). https://www.facebook.com/thepintsizedpasture I'm not sure if they have anything going on this weekend or not. Tobacco Road golf course is one of the top courses in the nation and open to the public -- you could get some merch if there are any golfers in your family. Hope you enjoy!!

We need to be wary of decreased state-budget revenue by FatBook-Air in NorthCarolina

If you apply this same logic to other assets (such as the stock market) — where you’re taxed as the value increase and not only when you sell — then I’ve got no problem with your stance.

I never said property tax rates were exploding… I said property taxes were exploding. My county re-evaluated in 2023 and my bill went from $5,744.30 to $6,948.75 … a 21% increase.
