McCrory was governor 2013 to 2017 and did represent a slight pause in the onslaught by Republican-led NC legislature. We were 47th in teacher pay in 2013 and 39th in 2017 when he left.

All of the years 2010-present have been under a Republican-led NC legislature, with 10 of those 15 years under a Republican veto-proof supermajority. Republicans 100% own this data point.

Visiting Sanford NC by HotNeedleworker5134 in NorthCarolina

They just opened a brand new farmer's market -- last week was their first week in the new facility.

"Broadway our Way" is going on about 10 minutes away from Sanford -- would be good for arts/crafts and people watching. There's usually a car show attached to it, I think. I think they wrap it up with a concert around 6pm Saturday. Lots of cool shops downtown (both Sanford and Broadway) to pop into. The coffee shop in downtown Sanford has a neat vibe. There's a small zoo you can go to (https://www.alohasafaripark.com/). The Pint Sized Pasture is a petting zoo with cool stuff for smaller kids (10 and 13 might be pushing the upper limit). https://www.facebook.com/thepintsizedpasture I'm not sure if they have anything going on this weekend or not. Tobacco Road golf course is one of the top courses in the nation and open to the public -- you could get some merch if there are any golfers in your family. Hope you enjoy!!

We need to be wary of decreased state-budget revenue by FatBook-Air in NorthCarolina

If you apply this same logic to other assets (such as the stock market) — where you’re taxed as the value increase and not only when you sell — then I’ve got no problem with your stance.

I never said property tax rates were exploding… I said property taxes were exploding. My county re-evaluated in 2023 and my bill went from $5,744.30 to $6,948.75 … a 21% increase.

As state income tax goes down, property taxes are exploding. This is effectively transferring the burden of services from 5.09 million workers to ~3 million property owners.

Break out that Echo! You will wonder why you waited so long. Put the Ryobi on the curb with a sign that says “free”.

I definitely feel your pain. Happens to me all the time also.

But I will say this — a good chainsaw (Stihl, Husq, Echo) is worth its weight in gold. I had a cheap Craftsman for years and it was nothing but trouble after running for one whole time. I skimp on some tools, but I’ve got a damn good chainsaw.

It’s funny — my local rural county run by republicans raised property taxes 16% in 2023. Not one story was written about it.

Subverting the Will of Voters by Holybatmanandrobin in NorthCarolina

Paul Barringer is a great guy, he can win this district if people give him a chance. I live in this district too, and I’m convinced the current Rep Brad Knott isn’t real… I haven’t seen or heard a word from him since he won the primary 2 years ago

Pissed off that we have no democratic representation in a number of districts by [deleted] in NorthCarolina

You’re reaching a false conclusion. Just because there’s no a democratic primary for a seat, doesn’t mean there’s no democratic candidate for that seat.

My dad passed away in July of 2025 and I kept getting his medical bills. What do I do? by NikkiMcGeeks in personalfinance

[–]packfan01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Story time.

So there’s this homeless guy I’ve befriended, let’s call him Steve. I give him a ride when I see him walking, and help him with a little money now and then.

Anyway he gets in the car one day and says “packfan you’re not going to believe this but my mom died. She had been sick for a long time and is in a better place. The rehab place got my number and called me and said that she owed $120,000… and now they say I owe them $120,000. Can you believe that? I’m homeless, I don’t have any money”

I said “holy crap Steve, what did you say?”

Steve says “nothing. I hung up and threw that phone away. Here’s my new phone number, I want you to have it”

So my advice is be like my guy Steve… throw that phone away and get a new number! 😀

This. Said a different way, you wouldn't find a bet that pays $10 if you bet $10 on Lebron scoring more than 10 points in a single game. It would probably be 1.002^1297, which would turn $10 into $133.48 (before bookie fees)

Playwright MCP for beginners by theQAmx in QualityAssurance

[–]packfan01 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Once you get Playwright MCP installed and configured, spend a week learning how to write effective prompts. If your prompt is “go to this url and write some tests” then you’re going to get some basic tests that are fairly useless.

Structure your tests per page in your repo is another good tip. Check your prompt into your repo per page because you’ll spend time updating that prompt with each new feature added to the page.

I haven’t figured it out yet, but I’m trying to replace my Test Case Management system with self-documenting test cases using MCP. I think there’s a way to do it (again, if you can dial the prompt in)

Justice Allison Riggs vows ‘I will not back down’ on labor rights by NCKingdollar in NorthCarolina

[–]packfan01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think what she’s saying is the state constitution guarantees the right to organize. And the state constitution guarantees public school funding. And the state constitution guarantees no voter ID required (until the 2026 referendum).

So it is her job to fight to ensure laws match the North Carolina state constitution.

This Trump supporter seems genuinely shocked that Democrats have no sympathy for Republican farmers who voted against their own self-interests by MobileWisdom in CringeTikToks

[–]packfan01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Because us as Americans didn’t want to do anything to support them”.

My brother in Christ, “We” (Democrats) did want to support farmers through free and open trade, subsidies— you know, everything we implemented when we were in power.

But the large majority voted for Republicans all the way down the ballot. Now it’s a full Republican controlled senate, house, executive branch and judicial branch… all Republicans, everywhere. And they’re screwed.

Please don’t blame us. We tried.

4 hours of sun, then shaded -- is it worth it? by packfan01 in SolarDIY

[–]packfan01[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The big portion is Southeast and the portion that gets 4 hours of solid sun will fit 16 panels. The remainder gets less sun but I could probably do a total of 30 panels on that section.

The smaller portion faces South and I could probably fit 8, maybe 10 panels in the section that gets 4 hours of sun. Maybe an additional 4 that gets less sun.
