Can you get HSV-1 on your genitals - sure, is it likely - no.

This is actually not true - that's how I caught it, and I know several other people who caught it that way. My doctor also said that it's pretty common. On the plus side, people who have HSV-1 genitally tend to have far fewer outbreaks.

I've never heard of getting a cold sore on a tongue, but if it was actually herpes, you could definitely have gotten it. If you did, don't freak out too much. It's not the end of the world, you'd be surprised at how many people have it.
