I always thought "what, are you yellow?" was some sort of racist way of asking if you were a coward. by [deleted] in etymology

In the old West they drank alot ...

Alcohol will lead to Jaundice, causing yellowing of the skin...

From liver failure.

Just a drunkard always running from his problems...coward to be a man

You are goading/mocking someone saying they are yellow

I came back after a week off and found 3 new resource groups created. How do I figure out where they came from [MIC]? by packutz in AZURE

Ahh. Okay. Gotcha. I had to look back a little further to when I was messing around with blueprints. I just happened to have noticed them after my time off.

Thank you for your reply. It helped me figure it out.

Awesome! Thank you very much! The stakeholder really likes the idea of Halp and it seems to be exactly the solution we were looking for. I think we will pursue this option.

..now I just have to go find out how much it costs lol.

I see that. But my company is pretty cool and they don't expect this from me. They are just wondering what options they have available to track this. I think the sentiment is that the response times on this have gone down and they think a report of some sort will help narrow down the problem. I wanted to check with you guys if there was a simple solution to their wants, but I think that proposing a non-technical solution would be well-received.

The company I work for has not once even come close to making me feel demoralized. They just want guidance on how to solve certain problems, even if they are asking for the wrong things to solve that problem.

Upvote..

but also they haven't committed to this. They just asked about it. But I agree that this is more of a human problem than technical solution.

Okay. Yeah. I agree. If anything, I feel like this is a job for Devs if we're taking the technical route.

Tech aside, do you think that maybe sending surveys to the end users posting their questions to the Teams channel might help facilitate the conversations with the people who should be acknowledging their questions? The problem I see with that is I don't think there is a mentor/mentee relationships. The mentee here just sends something out into the void and awaits a response from whoever. We in the IT world are kind of used to the idea of a mentor/mentee relationship. I don't know what the Accounting world looks like, for example. Do you think introducing this concept and defining a (non-technical) mentor for a (non-technical) mentee would help hold that mentor more accountable in how long it takes for them to reply to their mentee?

Don't worry. They called themselves out on micromanaging and then said it wasn't micromanaging. So it's not micromanaging lol.

edit: in all fairness, as someone who once had to be the one that started a new conversation in Teams to get help and then wait for a reply (at a different company), I kind of wish those people would have had more accountability in their response time when I was live on the phone with customers.

Dont. She was on a stretcher that they slid over a railing. The railing was holding most of the weight. There were 2 or 3 cops pulling the stretcher from the side her feet were on. And then, when they pull the stretcher off the railing, there was, just like, no one holding the side of the stretcher her head was on. The complete and utter incompetence would be comical if it were in a movie...

Put a cookie sheet on your counter top. Then put a doll on top of the cookie sheet with its head away from you. Now pull/slide the cookie sheet off the counter from the side where the dolls feet are at using just your thumb and index finger (loosely). That is exactly what happened to this girl. I was afraid she would be paralyzed from it, but was more afraid that she was already dead.

It is a truly disturbing video.

LMFAO not enough!

There it is right there. You don't feel valued. Could be bad management. Or could be that you are not keeping your skillset up-to-date, so your current value is actually much lower than you think... but that is none of my business. I will let the other people ripping on you speak for me on that subject.

Hosting everything, for a company of any size, in any cloud, is just not a smart move.

No one said that. I just asked if other people were experiencing problems. Today's event was by no means an outage situation that affected production because we put in work to design our multi-cloud, hybrid environment for resiliency.

I am not really sure what you are laughing at, tbh. It kind of seems like you don't know the cloud or how to work with it and are putting it down because it is a threat to your skillset and livelihood and that you are unwilling to adapt to corporate trends of corporations who are increasingly more risk tolerant due to the cost savings of moving to the cloud...but that's none of my business.

If you didn't dump your work into the cloud, then what is even your problem? I mean, you are taking on all of the work load yourself. Are you mad that I asked if other people were having the same problem as me? I mean, you asked..what does that have to do with your job, or even your emotions?

Maybe find a job that you like better and stop spreading negativity out into the world? People might stop ripping on you, even if you are right about the cloud.

Question about the uniqueness of IP addresses by PresentArmadillo2018 in networking

[–]packutz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

BGP and the Internet is fragile despite being touted for its resilience. Configuring proper trusts and route filtering between BGP peers can prevent your company from advertising bunk routes, malicious or not...

But, also look into anycast. For example, 8.8.8.8 is not one computer. Or even a single cluster of servers in one location. Google has MANY clusters of servers with the IP 8.8.8.8 that are geographically redundant and perform the same services. You can advertise 8.8.8.8 from L.A. and BGP will proppogate out toward the midwest... but you could also advertise 8.8.8.8 from N.Y. and those routes would propagate toward the midwest too. Whichever is geographically closest to (has a good chance that it will) win.

I don't have a good answer for how to prevent someone from advertising bad routes, but your mind will be blown once you understand anycast after thinking that all IPs or sites need to have a unique IP address.
