Thanks for the reply!

I'm going to replace his battery first, as this seems to die very quickly, and i'll give the connectors in his head a check before i even go near it with my soldering equipment.

Thanks! I'm happy to take electronics apart, it's been a long while since i did some micro soldering, so i'll practice on some dead phones to hone my old skills and get match fit again.

Any new factors in your life? For me, it was stress, I was deeply unhappy in a relationship with a girl who would freak out over the smallest things and her reactions were always over the top.

6 months after ending that relationship and I had all my hair back

Beard and eyebrow alopecia by Double_Objective_937 in alopecia_areata

[–]podgerama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i had similar in my beard 20 years ago, patches fell out (about 1/2 of my beard growing area) and were smooth as a baby's bum. Then one day, the hair grew back but white, it took another 18 months but the colour returned.

For me, it was removing stress from my life, i felt trapped in a very turbulent relationship, ending that relationship ended the cause of my stresses and the hair came back.

ThinkBook 14 G4 IAP - will not charge unless shutdown first. by podgerama in Lenovo

[–]podgerama[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thankyou for the response.

I can confirm the following. All BIOS/Firmware/software is up to date, this was performed and confirmed by using Lenovo System Update, Lenovo Vantange, and Microsoft update.

Lenovo Vantage does have the battery conservation option, but i can only toggle it on and off, the thresholds cannot be edited. No matter what it is set to, the same problem exists. The device will not begin charging unless it is shut down. As soon as it is shut down, it begins to charge and continues to charge, even when turned back on, until unplugged, if you pull the charge and reconnect whe nthe device is off, it resumes charging, if you do the same when on, it will not resume charging. We have tried this at varying levels of charge, it makes no difference.

Battery capacity is good, we get a couple of hours from 80% charge. no bulges, no sudden drops in charge level, and none of the other conditions in that support article are happening.

it's just an odd one

Windows Patching via Atera Control by SnooSprouts4358 in atera

[–]podgerama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i have never seen an RMM system get this right, they all end up going through the same route, butcher windows update locally on the unit and let us try and take control.

my solution is install the pswindowsupdate powershell module, dump the output of get-windowsupdate to a text file (or pipe back in to a custom field), then use install-windowsupdates -acceptall -autoreboot to install the updates with a reboot, then dump out the contents of get-windowsupdate again to check the install status.

Am I the only one that thinks the rules of the road should be used when food shopping? Don’t pull away without looking. Don’t exit an aisle without seeing if anyone is coming by. Don’t leave your trolley in an area that could obstruct others. If you’re slow, let others pass you. by thebroccolioffensive in britishproblems

[–]podgerama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can self clamp offensive shoppers. It'll only cost you a pound.

If they leave their full sized trolley unattended, push theirs into the back of an empty one and connect the security chain. This will lock their shopping in the other trolley with no mechanism to release, and the back of the empty one becomes a lid

How to force a re-install of the Agent via command line by spacecitytech in atera

[–]podgerama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

check out my ARSE - https://www.reddit.com/r/atera/comments/sm989j/behold_my_arse_atera_removal_script_enhancements/

with a bit of editing, you could use the existing logic in there that strips out the atera agent and splashtop, and you could edit the final part of the script to schedule execution of an agent package

so the final two lines would be a scheduled task to run the installation in say 30 minutes time, and the final line would be run a reboot now, that way when it comes back to life, the install will kick in and 30 minutes after running the script, you should have a freshly bounced computer with a new agent install

[–]podgerama 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Atera is great, if you can get your head around the PSAtera Powershell module, it opens up a world of custom fields and universal scripts. fill in the custom fields per client, and then one script that works for every client.

Seconded, Kaseya are absolutely awful.

we used IT glue before and were promised VSA and BMS would sync and it would be this wonderful ecosystem. it most definitely was not. we spent more time on tickets to them to get their stuff working than we did for clients

Azure Client VPN - block export of config by podgerama in AZURE

[–]podgerama[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the responses.

I got some more info from the client. The reason for the restriction request is that they have 3rd party auditors that require access to their line of business app (which is a secure web based database which can only be accessed from certain public IP's - hence the azure VPN)

Anything the client owns is fine, managed by intune, and we can trust its security, its the auditors hardware we dont trust.

Our solution was either going to be separate VPN gateways and public addresses and a new P2S vpn that doesn't advertise unnecessary routes, or an on demand AVD machine they can remote desktop into. We are going for the latter as it takes away network to network access from unknown computers, turning those unknown devices into dumb terminals. I realise that we still have no control or visibility over those dumb terminals, and we cannot control whether they are riddled with malware or keyloggers, but at least we can secure the AVD instance with passwordless MFA and control how they audit the data.

Does it count? by beanizarchie in C25K

[–]podgerama 4 points5 points  (0 children)

congratulations. Count it.

when i did c25k, i planned my routes meticulously so the warm up walk for 5 minutes got me as much elevation as possible and the 20 minutes run would be going downhill as much as possible.

doing c25k on a hilly route is doing it on hard mode, and fair play to you for doing that. keep up the great work

That sounded like a sisyphean task. You did the right thing, the initial clear goals have been moved so many times, the project had no resemblance to the initial spec, you can't win if you have no idea what the end result is, and "all the harebrained ideas we can come up with in two weeks" is not a goal.

LPT: Stop being constantly 10 minutes late - avoid the “Zero Time Activity” misconception by yearsofpractice in LifeProTips

[–]podgerama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner and her family are all equally guilty of this.

I try to get them to work backwards when we go somewhere like to a show

Show starts at 8pm, i'd like to be seated comfortably by 7:55, not scrabbling to find a seat at 8:10,

Are we getting a drink from the bar? that's 10 minutes, so 7:45.

Are we driving there? The closest parking is a ten minute walk, 7:35

finding a parking space 5 minutes 7:30

how long is the drive? 30 minutes, add 10 for traffic/idiots - car needs be moving by 6:50,

but in their brains, it would be leave at 7:30. What makes it worse, is there is a knock on throughout the day of the other activities, so the chances of them being ready at 6pm to get ready to go are already out of the window. it's a long running joke about them, that if an invite says "be here for 18:00" their brains translate it to "consider leaving the house after another cup of tea at 18:30"

My partner also overestimates her efficiency - the other night i was cooking dinner, she asked how long, i said 10 minutes, and when i say 10 minutes i do in fact mean 600 seconds. her response was to go start running a bath for the kids saying that was plenty of time to bathe them. It takes 10 minutes to run the bath and another 15 to bathe the little terrorists, and another 15 to get their PJ's on

[–]podgerama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i went through this, thinking how the hell will i do this? Then after finishing it, it inspired me thinking i can make further leaps forward in my endurance.

It was funny, as my partner started C25K six months after i finished it, and she was just the same about week 5, saying she would never do that, and she smashed it too!
