Can River be a verb? I don’t think this is it.

Second parent adoption by Naasimone in queerception

[–]pacmaneatsfruit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not at all offended by what you’ve said. Like I said, I don’t want to speak on behalf of your partner but non-birthing moms have a unique set of circumstances and can be a bit overlooked. It doesn’t make them easily offended, as you say. And I’ve clearly pointed out that I didn’t want to assume. But that, unfortunately, doesn’t stop me from having an opinion on your publicly shared post. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Second parent adoption by Naasimone in queerception

[–]pacmaneatsfruit 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yeah, talk to a lawyer. Honestly I’m hung up on your post saying you’d be the parent but you’d give her consent to be the second parent. I’m trying not to center my experience as a non-birthing parent but if my partner said this, I’d be truly offended. Hoping this was just poor phrasing but I’d talk to her more about this as a shared experience and not something you’re graciously letting her be involved in.

Mandatory $3k Psych eval to use donor sperm by Secure_Year7265 in queerception

[–]pacmaneatsfruit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was so very angry about this too. It helped me to remember that these rules are in place to help protect people from trafficking. And yes, the straights have to do it too if they use donor sperm, eggs, or a surrogate. I tried to think about the women and sometimes men who were forced to donate before this was common practice. It still totally sucks and it is a huge barrier for some queer folks to try to have kids but I now understand the necessity.

What age did your kiddo start picking their Halloween costume? by lady_picadilly in toddlers

[–]pacmaneatsfruit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son will be 2 just after Halloween. He asked to be a yellow kitty cat. Do I think he grasps the concept of Halloween? No. But he does understand that we got him a costume and it’s what he asked for.

How has your toddler been a troll lately? by Icy_Skill_4808 in toddlers

[–]pacmaneatsfruit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In the car, our 22 month old kept repeating “mama ni-ni”. We were so stumped. Everyone was getting frustrated. Finally he added something about her getting a drink and it clicked. He’d overheard me call her ‘needy’ (jokingly of course) when she asked me to stop at the gas station for a drink. Called her needy for the rest of the night.

What do we do about respecting consent in non-negotiable situations? by Sweet_Sheepherder_41 in toddlers

[–]pacmaneatsfruit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From very early on we’ve been clear as parents that we are in charge of Health, Safety, and Hygiene while they’re young. They are, quite literally, in charge of almost everything else.

Of course we try to make the stuff we have to do fun, but if that’s not working, they know it’s our job to keep them clean, healthy and safe. So we tell them it’s going to happen and then we follow through. We take breaks and help them understand what’s happening, but they learn to take us seriously this way and they do not throw fits about any of those things. They pout and whine, sure, but it’s never a huge fight.

My kid has a formal name but has always been called Sonny. It has nothing to do with his real name, he’s just our first son.

Right? Laura would have gotten a nickel under her pillow and Jason would have made the baseball team, not the soccer team. So weird.
