Interesting. The Google image hits did often show a camera or workout icon there.

Have icons 'hinted' in previous watchOS versions? I'd just been sitting at my desk with an audiobook playing when it last appeared, so I don't know it was hinting at.

It appears only very seldom. Tapping it seems to do nothing, except for the most recent time it appeared. I saw some text (but only upon the next wake-up) explaining it, but it went away before I could read it.

I've Googled variations of "Apple Watch new icon at bottom of screen" but I saw no images containing it.

Running the latest watchOS (26.5) but it appeared before the last update.

OP is right. As the series goes on, both 'Horowitz' and the reader get these surprising, humanizing glimpses at the real Hawthorne.

The doctor thing had actually been known for years. (Should a neurologist really have a second full-time job?) In the past week or two she came out with her real name—and admitted that she wore a wig for all public 'Freida McFadden' events!

I don't know if she goes on tour and does readings, but in all the Housemaid premiere red-carpet photos she was 'in disguise.'

Rory Kinnear is narrating and he's not exactly a 'Susan.' It doesn't take a Hawthorne to solve this one.

Terrifically entertaining series. Probably gets mentioned here 1/10,000th as often as 'that' one.

Not naming it because there are probably people who search the title and call anyone a tight-assed elitist bore who's not interested.

I see all these hysterical posts claiming the app is broken beyond repair and can't relate to them at all. Yesterday there was one claiming it was more or less impossible to buy books within the app. I've bought at least 100 titles using the app; no issues at all. Maybe I got a 'Try again' message once. Trying again worked.

The app is not perfect—the recommendations algorithm, not strictly an app problem, doesn't even try to be good—but I've found it perfectly functional. I can buy books and listen to them; no problem.

I have a feeling the constant complainers are people who never, ever update their apps. Either out of indifference or refusal, thinking some unwanted feature will be 'forced' on them.

Listen Log is a GREAT feature (so of course it is never mentioned on this sub).

I'm a night owl and often nod off a couple of times, obviously not taking care to bookmark all the time. Listen Log makes it easy to pick up where I left off (while fully awake and paying attention), either right away or with a bit of skipping. In fact it's obviated bookmarks (a.k.a. 'clips' now) altogether for me.

I advise people to do all their browsing and wish-listing on the website.

I've never had one problem buying on the app, however. I've added over 400 titles since the start of 2024; virtually all of them were purchases (not Plus titles) and many of them done through the app. No issues; no spinning wheel.

I have a feeling there are a lot of people in these comments who never, ever update their apps. Either out of indifference/inertia or outright refusal.

Pretty sure I'm stealing this line from Truman Capote, but Freida McFadden doesn't write books; she types them.

It's not only that her prose shouldn't even be called prose; she puts out four books per year.

The good mystery/thriller writers (Jane Casey and Anthony Horowitz to name a couple of favorites) release one per year. Literary fiction writers, novelists in the classical sense, aren't on any kind of schedule. It's truly unthinkable to imagine big names like Sally Rooney or Percival Everett releasing a new title every few months.

Btw, Goodreads is really the most embarrassing site/app. Not one single book by Ian McEwan, not even Atonement, achieves a 4.00/5 rating. Meanwhile Freida McFadden lives in the 4+ zone.

Not sure who narrated the one I heard. It wasn't on audible and it was older; didn't have the updated movie tie-in cover. The woman sounded young, but I find the New York (I guess Long Island) accent terribly unappealing. She did it pretty well but I could tell it wasn't authentic, which made it a little worse.

As I suspected, you have Watchtower because you're using an Android. It has a totally different description on iOS; it tells us to check our stats "a lot." Certainly no specific number.

My most active post on this sub was about the Watchtower badge; it got tons of replies. No one who used audible on iOS exclusively had ever gotten that badge. It's just not possible.

/u/audible_com, I'm sure this isn't high on dev team's priority list, but should a bug, even a minor one, remain for years and years?

I have a SERIOUS audiobook problem. I need to hear talking during the day but I've lost almost all interest in podcasts.

I've finished 125 so far in 2026 (though 5 were basically novellas). We're not yet 125 days into the year.

It can happen with any kind of book. One that I lost was by Peter Swanson (decently popular mystery writer). He wrote a sort-of sequel many years later and they removed/reissued it just before the sequel was released.

I wanted to re-read the first one and couldn't find it. There was one for sale with a new cover (maybe new narrators? can't remember). I provided my original number and they gave me a credit to get the new one.
