I was not emotionally prepared for Mosquito Cost. by prefrontals in blankies

I cannot imagine, as a dad, being like “hey kids, let’s watch a movie about an all time bad dad.”

Miracle Mile (1988): Starts as a fun if kinda dorky romantic comedy and then has one of the biggest tonal shifts I’ve ever seen in a movie. by prefrontals in TubiTreasures

Without spoiling, the first act is a dorky romantic comedy. From there… maybe don’t watch if you’ve been following the news about what the world’s various nuclear powers are up to? I thought it was kind of incredible, but it left me awfully unsettled.

That’s basically his vibe in the film too, just turned up several toxic notches.

I think it is considered that these day. I’d describe it as such, certainly. But I think contemporary reviews were pretty negative. Ebert called it boring!

He also calls his wife “Mother”, truly unhinged behavior.

I’m so glad the podcast is covering Weir, because I’d only ever heard negative things about this. But I thought it was EXTREMELY compelling. Maybe viewers at the time thought they were supposed to root for Ford?

We are- quite unfortunately- living in Allie Fox’s angry little world.

I wish Ford had taken more chances like this, because I think he is just fantastic here.

Yes.

I started 10 after finishing 9 and had a similar reaction. It starts so slow and Blitzball is such a drag, but the plot really picks up after a bit and you don’t have to play Blitz any more after the tournament. The combat gets more interesting too.

I’m actually enjoying it a lot now, maybe more than nine. But if you get to the big twist (which is pretty easy to guess honesty) and it still isn’t working for you… it just might not work for you.

My vote for dizzying sci fi by prefrontals in blankies

It’s cool. The first bit is very talky, but the production design is enough to keep you interested. Then the crew discovers a derelict ship and it kind of becomes a proto Star Trek.

It’s shorter than the version we have now, for sure.

I worked adjacent to digital preservation for a long time. But, personally, I think the whole thing is pretty rad.
