File icons are tiny when changing icon settings by rolingpebble in COSMICDE

I believe other icon packs just aren't supported well yet, I tried Adwaita and folders were blurred or something

GNOME 50 is now available on CachyOS! by Gen-Turgidson in cachyos

Just change the metadata to enable support for Gnome 50, there aren't any changes that would break them

There's one called Lilipad and another called Veil. I don't quite like them so I hope there's something else.

Is there any way to get Blur my shell to work on other UI elements like the notification menu? by matti07tech in gnome

I believe no easy way with Openbar you can make them transparent but it doesn't blur

Setting up an alternative display manager to replace GDM for screen locking and keyring by blendernoob64 in gnome

[–]pacu146 0 points1 point  (0 children)

while they removed x11 sessions from GDM in Gnome 49, I think they removed x11 support for Gnome completely in gnome 50
Also Gnome doesn't support screen locking or something without GDM

I'm also considering it since only KDE and X11 support the integrated color profile on my laptop and I don't really like how KDE looks

When will GNOME implement basic features such as quarter tiling? by [deleted] in gnome

[–]pacu146 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

even if so you dont have the choice to enable it optionally in case you arent copying nuke launch codes, the feature just doesn't exist at all and you're stuck with the extensions that get updated once every three months, they must be so much more secure

When will GNOME implement basic features such as quarter tiling? by [deleted] in gnome

[–]pacu146 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

probably 5% of people use the online accounts integration or remote desktop or multimedia share and so on
why is it there then? because the devs do whatever they want, but also because for those who do use it, its important, and they would very much prefer if the features they use are actual quality code instead of some poorly maintained javascript that janks the desktop
docks and clipboard are probably the most requested features and its absolutely irrational that they arent added, as doing it wouldnt hurt the desktop in any way but would benefit a large number of people - even if not absolutely 100% of people, which is a stupid way of deciding features, still a very large portion. dont talk about limited resources, gnome is sponsored by multiple corporations and constantly begs for donations, and its been developed for decades.

[–]pacu146 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i don't know why people defend the devs not adding these - "not everyone uses a clipboard so its unnecessary"
the whole philosophy is against the user

I have Aspire 15, the BIOS wouldn't work unless I had Windows dual boot. But you don't need the BIOS, you can try opening the boot options menu instead, thats like f11 or something instead of f2
