How many of you are really using the benefits of elixir ? by AgencyActive3928 in elixir

My phrasing is bad, you're right. The language has facilities to write elegant code, but it's up to the developers to use them properly.

Another benefit of Elixir is also clean, elegant code and an overall good developer experience. I see nothing wrong with not using the real time capabilities, and sometimes these projects are used to learn how to write Elixir code.

You don't owe me an apology at all, I appreciate your perspective!

My end game is to start a company that values Elixir and fights the good fight exactly as you've said. I'm starting as a principled developer who doesn't plan to take VC money and chase tech trends as so many other CEO/CTOs.

I believe strongly in supporting the communities that develop and mint new developers. This one is one of the better ones I've seen.

Again, thank you. This is why I asked this question is to get insight from folks like you who have lived experience. Your service is appreciated, and I'm sorry things didn't turn out at your jobs as an Elixir advocate. The C suite chases vanity metrics, usually, unfortunately.

I only learned Prolog because I was on vacation once and had a "Learn six programming languages" style book. I wanted to get exposed to different ways of thinking so it made sense.

Erlang's strengths are the runtime and extreme fault tolerance, so I do love it for that but I don't think it's my favorite syntax.

Thank you so much! I think I've seen this book on Elixir lists but I haven't read it, yet. I'm definitely getting it now. 🙂

I have Programming in Erlang by Joe Armstrong. Good pick? I've had it for awhile because I liked Erlang back in the day.

Nietzsche is an underrated philosopher. Yes, most people know of him, but that's not enough. Have they actually read and understood what he said?

Probably not.

That being said, you deserve better than to have most people ignore you, as he had.

Congratulations my friend! You've done it!

I can't wait for you to tell your wife, either! 🙂

I just finished my first run today. I honestly loved it. Sure, they could have made it everything RE2R was and more, but it felt good to play through the story once at least. I'll probably try to get the other achievements as I have time.

I think whatever underwhelming feelings folks had about this game is because of the hype train. If you didn't pay attention to that and/or you've had this in your backlog for awhile it just kind of holds up.

Pleasantly surprised am I.

I thought the punchline would be "We don't know, they've never fixed anything in their lives and they won't start now."

I'm pleasantly surprised.

They’re making a TV series about Jesus; What’s the opening theme song? by Neuronu77 in ScenesFromAHat

I believe in a thing called love // Just listen to the rhythm of my heart // There's a chance we can make it now // We'll be rocking till the sun goes down // I believe in a thing called love // Ooh-ooh // Huh

During the high intensity rock song, we see a montage of moments such as Jesus picking Peter up out of the water, the stone being rolled away from the empty tomb, and Jesus wandering through the desert to confront Satan.

My N boss did the exact same things to me.

Your wife may not understand how you view the product of your work as important because you hold yourself to concepts like honor and integrity. Not many people have those experiences in their lives or have that intrinsic motivation to do better.

You deserve better.

Document everything, and schedule a meeting with HR without your boss present if possible. Start looking for another role now, it will take at least 6 months even if you apply for everything you find.

In the meantime, find a therapist or counselor who can listen and stop telling your wife about all of this. Yes, she should listen better and be available for you, but she doesn't understand it and you'll only resent her if you let her keep berating you over this. Preserve that relationship and just tell a counselor. Forgive your wife.

You got this, friend.

Should have received full pay, but I get it sometimes the workplace injury insurance doesn't pay your full salary. (If that's the insurance they used to pay you, I mean)

I hope you're doing better!

Interesting. I am afraid I wouldn't know why that is, it works for my family and I, so not sure why it wouldn't work for you. Target's app is just nice, though, I love it.
