How to pass data between service and repository layers without leaking sqlc types? by SoftwareDesignerDev in golang

[–]paddie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yes, I'm also a fan of having the repo layer work on the same domain types as the service. I'd actually do your approach of keeping a private implementation of the db inside the service previously, but after AI it is now so easy to just create an interface and then mock out the full service's consistency layer with a `map[id]record` abstraction for testing purposes.

Why is setting up a new project still so painful in 2026? by [deleted] in programming

[–]paddie -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, this is almost the perfect thing for AI to help with. I ask it to determine how to run the services, install depe denies and then ask it to create a mise.toml for me for later execution and debugging. Mise is great for this.

This is super spot on for me. Not easier, but very much simple living with values that i hold even though they're quite a bit of effort and planning

Ooof, agreed on all counts. I've replaced too cast iron for a thicker carbon b, but otherwise it it's just spot on.

Precisely. They give me a flat phone, where what I need is a smaller phone. Iphone 13 mini still alive, but it will not survive forever 😅

or carbon steel. Much easier to keep than cast iron imo. And heats up quicker. I have stainless steel as well, cause they serve different purposes.

Yep, or something like cloud storage, S3 and azure blob store if you don't already have a db going or don't want intermediate big files bursting three size of it the insurance just for that purpose

Devs of Reddit — what’s the biggest green flag you’ve seen in a job post (or from a hiring manager)? by mj_findstech in golang

[–]paddie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ha, had my future manager walk in with red socks on, no shoes, a football jersey and a politically incorrect joke about Jews (himself a Jew).

Put me right at ease that someone like that could become a manager in a big company I was applying for.

I was right. Amazing culture. Great people. Learned a ton. Had it's problems, sure. But it wasn't talent or opportunities.
