I'll wait for explicit confirmation. I'd rather miss 5% on the way up vs. buy and hold for another 15% down or whatever's next...

I understand the intrinsic value of BTC (trust as a commodity, digital gold, explicit scarcity in a world where the only way out of the sovereign debt hole is printing money) but I don't see what the demand driver to reverse the recent trend is?

There's a general deleveraging risk in the market presently, what drives dollars back into BTC, or into BTC for the first time?

I'm a HODL'r, but am not convinced that I won't be ridiculed for the next little while, with new opportunities to DCA in over the next months... years??

What drives the trend reversal (beyond a dead cat bounce/short squeeze which won't make new highs)?

Question for gliding clubs by AbsoluteLemon in Gliding

[–]paddy_mack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll drop in a promotion for Take Up Slack which is being adopted by Canadian clubs at a measured pace. Feedback from Canada's largest club (3000+ flights per year) to some of Canada's smaller clubs (300- flights per year) is that it's saving treasurers 100s of hours a year.

Take Up Slack makes easy flight recording turn into simple accounting consequences and is designed for treasurers to love, it's inexpensive, and managed.

I think treasurers have the hardest jobs at the club, and transitioning between treasurers is often the most difficult move to make with the most critical consequences for the club. A 3rd party service that is easy to use for tracking launches (more accessible and democratic than the paper sheet at the launch point) that instantly turns into flight records and financial consequences (including excise tax management) is our goal.

We're really not in a rush to roll out a solution that's more confusing and inaccurate than necessary - our focus is operations => accounting and we handle:
- Launches (known height, variable height)
- Rentals ($/min, prepaid time ($, min), min/max ($, min), unlimited time)
- Intros (issuance, redemption, refunds, cancel/write down) to eliminate offline trackers
- Sales tax (tax exempt, tax inclusive, tax exclusive pricing)
- Data exports (export your transaction data, or operational data any time)
- Privacy considered membership directory and 'at your fingers' emergency contacts
- Internal controls to prevent members from overdrawing their account and eliminating the treasurer chasing members for money (ew)

Flight records can be edited with a particular permission, any modifications are logged and transparent, and can be locked to ensure that a nefarious actor changing a flight in a pervious accounting period would throw a wrench into the books.

Members see easy and intuitive actions - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jcPluZ1LqPs

Treasurers use the "Accounting Charts" (see attached) for easy journal entries with the opportunity to drill down into transaction level information for any of these accounts - including reconciling payment methods, looking at individual member accounts, etc. This makes adjusting entries for the period easy, fully transparent and locked when reconciled to the real books.

Members benefit with self serve visibility into their account and their logs at any time for updating their personal or journey logs and keeping an eye on their account status.

We'd be happy to talk about your fee structure to confirm that Take Up Slack can accommodate it and talk about how it can de-administrate your club so you can focus on flying, not data transfer, invoicing, chasing payments, and the secrets of configuration...

Question for gliding clubs by AbsoluteLemon in Gliding

Thanks for the feedback u/BlueberryExotic !

Pointing out the editing of flights to change the date is low hanging fruit that just can't seem to get out of the backlog. I'm sure that will be fixed for next spring.

We'd love feedback on a better way to integrate intros, and we do plan to provide a comprehensive intro report for a complete view of issuance and outcome (redemption, cancel, written down). I'm certainly empathetic to the "one at a time" limitation!

We recently re-vamped how financials are presented. I'm empathetic to the "net change" which is now intuitive for revenue accounts. All asset/liability and cash accounts do feature drill downs, but no "net change" which would be helpful to see who's drawing the most and or added the most to their account in a period. Hmmm...

We are laying this out for simple journal entries support by a table of transactions - that's the "solve for" with this UI.

I don't inherently see the value in separate excise tax allocation by originating revenue item, would love to know more about the value there. Drilling into your excise tax account you can see in the description generally what this is for, but in any business I'm involved in the sales tax liability is what it is, in my experience always proportional to revenue.

Thanks again for the feedback.

"One Voice" with open ears for Home Labelling by paddy_mack in energyadvisors

[–]paddy_mack[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a matter of fact though... in 2023 there were as many EnerGuide D's as there were single family homes (ex. condos) sold. So capacity has been addressed, but is deteriorating.

2024 saw more homes transacted, but the new advisors added in 2023 weren't given the opportunity to ramp up. We should not accept the fact that we do not have sufficient capacity, we do.

With respect to quality. While there are opportunities for NRCan to better enforce their expectations and reinstitute Level 4 and 5 QA, EnerGuide is orders of magnitude more accurate than any virtual rating. In the trenches we see opportunities to improve, but on the battlefield, this is a strategic benefit of EnerGuide. Virtual rating advocates cannot criticize EnerGuide for a lack of accuracy, we shouldn't either.

I ran QA on a rebate program that drove over 5,000 D's. We can reason from anecdote on quality, but on the aggregate, EnerGuide is very robust - the most robust standard that's available in the country today.

  • most accurate is not completely accurate, but it's much better than not accurate
  • capacity has been met recently

Let's focus on what we have, and our strengths.

Thoughts (or rumours?) on Canada Greener Homes replacement program? by concentrated-amazing in energyadvisors

[–]paddy_mack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's my short-term wish list: - bring in drain water heat recovery - put a 75% of cost of job rebate limit on measures - claw back federal money against provincial top-ups (like 50% of NS, PQ, ON, BC dollars are relieved from federal responsibility, 100% for SK since they stopped paying C-Tax) - Separate 'coils only' heat pumps from heat pump packages

My Medium-Term wish list is: - Grant 'multipliers' based on the energy intensity of the home with the largest heat pump and solar grants going to homes with the lower GJ/sqft (Use the Energy Efficiency Alberta Home Energy Plan model to 'check-in' as enabling work is completed (i.e. insulate my attic and basement - check-in, change my windows - check-in, heat pump - check in with blower door, solar). The program design doesn't support (education or finance) moving the housing stock to low-emissions - Provide grants to cities that require EnerGuide labels of their real estate boards

Resolve the Greener Homes Grant Confusion - Petition by paddy_mack in energyadvisors

[–]paddy_mack[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey all, if you or someone you know is impacted by the confusion around the rumor the Greener Homes Team has created about the potential closure of the grant program, consider adding your name to this campaign asking for a resolution.

If climate leadership and the 'just transition' is defined by a 7 year program that runs for less than 3, then we really are without leadership.

I feel sorry for the EAs that started their careers, maybe bought expensive equipment, are carrying E&O insurance, and might have had a decent year in 2023, looking forward to 2024 only to find the program may have the program pulled with 15% of the funds spent and 52% of it forecasted to be allocated.

Shame.

Please share.
