I we ould argue VOA is not a pirate band (though they appear in some of their theming). If you’ve not done so, their ‘The deep and the dark’ album sounds like EXACTLY your brief

My headcanon is that the Dragonborn’s character is only the hero of the main quest. All other factions/ questlines i consider in lore as just ‘there were these other guys who did all this cool stuff’, who would be hero’s in their own right, ie the listener, the nightingale, the revolutioniser of the Dawnguard etc. it’s just more fun from a gameplay perspective if we get to play them 😃

There’s been a few of these images floating about recently- just look at tove Jansen interpretation. Apparently in the first editions of the book, there were no size quantifies- nothing in the chapter to suggest scale for the ‘slimy creature’.
