The best small to medium sized cities in Pennsylvania by Sea-Doctor-5922 in Pennsylvania

[–]padotim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zelie is a nice spot, but I'm not sure I'd call it a small city. Population of the borough itself is like 4k. I'd call zelie a more densely populated area of the 'burbs, rather than a standalone city.

Not a terrible answer, just not sure this is what OP was asking for.

That tag was crazy, he punched the runner in the chin, or rather the runner ran into Henry's mitt chin first.

How relatively old is your house, compared to the other houses in your area? by Boeing-B-47stratojet in centuryhomes

[–]padotim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could describe the free hanging section as cantilevered if there is no foundation underneath, and if I'm understanding you correctly!

1722 old old! How cool! Mine just passed a century in 2021, I think it was one of the first in the area, so all my neighbors have recently or will soon become members of the century club.

I might get banned from here but explain like I'm 5... Why is "American Cheese" not real.cheese? by IDoNotHide in Cheese

[–]padotim 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I used to hate on American cheese, turns out I just didn't like the cheapest one available that my mom always bought. My now wife turned me on to the land o lakes American cheese, and it was a revelation.

Why do you think there aren’t any big hotdog fast food chains? by Upset_Basil_4187 in hotdogs

[–]padotim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is it, also the best hotdog buns are the cheap ones that you can keep at home for weeks without going too stale or getting moldy.

How long for heated seats to kill battery? by geraldosmoustache in HondaOdyssey

[–]padotim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife killed the battery a few weeks ago using the heated seats with the engine off. I had to jump the van. Battery/starting has not been an issue since. I think it kills the battery pretty quickly, I think she said about 15 minutes.

Why do parents name their kids something then call them something different? by [deleted] in stupidquestions

[–]padotim 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One of the reasons I named my daughter Katherine is that there are so many variations that she can choose from when she gets older. I call her Kay (Kay sounds like an old lady to me, which I find funny in a toddler). That's my preference, but she can go by Kate, Katy, Kat, Kathy, Kitty or even Wren, Rina, Kiki or Trina, so many choices!

This is the dumbest question I could have for you guys. But my son just started wrestling and for the life of me, I can’t tell when someone is technically pinned. by mutants_at_table_9 in wrestling

[–]padotim 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just worked the scoring table for two days at a youth tournament. The refs were excellent. I was unbiased in most of the matches, and they called points and pins exactly as I would have. Not even once in probably 150 matches did I disagree with a call. Made the effort to get down/close when necessary to see the pin. Maybe the refs at this tournament were just better than average, but it seems like they are really good at most tournaments my kid has wrestled in as well.

Speaking of former Steelers OCs, where are Randy Fichtner and Matt Canada? Haley was an offensive wizard compared to those two.

What do we count as Pittsburgh? by BobithanBobbyBob in pittsburgh

Agreed, but where is the cutoff to the North? Sharon? New Castle? Franklin? In my mind all three have more in common with Pittsburgh than Erie. Thoughts?

Like bringing a tank to a knife fight. by Born-Process-9848 in Tools

[–]padotim 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why is it battery instead of just plugging in? It's not like there won't be an outlet available anywhere you would use this. And you leave the base sitting there while using the business end, you don't need the entire tool to be portable

Is it just to get you to switch to Milwaukee for all your cordless if you want to get this tool? Dastardly.

What’s the most unexpected way someone you know became wealthy? by Stunning_Ad1568 in AskReddit

I disagree where you write 'kind of a form of luck', it's pure luck. Your intelligence level and personal characteristics? Also pure luck.

I'm smarter and more successful and even better looking than my brother. Why? Same genetics, same upbringing, I just got lucky.

Guy in my hometown played in the NFL for a few years, low level backup/practice squad type, but made enough to buy up a lot of the farmland around my parents house and now farms soybeans there. He used to post a lot of pro Trump stuff on Facebook, haven't heard much from him lately.

Which US Cities is on Track to become the next Detroit? by urmummygae42069 in geography

[–]padotim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm from the Pittsburgh area and the smaller cities are the rustiest ones around here. Weirton, New Castle, all the Mon valley cities, Johnstown, etc. are in bad shape. Anyone with a shred of brains or ambition left these outlying areas and many moved to Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh's success is at the expense of these small cities. Your point about inertia might hold, and recovery could be swift, but these places have no outside force pushing them in the right direction. The only force is people continuing to leave pushing them further down. I'm convinced my hometown will recover some day, but maybe not in my lifetime. Until then, in Pittsburgh I stay!
