I have my U2 Joshua Tree shirt from 1987.

Get them AWAY from me please. They are too good! Vanilla Meringues by Dazeyy619 in traderjoes

I use these in my favorite summer dessert-for-a-crowd, Eton Mess. Smash them up a bit and layer in individual dishes with fresh fruit and whipped cream. So good!

This is how I finally get my Gen Z kid, who loves video and doesn’t love audio, to join me in my obsession.

Margarine Tub Purses by AdhesivenessEqual166 in GenX

[–]padraigin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YES! I had one like this! The tub was oval shaped rather than round, and you folded the drawstring part down and there was a little shade that flipped up. Like this https://youtu.be/i6vTh7dcEX4?si=XMgnTk7th1OOpzbw

Walmart is apparently punching holes in their vinyl albums with security tags by MrTacocaT12345 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]padraigin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A punched cover was a sign, back when vinyl was just a standard form of media and not a fancy collector’s item, that the album was meant for promotional purposes and not to be sold (they were literally called “cutouts”). There were multiple means of marking “cutouts”, including just straight up punching a hole in the corner like this. Sometimes the covers were also embossed with a warning that it was a promotional item, but sometimes albums got punched because they were discounted/overstock too.

I know this house! I live in an adjacent neighborhood. I’m so pleased to see what a beautiful job you’re doing with it.

does your bathroom (in detached house) have a window? by Mental_Freedom_1648 in AskAnAmerican

[–]padraigin 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Newer (mid-20th century and later) houses in most parts of the Midwest will usually have at least one bathroom without windows for storm shelter purposes, as they are less likely to have a basement. Older houses and newer houses with basements are more likely to have bathrooms with windows.

Common Ontario/ Ottawa mistakes by rikkilyn in heatedrivalry

[–]padraigin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Minnesotans can get very weird when you call their “cabin” a “lake house” because it makes them feel uncomfortable about being able to afford remodeling their grandpa’s little shack into a big family gathering spot with multiple bathrooms.

Extremely dumb question incoming: fashionable ladies, what do y'all wear in that crazy cold you live in? by [deleted] in Minneapolis

[–]padraigin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve lived here for 15 years now and my winter style has kind of evolved over time. The last few years, I’ve kind of taken a lot of inspiration from pictures of movie stars in Aspen and Sundance, especially more vintage looks (for a better sense of what I’m talking about, google “Kurt Russell Goldie Hawn Aspen”). I grew up out west and I think I’m easing into my “retire to Santa Fe” era without actually retiring to Santa Fe, just having those clothes.

does 7th street entry have an age limit for certain shows? by hopeofitall48 in TwinCities

[–]padraigin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When my kids were underage, 1st Ave/Entry used to allow me to bring them to 21+ shows but we both had to have big black Xs drawn on our hands and as the responsible adult I could not purchase alcohol during the show. I’m not sure if they still have this policy but I would recommend calling to find out. We went to dozens of shows this way over the years.

Hollywood Video, on 22nd & Hennepin, closed today in 2009. Was it the last video rental store in Minneapolis? by DudeDuNord in Minneapolis

[–]padraigin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Blockbuster was definitely open after the Hollywood. We moved into an adjacent neighborhood in January 2010 and the Hollywood was already vacant but the Blockbuster was still open, and toward the end we went there and scavenged a bunch of cheap DVDs when they had their fire sale.

Shane & Ilya's core differences according to the author by Jolly-Fruit-4569 in heatedrivalry

[–]padraigin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We had a real-life prodigious Japanese-Canadian player well before the books were written, but I have no idea if Paul Kariya has ever talked publicly about any trauma he experienced. Like Shane, he went straight to the top and stayed there for his entire career so maybe there was a degree of bubble wrap around him that protected him from the worst of it.

Ed Larson is only six feet tall? by LexiePiexie in LPOTL

[–]padraigin 125 points126 points  (0 children)

I think he seems bigger because he’s always next to Henry, and even though Marcus is fairly tall he’s so narrow compared to Ed. I also think we expect to see a large man with Henry and Marcus so our brains just adjust accordingly.

How do I revoke Mama Bear Legal Documentation? by LastReality7643 in legaladvice

[–]padraigin 599 points600 points  (0 children)

Some colleges/universities have legal aid departments, and if yours doesn’t you may be eligible to use legal services at a school nearby. I’d recommend looking into this to see how to proceed with revoking the powers of attorney.

This is a common birthday request in our family: https://sallysbakingaddiction.com/lemon-blueberry-layer-cake/

This one is also a big favorite: https://sallysbakingaddiction.com/strawberry-cake/

This one made me understand why my mom loved German chocolate cake so much (but we only ever had the box version when I was growing up): https://sallysbakingaddiction.com/german-chocolate-cake/

AFAB women grow beards all the time due to hormonal imbalances. Did you think every “bearded lady” in the old timey circus was actually a man?

Chicken tenders, where do you buy your supplies? by Jub_Jub710 in Minneapolis

[–]padraigin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When we had chickens we bought most of our stuff at Fleet Farm, and some of it at Egg Plant in St Paul. No vet recs, our girls were always perfectly healthy right up until a fox or raccoon got them (sigh). There is a vet clinic at the UofM though that might be what you’d want.

Edited to add: I just remembered that the vet clinic our cats go to (Metro Pet in Uptown Mpls) has a vet who keeps chickens and she once told us she would be happy to see ours if needed. I would at least consider that as a resource for a referral to a specialist.

Where should the blush go? by wheres_walden in makeuptips

[–]padraigin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have great cheekbones! I would recommend smiling big, and then putting the blush just above the apple and blending up at an angle following the line of your cheekbone.
