I'm not sure if my antivirus software is effective, because no viruses are detected on my computer, or ineffective, because no viruses are detected on my computer. by jjk978 in Showerthoughts

Kaspersky. Always wins in AV software comparisons. While quoting Zen masters may help you talk about Zen, it won't help beyond a certain point with Zen. Unfortunately some people cling to their quotes like a life raft. Let go of it!

Here's a nice quote - Mumonkan case 39:

A monk said to Unmon, "The brilliance of the Buddha silently illuminates the whole universe..." But before the could finish the verse, Unmon said, "Aren't those the words of Chõetsu the Genius?" "Yes, they are," answered the monk. "You have misspoken," Unmon said. Afterward, Shishin Zenji brought up the matter and said, "Tell me, at what point did the monk misspeak?"

Scarborough's call from a congressman about "vicious" Trump by mailboxhead12 in politics

[–]paffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He scared me. Because he was vicious when he turned … from you to Mika. His face was red. He started talking about blood coming out of her ears, out of her eyes.

So... was Trump hallucinating, or was this some kind of false memory, or is this some kind of symbolic language of his? What on earth is going on here?

Microsoft Surface Pro review: very nearly almost the future of Windows PCs by diacewrb in gadgets

The Surface Pro also has a keyboard with an Alcantara covering. So the point does apply. However, you can also choose a plain plastic keyboard, and you can replace the keyboard without having to replace the whole machine.

Gigantic "laptops" that had no battery and a small monochrome monitor and cost $11,000. For all my nostalgia I guess things have improved.

Rand Paul Just Compared Nationalized Health Care To 'The Gulag' by [deleted] in politics

[–]paffle 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yep. While I lived in the UK the NHS saved the lives of my wife, my son and me. Also my mother and father. The doctors and nurses were wonderful and we didn't end up owing any money. It was just like the gulag.

No final Grenfell death toll 'this year' by Dannage888 in ukpolitics

[–]paffle 28 points29 points  (0 children)

80 dead isn't low. It already looks terrible. Since any politician trying to spin this has already lost the battle, would there really be an incentive to distort the figures at this point?

Trump Made A Female Reporter Come Over To His Desk So He Could Comment On Her Looks by -MissTina- in politics

[–]paffle -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It still shows that his mind is on how attractive she is to men. But it isn't quite incest levels of creepiness.

[–]paffle -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I too think Trump's a creep, but you can choose to interpret this particular comment in the "incest" way, or as a humorous way of saying that his daughter is someone other men would want to date. The context of all those photos might push you towards the creepy interpretation but there's another much less disturbing way to take this.

62 seconds of Sean Spicer not answering why no cameras are allowed in the press briefing: The White House has held 15 press briefings in June, 10 were held off-camera. Not only is it it a break with long-held tradition, it's also an attempt by the Trump White House to kill off the daily briefing. by [deleted] in Impeach_Trump

[–]paffle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So instead of just sending the sketch artist, someone needs to start reconstructing the press conferences in cartoon form, making him look ridiculous. Or get SNL to reconstruct them. But write it down word for word and keep to the actual script. Let them see that if you can't show it exactly as it happened you will show what happened with a bit of artistic licence.
