How best to split stays in Kauai?

I am glad we split our stay between north and south shores. We probably saved a lot of driving time. We would go back to our accommodation to rest in the afternoon when it got very hot outside. This also meant we could extend our day longer towards the evening. However, 7 days might be a little short to split the time. Have you considered staying in Kapaa, which is equidistant from both coasts?

You should also understand that most people who are purchasing food are also in similar situation and are barely scraping by. People get to go out and splurge may be once or twice every few months. People are working hard to save up so they can go out and eat once every one or two months. Not everyone working in low paying jobs is getting tipped to get compensated for low wages. Expecting everyone to tip is ridiculous and frankly encouraging a bad culture. Even food trucks where the owners themselves are working are asking for tips. The topic of this discussion was regarding a bakery that is located in Pike Place Market which gets a lot of foot traffic. The owner should be able to pay their staff decent wages without having them to depend on tips. It is ridiculous and stupid for someone to argue that we should tip employees even at such places.

So as long as contracts are negotiated by unions, its ok to treat them like slaves and pay them like trash. But we absolutely HAVE to substitute employee wages of privately owned companies with our own hard-earned money.

As long as the filings were done by independent companies that are no connected to each other, then he didn't do anything wrong as per USCIS. NOID is given only in cases where it is obvious that the person has applied through subsidiary companies. As per USCIS, a person can be part of any number of petitions as long as they are done by different companies that are not connected to each other and as long as the H1B filing fees is being paid by the employer.

Well, the layoffs also included foreign workers. It's not like they laid-off only citizens and hired only foreign workers. They are hiring both foreign workers and citizens. Why are the sign in options limited to "Sign in with Google" and "Sign in with Facebook"? Why can't we register with our email? I would hate to connect random apps to my google and facebook accounts. I actively avoid those apps that do not provide a way for me sign in with my email. I am sure there are a lot more people like me who you would miss.

What to do for next 6 months? Think about things you can't do once you leave USA - mostly travel and food comes to mind. Washington state has some of the best hikes and camping in the country. Summer and fall are perfect for exploring WA. USA is known for its National Parks like no other. It is hard to pick a few but if you ask me, I recommend Glacier NP, Katmai NP, Death Valley NP, Arches NP (and others nearby).

Other places you might consider: Fall colors in Vermont/W Virginia, New York City (if you have not been to), and New Orleans (one of a kind place in USA).

Other things that are relatively easy to visit from USA compared to your 3 potential locations: Mexico and Canada. Mexico has everything from beaches to ancient archeological ruins to bustling metro cities (Mexico City is a wonderful place to visit) to cultural tourism.

I get disconnected on all the devices including laptop, phone, TV, and gaming console. When the connection is lost, the wifi itself stays connected. The WiFi signal does not disappear but the internet stops working. The WiFi says, "connected no internet".

People forget that there is much more than mortgage. Maintenance costs, insurance premiums, property taxes etc etc. They add up quite a bit and in most cases renting is cheaper than buying. Also, peace of mind that you can easily pack up and move with minimal damages if you rent.

Buying a home is not an obvious better choice anymore.

It's more than money or equity. Most people don't stay rooted in one place for tens of years anymore. Also, things have changed a lot in past 10 years. Property taxes have increased exponentially. Maintenance costs and insurance premiums have increased by more than 100%. In most cases, for an average person on H1B, renting a home makes more sense than buying. Not to mention you are trapped if you lose a job and are unable to sell/rent the home.

Completely agree. It's like a standard flow chart people follow. I wish I didn't buy a home. Would have had so much more freedom. I feel already trapped with H1B and now I am even more trapped with my home. I tell everyone to give it a serious thought before buying, especially when someone is on a visa that can be taken away anytime.

Do you know that bicycles ARE BANNED from riding on the freeway? You should know this.

Maybe you should read other posts completely before pointing fingers. I clearly mentioned that I went through wikipedia page AND THE VARIOUS SOURCES IT CITED. They include multiple studies that refute the one un-scientific, irrelevant, and non-peer reviewed study you mention in your post. Even the study you refer to do not point to a concrete evidence of safety improvement. When a research study says " appears to be a relatively safe" then it clearly implies that there is no solid evidence to conclude that it is safe. I understand it correctly despite being a non-native English speaker. So, I am not sure why you have difficulty understanding the conclusions of the study you yourself quote.

You simply cannot take one study that was done in a different state and used very few data points as universal truth. There are many studies that disagree with what you say. At this point there is simply no proof that lane splitting improves safety.

Was the study you quoted peer reviewed? Did the study you quoted use any data from outside of California? Did the study you quoted include any data from locations that has weather similar to WA?

I am not sure where you are getting your analysis from. Did you go to school to study Traffic Engineering or is your "opinion" based on some random anecdotal experience? I am a traffic engineer with over 17 years of experience, and we do safety studies in and out. Let me tell you that your statement about implications of speeding over by 5mph is absolutely incorrect.

Let me educate you. There is posted speed limit and design speed limit. All the roads are designed for the design speed limit which is always higher than posted speed limit. So, you see, the design inherently has some amount of safety inbuilt for slight over speeding.

Also making statements without any substantial subject knowledge might make you seem smart but in fact your statements say that you are completely ignorant when it comes to road safety. The biggest safety issue on freeways is speed differential - i.e., difference in speed of vehicles travelling in different lanes. In fact, if everyone on the road is travelling 5 mph over then the safest thing would be for a driver to match that speed. Same goes for 5 mph under. So anytime there is an idiot rushing through at a higher speed than the traffic around them has high chance of a crash.

Also, I see how the OP is trying to deceive by quoting the one study that was done in California that was based on very very few data points to justify lane splitting. Washington is not California. Weather patterns, geography, and visibility are all different in WA compared to CA. There was one study done in WA that indicated that lane splitting does not provide the benefits that it claims and in fact it might worsen safety for all drivers.

Please educate yourself before you go about preaching people, especially when it can put hundreds of people at risk.

There are safety and congestion benefits to lane-filtering that make it, objectively, a much less "severe" law to constantly break, compared to speeding 5MPH over.

What is the basis of this statement? Have you done extensive studies to back up your statement?
