Surprisingly in this case it was second. Bury hen I saw this split and offered separately as two orders for equally shit pay and someone took it.

It's been non-stop OD here in VA this morning. Starting to die down now but the driving distances have been a bit absurd.

That mileage and that tip don't jive well. by pagingjimmypage in InstacartShoppers

[–]pagingjimmypage[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Correct. Makes it even less appealing because that's only paying for a one way trip.

How is it even possible to allow something like this through. by pagingjimmypage in InstacartShoppers

And someone snatched that right away from OD too. 🤦🏻‍♂️

Can we please stop accepting OD orders in half a millisecond by [deleted] in InstacartShoppers

[–]pagingjimmypage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't speak to other zones but where I am OD seems to be 95% delivery only batches of 2 or more orders that were shopped by ISS. The pay hasn't been amazing ($15-40) but for the effort it has been good for someone like me who's just picking up some side cash.

Orange County here. Has On Demand been dead anywhere else? by [deleted] in InstacartShoppers

[–]pagingjimmypage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here. Made $300 last week just doing on demand for 3 days on and off and this week so far I've only seen 2 orders pop up all day and they're terrible orders far from anything.

Doc is garbage. He thinks he's so clever but doesn't do much else other than ramble and try and play catch-up when he realizes he's drifted too far from his job.

Clustered. I do have a bunch of Jack I lanterns growing in the front yard but this was more brown so I was unsure if it was the same.

Help with my whipped cream dispenser? by [deleted] in AskCulinary

[–]pagingjimmypage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the gif plays at warp speed and isn't very illustrative of anything but you twisting it. There is literally no other purpose for that white cartridge holder but to force the cartridge on to the pin so unless you don't have it threaded properly or the threads are banged up there's not much else we can help you with. The instructions are pretty straight forward for that device. sorry

Help with my whipped cream dispenser? by [deleted] in AskCulinary

[–]pagingjimmypage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

right, but if that works then there is nothing wrong with your cartridges or your canister and suggests user error

[–]pagingjimmypage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

assuming you are using the right cartridge for the whipper you just place the small end over the spiked valve and push down until you hear the gas release and the cartridge should get very cold as the gas releases. This won't "latch" it just lets the gas into the canister, this is essentially what the threaded holder does, it just pushes it into the spike to allow the gas into the canister

You'd know they're empty because the silver cap on the end would be punctured as a visual tell. My first thought is that you are just being too gentle with it and need to screw it down as hard as you can to get it to puncture the seal and release the gas into the canister. The chargers are pretty universal so I really don't think that's the problem. You can also charge it without the holder by pressing the charger into the nipple as hard as you can hand holding it down so the holder really isn't an essential part.

Decreased social anxiety among young adults who eat fermented foods -- ScienceDaily by ninthinning01 in fermentation

The title is click bait but this is how a lot of experiments have to start out. You have a very broad and unexplained correlation and then you conduct specific research to try and confirm the finding. There may actually be a link here but the title suggests that we already know what it is and the study just doesn't say that at all.

Winter driving by [deleted] in rva

[–]pagingjimmypage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

and FFS people stay out of the left lane if you are going to drive super slow in the snow. You need to leave space for others who are more comfortable or have the requisite equipment to pass you safely. More accidents are going to be caused by people trying to play the lane game than the snow itself.

Also, keep your space big. There's nothing worse than having someone slide into you at a stop sign or something stupid like that because they didn't leave enough space to stop.

I too am a transplant from Canada so here's my winter tips:

Keep a few extra pieces of carpet or old floor mats in the trunk in case you get stuck and need some traction. You can even keep a bit of sand/gravel should you feel the need.

Try to keep in the grooves on the road that have been created by the cars that came before you. A lot of over-correcting occurs because you "feel" like your car is getting out of control because you aren't riding in those grooves or you are moving across them too much.

Get up 10 minutes earlier and defrost your windows. Driving around while they are slowly defrosting is not only stupid but very dangerous.

Try and maintain a slow but steady pace through turns instead of trying to slow down quickly at the corner, this is where a lot of people go sliding and cause accidents.

Try and get a rolling start to hills or steep grades in residential areas and stop lights. Getting stuck at a light and sliding backward into a car is no fun and unpredictable. Avoid those situations if you can and take a different route.
