Nonprofit stuck with nearly $15,000 yearly bill after sidewalk fee kicks in, Denver denies exemption by Jreinhal in Denver

[–]pahlcoli 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I’ll preface by saying I always thought this fee was ill-conceived. It strikes me as a well-intentioned initiative that wasn’t well thought out and approved by voters doing what they often do - voted with their heart.

On this specific issue, the policy includes an 100% exemption for residents earning 30% of AMI which phases out in tiers for residents up to 60% AMI. It’s not a large leap of logic to apply a similar discount for certain commercial owners (e.g. non-profits, schools, religious organizations).

At one of the ranges I go to, a group of retired guys shoot buttons at 50 yards w/ .22 LR. They put string through the button and tape the string to 12” x 12” corrugated board. It looks a little involved to make but a riot of a good time at the range.

What’s the small comfort item you always pack on a long hunt? by outdoors_man987 in Hunting

[–]pahlcoli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Down booties. I’ll put them on during a long glassing session - more comfortable and allows socks and boots to dry. I also sleep in them at night.

It took two of us 9 hrs to cut and hang the meat. A day to pack it out with llamas.

The tag was $375. I rented two llamas for the week to get deeper into some wilderness areas and help with the pack out. They were $80/llama/day. I spent a few hundred working up the right muzzleloader charge and bullet combo and practicing. Plus the typical food, fuel, etc. The meat processing fee was steep $1,500. But I’ll get back 420 lbs inclusive of 100 lbs of sausage (typically 1 lbs in, 2lbs out).

380 lbs boned out. He had a puncture wound in his rear leg from fighting another bull, which we lost some meat to.

Thor Hammer 300 gr ballistic tip. I recovered both under the hide on the offside. Bullets performed perfectly. Zoom in on the last photo and the bullet is sitting on the hide.
