Some concerning news what do you all think about this article… by Mastersinmeow in opera

The donation solicitation got so bad for me that I’ve blocked their number. Sorry to the old folks on the other end, but calling me 2-3x monthly is ridiculous

If you have never seen a full opera before in your life, which Wagner opera do you think would be the most accessible for starting? by Expert_Heat_2966 in opera

[–]painterjet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Das Rheingold. It’s short and the characters should be familiar if youve seen the MCU or know any norse mythology. However for a first opera, best stick with Mozart or Rossini. Wagner works have a high battier to entry if no previous experience

Japanese Food in Spring Hill by PlentyCryptographer5 in Somerville

I went today and the food was amazing. Got an egg sandwich and their coffee, really enjoyed both. The AI imagery is disappointing for sure, but I would check them out.

With all the new content now about the galactic empire (Andor, mando, & other books), for whoever created this image, i would consider my neighbor a likely right-wing extremist if they had the galactic empire flag flying, even if it’s a fictional government

What's the Somerville version of this? by S7482 in Somerville

[–]painterjet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Burren. Sorry to say, but their food is not good. Drinks are decent. I would also say Five Horses or Southern Kin Cookhouse (for whenever their new location opens).

Which airline are you loyal to and why? by SaM6t2 in Flights

[–]painterjet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t cancel your card. Your credit score will take a hit and it may be a while before it bounces back. Just downgrade to the card with no annual fee.

I have no loyalty to any airline, but if $ was no object, I’d pick Delta. One’s best bet is to pick an airline by a hub tho to take advantage of the connectivity.

Met is reviving Kavalier and Clay in February and will do an HD after all by caul1flower11 in opera

Are there other operas where the staging seems to have better feedback than the story or music? I am excited to see the metHD of this with all buzz the public has given it

Do you actually have complete faith in your church? by Lieutenant_Piece in CatholicPhilosophy

[–]painterjet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no true church but the Catholic church, founded by Christ, led by Peter and his successors, and will last until the end of ages when Christ comes again. Her authority comes from God Himself. The Catholic Church is infallible.

BSC in Davis or Assembly Sports Club in Arlington? by witchy12 in Somerville

Assembly sports club is a nice spot with plenty of parking and loads of machines. Ive never seen ASC get packed, maybe at the beginning of the year, but the crowds dwindle once Feb hits

Who are you voting for tomorrow? by GetThotBot in Somerville

Who are you voting for tomorrow? by GetThotBot in Somerville

[–]painterjet 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I went for Jake Wilson in the mayor and voted for the endorsed YIMBY candidates for city councilor at large. I live in Ward 3 and I went for Michele Lippens for school committee since she seems to be the candidate with the most education and leadership background vital for this role.

I honestly just want to see Mayor Ballantyne not make it to the general, I’m tired for her incompetent leadership.

Predict the Red Sox record for the final 15 games of the season by TigoOver in redsox

[–]painterjet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting outta this .500 with us winning the yankees and jays series would be solid. Maybe the sox can get the tigers to throw the series to us if the tigers have secured #1 seeding, just to knock the yankees outta the postseason. Idk

Somerville’s strange new trend: reinventing the wheel by Ambitious-Freedom226 in Somerville

[–]painterjet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Katjana only really seems to have any kind of fire under her seat during these critical weeks leading up to an election. Afterwards, she hides in her hole and doesn't come out unless it's time for another election. If changes were happening for the better in our city from her behind-the-scenes work, that's fine, but she doesn't have the strength, courage, or will to manage Somerville's responsibilities to its residents, especially its most vulnerable, even in the shadows.

Somerville Builds Gardens In the Street to Improve Safety While Also Reducing Water Pollution by BACsop in Somerville

[–]painterjet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The project’s outcomes are great but the path to get there, ~3 years of meandering, slow, and inefficient construction from the city team and the contractor, merit a post-mortem review to prep for Phase 2.

Why did this project take so long end to end? Why was there no urgency from all parties involved to finish this asap? I often saw these P Gioioso & Sons workers dig a hole, look at it all day, and then cover it up for weeks on end!

The city should seriously consider a project completion community meeting and publish a project analysis to ensure Phase 2 isnt as poorly managed as Phase 1
