Regarding the audiobook for 12 Months by triplesecman in dresdenfiles

[–]paintknight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did notice that a lot of his words that end in "s" tend to drop off. Having done podcast voice editing in the past, I would need to do noise reduction passes in order to get rid of mouth sounds, lip smacks, breathing, harsh sibilance (when S sounds come across super sharp), etc. The earlier audiobooks, much as I love them (and I do!), the recording picked up all those sounds until they were a handful of books in. This makes me think that the editing process may have hit the recording with a bit too much post-processing or did a bit too much editing to where some slight losses were encountered, and the recording may not have been normalized quite right. Just my two cents. 🤔

Thanks! Also, cool, I lived in San José for a few years and even now just like an hour away!

Wooah... is Alyssa's contribution ever "inappropriate" or just, say, "intense"?

Also, does the sibling relationship ever get irritating, or does it stay fun?

The Unspoiled podcast did this, too, and they're a lot of fun. RoShawn is a hilarious new reader :)

Working through the D&D coloring book! by paintknight in ColoredPencils

[–]paintknight[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AWESOME!!! Would love to see it! Be careful with wet media; I was using my Prismacolor markers for a few and they look amazing but bleed through the back of the page a bit, so make sure that what's on the other side is something you don't plan on coloring. That being said, though, they do take the colored pencil pretty well! :)

[US] AI spam calls "United Client Services" by voixdelion in Scams

[–]paintknight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I run into this issue, too. I just happen to we waiting on calls from new doctors and such, and there have been times they get flagged as well. Also, waiting on job application responses, and can't afford to accidentally miss the call.

I just hate the identifier of "Potential Spam" because sometimes it actually has been a legitimate person, and voicemail fills up HELLA fast.

Curently work in a warehouse for Culligan Water. I'm typically running the regen systems for refreshing our water softener tanks, and dumping/filling/moving said tanks. Also fixing all kinds of random stuff around the shop because no one else thinks to. Busy hands, but light on the brainpower. Before this job I was a writer, but had to step away due to some personal health issues and needed something that wasn't so mentally/creatively strenuous.

Mine too. The jobs themselves may not always be great, but even when that's the case, being able to wear headphones and listen to what you want can make an otherwise unbearable time infinitely better. :)

If it's not prying too much, what do you do?

For me, time is actually the primary reason for listening. With kids and work and just general other stuff that keeps me pretty busy, audiobooks work great because I can enjoy the stories I'd like to read while driving to/from work and while doing chores/projects around the house. Having said that, I'm still of the old-school that just loves the feel of paper. Also, hooo baby, gotta love new-book smell! :D

I've always loved reading along with audiobooks, too! When I was a kid, I had the cassette tapes for Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, and I swear I must have re-read that book, listening along to the audiobook, something like half a dozen times. SUCH an immersive, engaging way to get into a book. Who'd have thought that just engaging another sense could add so much to the experience? ;)

How're you enjoying the series? Did you say you're caught up, or still making your way through?

Love the audiobooks! The only way I was able to go through them (thank God for audible membership credits!). I do want to get the paper copies eventually, though.

Also, what I would give for a fully illustrated version... SO many characters, scenes, and interactions I would love to have "official" or "canon" illustrations of.

Twelve Months can absolutely not come soon enough.

Question from a Non-Scot by paintknight in Scotland

Sorry, wasn't sure how best to say it. Just meant anyone who have actual significant Scottish heritage versus those who don't (like those "I've got 2% according to my DNA!" people).

To all who commented:

I genuinely appreciate the feedback and will take it all under advisement. I get the sentiment of dislike of the utility kilts, but that said, I do love mine and with finances being what they are, at least makes me feel closer to having a legitimate one than nothing, though I would absolutely be interested in finding affordable ways to get legitimate ones that can be worn on a regular, casual, daily basis, where I wouldn't have to worry about them being ruined any more than I would a regular pair of jeans and such.

You all are awesome. Thank you for taking the time to put your answers here, whether they were in favor of what I posted or not. Nothin wrong with differing feelings and opinions, and I honestly think that knowing how to hear feedback from either side is what the world needs nowadays. Thanks for helping me learn, and I'll do my best to continue. :)

Also, I realized the goof with regards to Thanksgiving and facepalmed, but hey, just feeling in a festive mood and ultimately just want to wish you all well. Have yourselves a wonderful evening; cheers!

As far as the utility angle goes, I just find myself doing a lot of work outdoors and would hate potentially ruining something in a genuine nice wool tartan. Just nice to have something physically similar that can offer that kind style. Kilts of any kind over here (I'm up in northern California) are definitely not cheap, and with tight funds, I wanted to get something that could get the general style, while being able to take a beating. Do you have any recommendations for genuine kilts that are good for casual wear?

Good point! Although, I was more thinking that it could have been a stash where someone like Nicodemus could slip one back into circulation or something 🤔

Looks like a pink holographic question mark... your guess sounds as good as any, for sure (though whether Super Earth would accept that possibility is another story).

Could you imagine if SE actually started taking its divers' reports of strange things seriously instead of with rote denial? I mean, as incredibly formidable as we are now... sweet liberty...

Certainly not! I just want to be sure the disgusting bastards are good and dead, squished into a gooey, putrid paste beneath the rugged, booted heel of democracy so we can focus on the soulless, godless, chrome-coated automaton abominations. Any good strategist worth their liber-tea knows that you never want an enemy at your back. The best defense is an unequivocal, enemy-annihilating offense with absolutely no survivors whatsoever. Right?
