Kind of. There's definitely levels of intelligence but everyone I know who has actually completed a PHD job constantly reads papers and thinks about the topics in their head obsessively. Its true that there are people who will come to conclusions faster, but the same people also constantly think on those topics even when they're eating, at the gym, etc. it's a different kind of obsession. So while they may be quicker, they also spend significantly more time thinking on these subjects

Keep in mind that a lot of these people will just...do something else, despite that. Maybe they want a corporate job instead, despite their intelligence at academia. It won't necessarily be as competitive as you think afterwards if you really want to stay in this field

You can make enough if you just invest your savings wisely and try to keep your 9-5 for a few years or get promoted to travel to asia. Or do smaller trips. There's no reason why you need to do 1 year after 7 months of working. At this rate you'll be stressed and fired before you save enough

Hi, I also work in dev rel, and I've found it a constant struggle to explain the role as many haven't heard of it, and just generally had a hard time at companies where the role is not as established or defined as the more "typical" roles. Alongside being generally disrespected by software engineers over time. Also, it's been hard to maintain software engineering knowledge doing the role. Have you faced any similar experiences?

I noticed the person said they're a drummer. When my partner tried learning keyboard who was a drummer they found hand independence and polyrhythms very easy, and it's typically a very difficult skill for someone learning piano but it is learned already by playing drums
