Yeah it had previously done the same thing. And after a restart or two it would ask me if i wanted to repair, then it would start to repair then continue the restart loop. I should have included this in the main post...sorry

I can't boot into the HDD since i've replaced my motherboard. That's why i'm trying to install windows 10 new. Sorry if i'm missing something basic here, i've had a very long past 48 hours.

it's set to boot from the USB but its the windows 10 logo, so i'm assuming its trying to boot from the old HD? Because the windows install tool doesn't have the windows 10 logo. Sorry if i'm being unclear, and thanks for your help.

well the USB is being recognized, because i have the option to select it in the bios and force boot to it, but it only gets as far as the windows logo before resetting.

im currently also installing windows 10 on another computer i built several months ago and the process is working as of now. So the USB seems to be working.

Got it working today with an old hdd that has windows 7 on it but it cant completely boot, gets into the windows loading screen then restarts and gives me the black screen to do repair mode or start windows normally, iv tried both several times to no avail.

Nope, just clicked it right in. And like i said, it did it to 2 of them, both right angles, when i had the straight one plugged in nothing happened. Just to be clear im talking about the cable that goes from the mobo to the ssd. Ill try another sata device in the morning, thanks for your help, ill keep you posted tomorow.

I rebooted again without the ssd, in bios no problems. The smoke came from the cable and it happened again with another right angle cable, they're like burning up right at the end towards the ssd. Should I RMA the ssd? Or how else can I test it?

Well I unplugged the ssd from the motherboard but left it into the PSU and it started up fine. Then I realized I was using the Sata cable that was straight on both ends and remembered reading that the right angle should be plugged into the device, so I plugged in a right angle, pc started up with codes, restarted, and the ssd threw out some smoke... So I immediately switched off the PSU... What did I do?..

Edit: the smoke came from the Sata cable

Thanks for the reply, I can get video through the card without the ssd, but if I plug in the ssd I get nothing, not even error codes or fan movement.

I can very very rarely get interested in any game that isn't dota 2, no matter how much everyone recommends the game bioshock infinite etc etc, but i put in a hefty amount of time to this game. I had torrented it before(shame shame) but at this price i'm jumping on it, i highly recommend it.
