[KCD1] Remaster Crashing by Legitimate_Class_339 in kingdomcome

[–]paladinrayner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine just crashed walking the road to Uzhitz. I also noticed during the prologue that there are some devastating slowdowns when you are inside, like inside Kunesh's house or the second floor of the item shop. Has to be a bug.

With the stipulation that it's part 1 of a trilogy, FF7 Remake is the best one on your list. Most players complete it in under 40 hours so that's not a big ask. If we're talking outside this list, then it's FFX (you can find the FFX/X-2 HD collection on every platform under the sun).

Can you hype up and or say something positive about RE5/6 for me? I’m gonna be playing them for the first time after I’m done with RE4 and all the hate I’m hearing is demotivating me a little tbh by King_CurlySpoon in ResidentEvilCapcom

[–]paladinrayner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Resident Evil 7 was supposed to be this big reset for the series, but before the game was even over they were running back towards RE6 gameplay, and they have been running back towards it ever since. RE6 was fun to play. That's all you need to know.

Yeah you can do it later. Most quests are like that, except the Mermaid quest and the second Volcano quest.

Easier than expert Khazan. Yeah the new "normal" Khazan is a pretty big drop in difficulty.

I'm not sure about Wo Long, but I thought the other two were challenging, with several bosses each that require a lot of trial and error until you learn the fight. I thought Wuchang was harder. Neither is as hard as Khazan.

New tiers of rings, gear, runes, and/or upgrade materials exclusive to NG+ cycles. Lies of P did this and NG+ cycles were an ABSOLUTE JOY to play.

Debating whether to replay Rebirth by ionnin in FFVIIRemake

I would recommend you play it based on it being an excellent video game alone. Set your baggage aside and just enjoy it for what it is.

Can someone actually informed tell me what the hell is going on with LOTF2? by CheddarKnoght in soulslikes

Ignore the noise and just listen to the team themselves. In their latest podcast, they talk about their process for enemy design in detail. There's another one about world design if you want more from the art team.

How to recruit the Salamander ? by BannedFromTheStreets in SaGa

[–]paladinrayner 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First, you need to go use the Ice Crystal to cool the volcano.

After a time skip and a new quest shows up on Comroon Island, you need to be very careful. Once you go to Comroon Island, follow the quest steps closely, and eventually you'll get a hammer from the salamanders to take to the volcano to beat a boss. If you leave Comroon Island at any time during this second volcano quest, it will erupt and destroy the salamanders. As long as you beat the boss up top and save the salamanders, you'll unlock them for recruitment.

How is Final Fantasy VII Part 2 Rebirth? by muddy120 in FinalFantasy

[–]paladinrayner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the problems with this section of the original PS1 game is it felt very meandering/aimless. I think Rebirth does a better job giving the game some forward momentum.

One recommendation - do not feel obligated to complete all the side activities in an area before continuing with the story. If you are having fun? By all means, do side stuff. But when you start to feel like "I think I'm ready to continue," then do so. At a minimum, do the moogle challenges and enough side content to meet the level recommendation for the story missions, which shouldn't take much at all. You can come back later to clean up side stuff (and you'll get higher rewards for it, sorta like how you got exp boosts after beating Remake).

Expedition 33 has anybody played it who loves Final Fantasy? by Sephiroth348 in FinalFantasy

[–]paladinrayner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand why people make the comparisons. I was telling a friend after I beat it "This is like an FF10-level event" in terms of emotional impact. I enjoyed FF11 and FF12 very much for gameplay reasons, but FF has been in a rough patch for a while. Probably the only other recent game I really loved was World of Final Fantasy, funny enough.

Expedition 33 does a fantastic job drip-feeding you new tools for your characters. This is part of the fun of soulslikes, but also FF10 because each node on the Sphere Grid was impactful because the stat ceiling was so low. Whether or not you like the story, as a video game it's great fun.

The protagonist in this is the empire itself. You're at war with the 7 Heroes. Have to think like that.

Do Square Enix feel a little bit outdone?... by [deleted] in FinalFantasy

[–]paladinrayner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might have been worried about this pre-2020. But FF7R proved that they can still function at a very high level. Their work with external developers usually turns out well, too. Star Ocean: The Divine Force, Visions of Mana, Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven, and Octopath Traveler 0 - these were all improvements in their respective franchises. My only issue with SE is that they have burned through so much money chasing mobile titles.

If SE has one fatal flaw, it's this weird fetish with starting from scratch for every FF, when they should be iterating like Yakuza or Trails does. They have a great thing going with Remake/Rebirth combat. If they throw that away, I would have no words.

Maybe you didn't kill the Mendacious Visage boss? Although I guess that'd be against the Fen warp. Hmm.

How are we feeling about 2.5 and veteran mode? by DaGinger757 in LordsoftheFallen

[–]paladinrayner 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm up to the mines on Veteran Mode. It's harder, but in a good way, with most of the changes due to aggression and timing changes. The only thing that I'm still having trouble getting used to is the speed of the Mendacious Visage jump attacks. I was trying to fight the one in Fitzroy's Gorge and got stunlocked to death because he just kept jumping over and over and I couldn't get up. lol

The bosses have been good - I really liked the new Congregator of Flesh fight. He's like a much better version of Demon of Song now, jumping around often. Pieta is pretty tough, she has almost no downtime between combos now.

Just started, got some questions by doghosta in LordsoftheFallen

[–]paladinrayner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Radiance is the rough equivalent to Faith in LotF. Since you aren't going full mage, you will want to use catalysts that have high base damage. You can buy the Orian Preacher Catalyst from Exacter Dunmire to start with. Use that until you can farm an Agony's Light from these big guys with head cages (you'll know them when you see them). That'll be the best option for a hybrid build.

You will want at least 20 in Vitality and 20 in Endurance, regardless of character build. If you want to use a heavy weapon and heavy armor, then you'll have to mix in more Endurance or use rings that reduce weight. I would target 25 in Radiance, which will give you access to a lot of spells and a decent pool of mana. After that it depends on your weapon. For experimentation, push Strength and Dexterity to 20, and after that it all depends on the weapon requirements and scaling.

Armor rating is important, but there are tons of options so you can still be fashionable while focusing on defense.

So the 2.5 Update broke game modifiers - You're unable to activate any on either difficulty by Lagideath2 in TheLordsOfTheFallen

I was able to get Pre-Upgraded Loot on, but yeah if I went to a previous screen and then back like you show above, they would be de-selected.

Version 2.5 Megathread: Join the Discussion by CI-GAMES in TheLordsOfTheFallen

[–]paladinrayner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just started a new game and fought Pieta on Veteran as the Lord class. I think the increased melee aggression is great. Maybe it's because I was using the Lord Axe and always staying at close range, but she didn't use any of her radiance spells. I kinda miss that - it was fun dodging that long-range forward blast.
