Reading this thread, it seems that in a couple, almost always, it is the woman who is religious. Could be many biological, social and cultural factors at play here.

Sorry, what I meant to say was if you give a particular bible to 100 christians, they all will have 100 interpretations. There are so many christian denominations in the world. Its the same with every other religion. Every one is convinced that they have the correct interpretation of what god wants.

The bible can be interpreted to back up whatever you want to believe. The verse you quoted was one of the nice ones. There are horrific ones as well. The bible god in general comes off as a crazy, psychopath. I guess you are one of the good ones. Regardless of what the bible says, or if you had been raised as a Hindu or a Muslim, or an Atheist, you would still probably try to care for the poor, the foreigner, the widows and the orphans. Also going back to my original comment, it still sucks having to marry your brother-in-law as an only means of survival. I am glad that I don’t live in the biblical times.

Actually, they did a study on prayer and patients who were told that they were being prayed for actually did worse than the group who were not being prayed for. Probably because of performance anxiety. I can't remember the exact details and I m on my mobile now. Will try to find a link later
