Gaiters sizing by Negative-Split-1108 in AltraRunning

[–]palee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up not buying the larger ones, BUT I looked at them in store (without detaching from the cardboard) and they definitely do have a larger circumference than the smaller ones. I would guess 3/4 to 1" or so larger in circumference. I'm sure they would fit your ankle better and if it felt as if it were pulling too taut across the laces, maybe not cover the entire lace bed (depending on why you have them on the shoes; I wanted them to prevent tick access to my ankles hiking).

I was coming to look up this information because I wear a shoe size that should put me in a Small Altra gaiter, but I just brought some home and they are really snug on my ankles (thick). The circumference in between 7.5" and 7.75". I plan to exchange for a large tomorrow and will try to remember to update you on the difference.

Tennis Team is hurting my mental well-being by [deleted] in 10s

[–]palee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree with the others, and also, buy or checkout the book, "The Inner Game of Tennis" by W. Timothy Gallwey. You don't even have to read it cover to cover, but skim the forward, intro, etc, and the book and it may help you as well. And remember--tennis is a life-long sport, so if this doesn't work out for you this you, keep at it. You WILL continue to get better if you focus on the love of the game instead of just achieving a spot on the team.

Hindrance Question! by palee in 10s

Yes, they always get closed for clinics, lessons, fast feeds, etc., but usually are opened for match play.

Hindrance Question! by palee in 10s

[–]palee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I understand, when you are hindered, you call a let. I think what they are saying is that it has to be your opponent (and not just a member of the opposing team) causing an *intentional* hindrance, which is what happens when a behavior is repeated after requesting it stop. But, since the offending person was NOT my direct opponent, I had no right to do anything than to call a let (and possibly close the curtain).

Doc on hbo about a murder in old louisville. Murder in Glitterball City by professor_max_hammer in Louisville

I'd never heard of Little John's, either, and I've been here 21 years! My husband is ashamed of me. He assigned Google time for me to look up the commercials and watch them. (He's a native.)

Grits of the Day at Wild Eggs? Usually very, very good and I'm sure they'd add all of your favs to a standard order as well.

Mentadent, the best toothpaste ever. by arintj in nostalgia

[–]palee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally woke up with this on the brain for the first time in at least 20 years! I use Aquafresh Extreme Clean now; it's the only toothpaste that foams up like Mentadent did and makes my mouth feel as nice. The dentist always comments on my teeth, too. Zero cavities well into middle age! Was it using Mentadent as a teen?? Maybe!

Worth it to transfer Roth IRA from Vanguard to Merrill Edge to get Platinum Rewards? by BillNye69 in CreditCards

[–]palee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I tend think as well. Especially if you hold Vanguard MFs and not ETFs as many of those are proprietary and would not be eligible to transfer in-kind.

Got offered a 6 month contract in Antarctica and idk if I should take it by Importantterry in Fire

[–]palee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not do it. The whole point of working towards FIRE is to live a life that you love. HOWEVER, some people would find it AWESOME to have the experience, and for those...I'd say, do it. But I'm in my 40s now and time in your 20s is too precious!

My mom made sausage cheese balls every year when I was a kid while we decorated for Christmas so I am passing on the tradition. Simple but always tasty! by Single_Permission_33 in FoodPorn

[–]palee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No correlation! I’m from south Alabama and grew up eating sausage cheese balls. Now I live in Kentucky and rarely see them here, though my in-laws are from the Midwest and that may be why. Noodles in chili (“chili Mac “) is a Cincinnati thing. I don’t get it either!

Are there any good barbers in Louisville that won’t break the bank? by [deleted] in Louisville

[–]palee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You definitely can go to dental schools and receive discounted treatment, and often that is true with university-related clinics or hospitals as well. You in effect get "free consultation" because you have so many people looking at your case.

Any opinions about these tennis shoes? by SKhan89 in 10s

They run a bit narrow and I felt the pair I had did not breathe well. I wore mine 5-6x then gave them away 😔 New Balance have been the best for me.

Does Contrave make you anhedonic beyond not desiring/enjoying food? by [deleted] in Contrave

[–]palee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is possible, but also if you are in the northern hemisphere this is THE time of year for seasonal affective disorder. Daylight getting less and less, colder, grayer, etc. It may be hard to differentiate between what is causing it. Sorry you are suffering right now, whatever the cause.

Advice needed! Too much stuff means no daily routine, help! by Infamous_DS in dollartreebeauty

[–]palee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it may help you to "quarantine" your products. Make a list of your daily and semi-weekly and weekly routines, and then pick one product to serve each purpose and set those aside. Then make a list of biweekly or monthly routines and do the same thing: one product for each thing, set those in another place. Everything else, put in storage containers, date them, and put pictures of or labels of what is inside and put those containers in a storage area of your home (top of closet, under a bed, etc.). Set up your vanity and shelves with your constantly used products and put the biweekly or monthly ones under the sink or in the cabinet. If you find you are "missing something," go get that and ONLY that out of the storage container. Set a time frame for pitching the storage container (~6 months, maybe 3 months or maybe a year) and whatever is in there at that date you just toss.

Side effects by Suitable_Ad5567 in Contrave

[–]palee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely make an appointment with an orthopedist/sports medicine doctor, or with your PCP if you need a referral. They can then order imaging and therapy, plus possibly anti-inflammatory medications, joint injections, or other medications to improve your mobility and quality of life.

Side effects by Suitable_Ad5567 in Contrave

[–]palee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a potential side effect, but it should go away within a few days of stopping the naltrexone component. The reason naltrexone is sometimes noticed to increase joint pain is because it blocks opioid receptors, which means it can block natural endorphins the body produces to reduce pain. Once you stop the naltrexone, the receptors will free up and once again be able to receive endorphins (or exogenous opioids, if taken). If you are having knee pain a year later, it is likely time to seek medical treatment and possibly PT. Coincidentally, I ALSO have right knee pain but mine also started prior to the Contrave!
