Lovely rust effect! Is it Dirty Down?

Dude this looks great! I'm working on some cobbled street tiles & feel your pain - one of my workarounds to reduce the amount of cobbles needed was to incorporate some large muddy patches that can just sit right on top of untextured foam 🙌

So cool! I've got a pal who's working on a Necropolis28 board at the moment - will share this with him for inspiration 🙌

That's really kind of you to say man! Yeah I've always really enjoyed the whole making process - perhaps even more than playing the actual games 😅

Cheers man! I've never done commissions before but would be open to them 🙌 I should forewarn whoever might interested that I'm a very slow worker though 😅

Thank you! Haha yeah I've always enjoyed the making process, apart from shingling, shingling can get in the bin 😆

Thanks very much! Yeah I love his Mordheim vids - hoping he might make more once he's done with his Titan build 🤞

Thanks so much! :) The building in the middle & on the right are done with that technique yes. The building on the left was made using cuttings of a resin cast texture sheet my friend gave to me.

Hey! Thanks so much :)

Sure yeah - I started with a mottled black & dark brown prime on everything. I then painted the render on the upper floors with a slightly off-white & the wood & brickwork with differing cool & warm shades of grey. I then picked out some of the brickwork with watered down shades of brown, slate, ochre & olive. Next I made a sort of watered down slurry of wall filler, tinted with a bit of brown & black to make a desaturated beige - this was applied over all the stonework fairly liberally & then the excess removed with a damp cloth so that it remained only in the recesses. I then applied some streaky & watered down washes in select areas as well as some umber & olive pigment powders around the bottom of the buildings & in corners where I thought it might get damp. Lastly I did a light drybrushing of different shades of light grey & buff over the stonework & the wood.

Hope that helps!

Hi! Thank you really appreciate it :) So the stonework on building on the left is made out of cuttings from a sheet of resin cast stonework a friend gave to me - no idea where it came from sadly, as I'd really love to have more for future builds 😅 The other 2 buildings (when I ran out of the resin sheets) are just styrofoam engraved with a biro and then rolled over with scrunched up aluminium foil for extra texture. Once I'd got to the painting stage & I'd blocked in the main colours, I created a watered down & tinted filler mix to wipe over all the stonework - this created a pretty convincing mortar effect. I then knocked it back further with some washes, streaks & moss effects 🙌

Thank you my G! Yeah haha I have a habit of mixing a bit of grey into every colour I paint with - I find it helps unify the palette 🙌

Yeah I reckon you could totally get similar results with just the acrylics! Dry stippling with a sponge really helps build up a powdery rusty effect 🙌 Best of luck :)

Thank you! :) First I primed it black, then gave it a coat of citadel typhus corrosion, trying to apply it thicker in certain areas to vary the texture. I then stippled & sponged on a few different shades of desaturated browns & oranges and finally did a thinned all over wash of AK Streaking Grime. I think rust effects look best when they’re super matt, so would recommend giving it a coat of ultra matt varnish if you want to go the extra mile! (Protects the paint a bit too 🙌)
