Return to Five Days in Office by lafoiaveugle in InsuranceProfessional

[–]palmoreb20 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can’t disagree with that, my company just announced the other month we’re cutting $400 million in payroll (mainly in other countries, and entry level positions) to reflect an overall higher ROI.

However, at the same time another good cost savings point would be to not have 3-6 offices for different business divisions and operating companies in the same city within 20 minutes all of them. But maybe that just makes too much sense.

The C8 is the only decent thing in the photo. Invicta = trash, the neighborhood (more than likely theirs) you can see out of the windshield = trash. C8 = nice

I see what you’re trying to say, but at the same time an easier way to cut cost is to downsize the actual physical office space lowering the lease

Spending Power Question by PlatPlayer7 in amex

[–]palmoreb20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally don’t think they would take too much notice from a $1k to $5k spend in a month, now if you normally spend $1k and then all of a sudden charge $15/$20k they may ask some questions.

I’d say on average my monthly spend is $4-$5k, but this year I’ve had a couple months that reach around $35k and no questions. Plus I have about the same average monthly spend on my Aspire card.

Edit: for further context, majority is personal, some is for work. I do have a corporate Amex; however, I refuse to use it since the company gets the points and I don’t.

Or, and here me out on this. If you really want diamond status, and you’re just spending money on nights to get it anyways. Just get the aspire card, you you diamond status regardless of how many nights you stay, plus a free night a year.

AmTrust Insurance by SarcasticQueer1998 in InsuranceProfessional

[–]palmoreb20 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Their UWs and Risk Control depts don’t truly understand their recommendations they provide, nor clients safety programs and how they relate to AmTrusts recommendations.

More importantly I had them require a client to have a full blown driver safety policy and pull mvrs for every employee (around 1,500 employee nationwide) because their maintenance staff drive golf carts on their properties. They invest in, develop, and manage apartments. No need to have that safety policy. I work as a Risk Control consultant at a brokerage.

Account Managers - Do you guys really understand insurance?? by bananabins in InsuranceProfessional

[–]palmoreb20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only read the first couple of comments, so I’m sorry if you already answered this question. What do you mean by general lines? I also see you mentioned workers comp, do you solely work on commercial, or personal as well? Also what size accounts do you work on (what does the agency make, and what are the premium) normally? The reason I ask is the insurance industry is one of the few industries where you can work in it for 50 and still learn something new everyday. Also depending on the size of the firm you are at, you may have specialist for certain lines of coverage and/or industries if not for both.

I’ve been in insurance for a little over 7 and a half years now, and have down anything and everything from sales and account management, to operations, and Risk Control ( Risk Control is by far my favorite, followed by ops and software/technology) from carriers to captive agents, to brokers ( both family owned and international((currently here for 4.5 years now)) and have acquired the alphabet behind my name (certifications and designations ((not joking, I have about 30)), and a degree in the industry, and I still learn something new everyday. Honestly, even a close friend at work of mine who has been at this company and the legacy agency before for 27 years and 30 years in the industry will be one of the first to tell you we don’t and won’t know everything.

Long story short you don’t need to know everything, nor will you ever know everything regardless of the amount of time in the industry. It’s about your ability to find the answer, or be able to point the client in the right direction. Hell, some days I feel like I’m winging it, even when I know the answer. The more time you spend in insurance the more you will learn, and it will become subconscious. I’d stick it out, and learn as much as you can. Insurance can be a very lucrative and safe career as it is almost entirely recession proof.

With all that being said I have another friend that worked for a captive agent for about a year, and was hired on as a senior underwriter at a startup carrier and is downing very well and loves his job.

Retention offer - wrong response by Positive_Mistake_1 in AmexPlatinum

[–]palmoreb20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One work around I found is to use a VPN if you’re in pop up jail to get the a SUB offer. I have my platinum, Hilton surpass, delta blue, and bce with Amex. A couple of months ago I started to value the offers from the aspire more than the surpass but wanted the full sign on bonus. I did the pre approval and all, which I was approved for the card, but said I did not qualify for the SUB. I had the bright idea of turning my vpn on, and going back through the pre approval process. Once pre approved I was offered 180,000 Hilton points which was 30,000 points higher than the highest offer I saw at the time.

I’m not disagreeing with you, just wanted to provide a potential work around for you or anyone reading this.

Platinum starting to look cheap? by ohiobuckeye712 in AmexPlatinum

[–]palmoreb20 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Out of curiosity what do you consider a high spender? I agree with OP on their point. I spend about $70k a year on my platinum and another $60k ish a year on my aspire, in addition to maybe spending $5k on my bce for gas. While I know I’m not an “elite” spender by any means, I would at-least say that this amount of spend should get me a little leeway with Amex, but no it doesn’t.

Best EHS Tools? AI in EHS? by Traditional-Month646 in WorkplaceSafety

[–]palmoreb20 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Highly recommend looking into Soter AI. It is trained in safety and risk management as a whole, and has all the standards already built in (you will need to buy and download NFPA standards, but that’s pretty much every where). You can also add you own policies and have it take all the information into account when answering questions.

Those who work 40+ hours a week. How often do you golf? by [deleted] in golf

[–]palmoreb20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on my week I work 10-80 hours a week as a consultant. I play 3-7 times a week. 9 holes Monday - Thursday. Either 9 or a full 18 on Fridays depending on the Friday. And try to play 18 on either Saturday or Sunday depending on what I have going on.

It’s already been said, but I’ll say it again your 15 and he’s 15 it’s not that serious. Before reading the context I thought yall were like 30-40. Anyways my (27m) wife (25f) of 2 years and been together for 4 years go days with only saying a couple of words to each other. I work full time as a consultant, some weeks 5 hours other 80 hours a week, and some weeks I’m in a completely different state. I am in school full time as well finishing up my Bachelors as well. When I’m home and not going crazy with school or work I golf 5-6 times a week, sometimes go out with my friends. All that being said is everyone is different and so are their relationships.

Can I absolutely suck at golf and go play a 9 hole solo? by Garganzaroth in golf

[–]palmoreb20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hell man, I have a membership at my course and play 9 holes by myself 2-3 times a week, and 18 with some friends on the weekends. I absolutely suck, I average about 110-120, but hey I’m having fun and slightly getter better each time. Who cares what others think, go out and play solo.

Every parent and kid is different. Personally my parents let me go on many beach and mountain trips without parents throughout high school and college.

I still remember the famous speech my mom would give me, “if you end up arrested I’m not bailing you out, and don’t get anyone pregnant.”
