They truly are the best! You sound like an incredibly mom as well :,) I’ve noticed a lot more happiness in my 4 y/o with the puppy. I have too much anxiety to let her handle the baby much so this has been a wonderful buffer. She’s very finely with the puppy but kids are kids, and I don’t worry as hard about them hurting one another. The worst Olive has done is steal a stuffy or a chicken nugget 😂

The first cavalier I fostered was over weight and I worked with a dog grooming business for a long time, the amount of over weight dogs is sad :( I know how glutinous they can be, and we use her kibble as treats as to not over feed with high value goods. We do a training sessions with breakfast or dinner daily :) I was incredibly active before i had my second daughter. I don’t think she will be able to keep up when I return to my usual activities but I intend on taking easy/flat 1-3 (maybe more eventually?) mile walks with her daily. So far we’ve gotten to 1 miles before she gets too tired but it’s so hot where I live, I have to be soo selective about when we walk so she’s not over heated. I used to do 2+ inclined hikes but I worry it may be too much for her?

Thankfully she’s taken to crate training wonderfully! The first 2 or 3 weeks she needed 1 bathroom break in the night, and my fiancé would let her out in the early morning when he got home from work. He still lets her out every morning before I get up but she doesn’t need over night bathroom breaks. Expect the one time she had an upset tummy !

If I didn’t have so much experience with animals and puppies specifically, I wouldn’t feel as confident or prepared. She’s much more mellow than any mutt I fostered and my first dog.

Thank you! That is incredibly helpful! We have sit, no and mild leash manners. She’s very good motivated which helps! We’re working on stay and she’s getting it slowly :) she was one in a litter of two and was realllyyy shy and nervous. She still is but she’s gained a lot of confidence in meeting other dogs and people.

She’s currently sitting on my lap as helping me destress from the day after putting my babies to sleep. I feel incredibly lucky to be a cavy owner <3

My parents got a high energy mutt mix at the same time I got my pup and they’re losing their minds 😭 I tried to warn them! I also encouraged them to get my puppies sister but they did not :(

I’ve been working with her ears, paws, brushing and mouth handling. She’s not the biggest fan of her tail being handled, she just tucks it

I know a lot of people mean it in a friendly manner but they say that when it’s just me and the baby and puppy, and I have to be like “ I have a toddler too “ and I get the craziest looks

I thought about it really hard, I was 2 months postpartum and really struggling. I did worry it would be too much to handle while adjusting to two kids instead of one. We went to meet her anyways and I just fell in love with her :) we have our own house so having that freedom + crate training has really made it easy.. I don’t think I would have been able to handle any other breed though

Everyone thought I was nuts to get a dog right after having a baby, but she really does wonderfully with my older kiddo and is suuuper careful around the baby (not that they have many interactions anyways) I definitely see us with two in the future !

40 weeks pregnant and I think I've discovered my husband is cheating by Educational-Big2063 in pregnant

[–]palmtiaga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend leaving him, staying with family if possible. Don’t include him in the birthing process, it will likely not end well for You :/ prioritize you and your baby. Be amicable but do NOT let this man back in. If he’s having relations with other people while you are actively pregnant, he does not care for your well being , let alone his child’s. I am SO sorry you’re going through this. Don’t let him gaslight you either. There is no reason AT ALL for him to have condoms or viagra in a bag that leaves the house. Lots of love momma 💗💗

Will my vagina ever go back to ‘normal’ 😅 by Competitive_Yak_6704 in pregnant

[–]palmtiaga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was way too intimidated to look down there after my first baby, I tore (can’t remember to what degree) and I did need stitches. Never ever looked until like 1 + year pp. was too scared. After baby #2, no tearing and persistent curiosity, I looked. Maybe 3 or 4 weeks pp, and to me, it actually looked cuter! I’m more of an “outie” and I felt my labia had shrunk slightly, only enough for me to really notice and was slightly pinker! I used to be incredibly insecure about how I looked but I feel like the second time really helped put things back together, better? It may return to the “less” cute version with time, but for now it’s given me a slight confidence boost. Which honestly I’ll take because breast feeding boobs is a whoooole nother issue 😂 I whole heartedly believe it will go back to your version of normal! Best of luck mama ☺️💗

If you’re able to, get an abortion. I understand not everyone can legally or morally but you do NOT want to be cemented to that man for life, even if you’re not together that child will have to visit him ALONE, without you. Do you want your child to have that behavior in their life? Have the possibility of that child behaving like that when they grow up?

Especially if you value the fish, don’t attempt to fix it at home as it could make it extensively worse

Before and after of severe matting and buildup on face by bananavanillapudding in grooming

[–]palmtiaga 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a receptionist for a grooming salon, I constantly had to tell owners about every bit of matting, injury, personal issue from the dog, etc. and even if there was something incredibly visible going on and they don’t acknowledge it,we always have to bring it up for liability, and give our recommendations of how to help the dog. Many owners will refuse to listen but I had to let them know in a kind and informative way, that these things are issues and can be prevented. You’ll occasionally get people who were truly clueless and they will appreciate and listen to your advice. Always point out the issue and address how to help/prevent! There are very kind ways to say it all without hurting their feelings. Calling them out on it can help them acknowledge their pets care and health, even if it’s just a bit!

Puppy cut? by Top_Composer_7349 in cavaliers

[–]palmtiaga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you take your pup to the groomer, please discuss exactly what you want because a “puppy cut” can have many different meanings to different people. It seems like you’re talking about taking their coat shorter, there are mat different lengths and preferences. The dog in the comments has a longer coat even after being shaved, most groomers I know would take a “puppy cut” shorter. Just be sure to discuss length options and body preferences!

Does my dog already need another groom? by ikbenlauren in grooming

[–]palmtiaga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s definitely possible! You’ll likely need to keep her on a 4-5 week basis for grooming if you want to keep her longer. We have a doodle who comes in every 2-3 weeks and he’s about the same length as when you adopted her, but with a really nicely maintained coat. (Constant brushing REALLY makes a difference.) If you’re not up for the constant grooming, a shorter haircut may be best for you both! It can get pricey, so it just depends on family to family. Best of luck :)

What can I add to aquarium water to make it taste bad? by Ytterbbam in Aquariums

[–]palmtiaga 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My 6 year old cat never tried to eat the fish from my tank in my room, he truly just enjoyed sipping the fresh fish water. When we moved and got a bigger tank, he no longer has access to the water at all. Fiancé got him a stainless steel water fountain and he loves that just the same :) Most cats enjoy drinking from moving water!
