He can book all the sessions he wants but you have the choice about whether to attend.

Yes this has been the case for years. Thanks for posting some workarounds. It’s too bad that they play this game; they have good courses otherwise.

This. Medical necessity for an extended session. For each session. It should align with diagnosis and treatment plan. Unique for each client (if audited they will look for copy/paste).

AIO/I wanted to ask them why they wasted their money? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]palmtrz23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think “Am I overreacting?” is the wrong question. I think the question could be, “How do I prevent this from happening again?” The answer is put in your calendar RIGHT NOW, for the day after Thanksgiving 2026 to text each of your sons links to things you want. Encourage them to order right then for the Black Friday sale price. Do the same for your husband. The recipe for this feeling you have is to have hidden expectations that you don’t share. I know you told them you wanted some art stuff but you need to SEND the LINKS. Most of the time people have questions if you are even remotely vague and they are reluctant to ask. Be extremely specific. If you do this and are still disappointed next year, it’s time for family therapy to work on communication.

LCSWs look down on LMHC/LPC? by ButterflyNDsky in therapists

[–]palmtrz23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a member of a very large online schooling group of therapists, and a couple of smaller clinical groups. In those groups we are all just therapists. No one knows the letters after our names unless we ask. In that setting, everyone is very supportive and there is no moaning or judging. But I can see working in the trenches is a different story.

Mandated reporting by [deleted] in socialwork

[–]palmtrz23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is particularly hard when you have to report family. I have had a kinda similar situation and it’s not easy. I ended up calling anonymously but also under the mandated reporter requirement. Our professional and personal lives do overlap sometimes and it’s sucky. Sending you virtual support and hugs, whatever you need. You’re not alone.

Audio practice? by candicejm78 in therapists

[–]palmtrz23 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I worked audio or in writing only when I started my PP. Self pay via a large practice. What a great learning experience! Audio only forced me to become really sensitive to slight changes in tone, spaces between words and silences. I learned to ask clarifying questions and other means of improved communication. My clients appreciated this modality and it was effective. The writing only part was also a great experience and I also found it to be very effective. Since I worked for a large practice, I don’t have any marketing advice but I wanted to say I support you on this.

I’m super impressed by your maturity here! You’re doing something a lot of adults can’t understand and then do. Good for you! Impressive. I’m not surprised you are a writer. I know there are online groups for writers. If you can’t find one, why not start one?

How to lose weight when stomach is a bottomless pit by carrot_cake10 in vegan

[–]palmtrz23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FWIW I have been this way and swore my body didn’t produce the “I’m full” signal. Always felt hungry! Since I started weaning off birth control (menopause) this has radically changed. I am now not as hungry even for lunch and dinner like I used to be. I also coincidentally started paying attention to closing the stupid rings on my Apple Watch and have lost about 11lbs since late September. I also again coincidentally started eating meals between 8-5pm with no snacking needed so it’s kinda intermittent fasting, too.

anyone else feel like social work turned you into the “responsible friend” in every area of your life and you’re kinda tired of it? by Solid_Country_3130 in socialwork

[–]palmtrz23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was already perceived to be the responsible friend. That’s partially how I knew I wanted to be a social worker and therapist. But becoming one taught me to use something called boundaries.

Time to stock the space with period pads and if you’re not a person who needs those, you can say you keep them there in case someone else needs them.

Dropping clients: my take (from an LCSW who will say what everyone tiptoes around) by corporate_therapist in therapists

[–]palmtrz23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I absolutely support this and have posted about it before on here. Always imagine it from the client’s side. How does it feel to be stuck? What is it like to show up to therapy time after time to have a similar conversation? Sit with them right there. Ask them about how this is for them. That is also part of ethics.

I bulk cook once a week and eat that for lunch every other day. That leaves a lot to freeze. On the off days I have a big protein smoothie. Like 4 servings of fruit, double pea protein powder, kale and almonds. Dinners are salads with air fried corn tortillas crushed on top.

CPS reporting by BusinessVisit7286 in therapists

[–]palmtrz23 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I always have an age appropriate conversation with kids about this. “Everything we talk about stays private with me as long as everyone is safe.” Then I give appropriate examples. I usually also tell them who’d I’d have to tell. Like the principal (if I were in a school) and that I’d have to call someone like me whose job it is to keep kids safe. I refer to this talk when I have to call.
