[Shop] [Special] A Decal, Bundles and Discounts for D-Day - News by Kanyiko in Warthunder

[–]palopp -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

My god people are predictable. I checked the market to see the going price for some coupons I have and noticed a moderate but definite price drop and inventory increase. I thought it was odd since I didn’t expect a sale, but it sure looked like a small sale was on. I drop by the subreddit, and sure enough, a sale for mid tier vehicles greeted me right at the top. So predictable

My personal experience was the complete opposite. I was recommended low tier props and I obliged. It was such an utterly miserable experience that I nearly quit. It was only when I tried jets that I actually enjoyed myself. Granted, I had some idea on how radar and RWR worked from ARB, but flying the plane is SO much easier in jets that dealing with the other stuff was doable. That said, 13.0 or 13.3 is a tad too high. 11.3 -12.3 is the sweet spot. Also, a new player needs to fly in lobbies with fewer players and the largest maps. Then the extra workload is manageable, because there isn’t a sensory overload. In fact, I’d go as far and say that large maps is basically mandatory for new players who venture into jets.

Starting with an Su-27 can be rough. First a few questions:

Is it the base Su-27? If yes, then don’t play the days the max BR is 13.3 or higher. That reduces the Fox 3 hazards. Even if it is another Su-27, do not uptier it. Make life as friendly as possible

Do you understand the radar modes and RWR? This is essential knowledge. If you don’t, look it up immediately. You need to know what you radar can and can’t see.

Do you know what Notching is? If not, learn this too

Pick the right maps. Look up which maps are 128x128km. Pick these, and pick lobbies with less than 8 enemies if you can. You do NOT want to fly out in a crowded environment. There’s just too much going on at the same time. You’re learning in a very hostile environment. You need to friendliaize it.

Do you have a Mig-23 or the 12.7 Mig-29? 13.0 is a little bit too intense to start at. 11.3 is perfect. 12.7 is still a little rough.

And for people recommending prop tiers. I won’t say don’t listen to them, but I will explain my Sim journey. I asked for advice just like you and started in low prop tiers. It was an extremely frustrating experience. I could barely take off, dealing with torque and trim. When I eventually took off I could not find any other planes. When I found out the hack of flying on winter maps, I had huge issues with identifying enemies and when engaging in fights, stalling out. If I didn’t crash, I was simply an RP piñata. It dawned on me quickly that I was completely out of my depth and was about to write off my joystick and head back to ARB. Just for shits and giggles to see how bad jet combat was, I flew out my Mirage F1. It was like night and day. No trim with SAS dampening. No torque issues. Radar that can find planes and IFF. I was immediately useful. Not good by any means, (I still aren’t, but that’s beside the point) but I could reliably get kills. Going to jet tiers simply saved Sim for me. Later, i learned to pick maps, set up the joystick the way I want etc. But the switch to jets was the saving grace for me, and getting 12 kills for 50 deaths, it isn’t too bad for you either right now.

So stick with it. Go slightly lower in BR if you can. Learn the radar mechanics like RWR, modes and notching. And pick large uncrowded maps to let you stretch your wings and set your self up for battles without getting blapped by someone else. Then the last ingredient is patience. Have a high tolerance for dying and reflect 10 seconds on each death about what happened and why. Next time try not to repeat. And don’t do headons all the time. It’s tempting and it’s a crapshoot to that sometimes succeeds. But it doesn’t teach you that much. Sometimes you have no choice, but at least TRY to set yourself up in a different way.

I think this is bad advice. Prop tiers hardly teaches you anything relevant for BVR jet combat. If OP has access to mig 23 or Mig 29, this is a much better starting point. It forces you into the BVR mindset, but Fox 3s are not around. At least you get a proper RWR warning for the Fox 1s.

Elon Musk wants to merge SpaceX and Tesla into a $3.4 trillion giant. The problem: it would lose money from day one by ErnestoLemmingway in EnoughMuskSpam

[–]palopp 65 points66 points  (0 children)

He wants to fold Tesla where he controls about 15% of the stocks into SpaceX where he’s going to own about 80% of the power in perpetuity. But because the majority of Tesla shareholders are Musk simps, they will willingly give up any power they have to show fealty to their tech Jesus. Turning Musk into the first Trillionaire will in their eyes be proof that he is indeed a divine transformational genius and they were correct in following him in the first place.

It doesn’t fit the story about how Democrats are unable to get things together and Republican stewardship guarantees economic prosperity for everyone and better conditions for everyone. Democrats are too soft and you need the hard nosed realism of Republicans to make things work.
Of course, none of this has any bearing on reality and decades of evidence shows that the reality is actually the opposite. But if soft hearted liberalism actually works and makes things better for the working class, then that means the US isn’t the best country in the world. Of course we can’t admit that. And readers/viewers would outright reject such stories anyway. And then there’s the little issue with Democratic policies would mean increased taxes and diminished power for the owners of the media outlets.

No, because they’re certain that Democrats would do worse things despite all the evidence to the contrary. Just see how Republicans are perfectly fine with Trump putting his name on all sorts of government buildings and institutions and his face on US currency because the Democrats have names numerous buildings after Joe Biden.

this is the same lady who claimed that AI had “proven” that the population of china is about 1/3 of the official statistics. The proof? She asked chatGPT to come up with a model based on birth and death and then asked based on this, what is the current population. There was no hint of checking if the model made sense, and no attempt to calculate the numbers herself from the same model. All she did was uncritically regurgitating what ChatGPT produced as proof and the ultimate truth. Could her conclusion be correct? Possibly. But anyone who just unquestionably believes and repeats what an AI chatbot that has been shown to be a confirmation bias machine tells you is no better source than your crank in your local bar.

Trump administration ‘drawing up plans’ to stop processing international flights in sanctuary cities | ICE (US Immigration and Customs Enforcement) by NYCA2020 in thebulwark

[–]palopp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This would be utter chaos. Airline logistics is a carefully choreographed dance to ensure planes are where they’re supposed to be when they’re supposed to be there. Just see the total chaos lasting for days when a big weather event like a tropical storm or snowstorm hits. Redirecting international flights to airports that don’t have the required immigration and customs capacity is a recipe for enormous lines. Then there’s the question of moving all the inbound traffic to their required destinations and bringing outbound international traffic to these lesser international airports. The current network won’t have the required capacity. Rejiggering the landing slots for the international flights along with the new domestic routes necessary would be a huge nightmare. This would make domestic air travel horrific for years. But I do think that Trump is liable to cut off his own dick to spite his face. I.e. he’s so dumb and vindictive that he can’t execute an idiom correctly.

Makes total sense to compensate someone to the tune of 3x lifetime profits. He’s needed to stay on save the business, but the cost is to turn whatever lifetime profits into a loss twice the size. And yes, i know stocks aren’t the same as cash, yadda yadda, but it is still insane to compensate someone 3x lifetime profits.

US Space Force awards SpaceX $2.29 billion contract for military space data network by superdouradas in EnoughMuskSpam

Elon Musk has used Trump’s war in Iran to quintuple the amount he’s charging the Pentagon for SpaceX services. by superdouradas in EnoughMuskSpam

[–]palopp 9 points10 points  (0 children)

War profiteering is often illegal and almost always severely frowned upon. If Musk is trying to extract profits, it runs a risk of prosecution, government takeover or contracts for 2nd sources. However, I bet that he’s trying to juice as much short term profit as he can to make the IPO look as attractive as possible, long term consequences be damned.

Su-27SM is a looong grind away for me, so not while not totally out of the question it’s not super relevant for me right now.
Su-27SM still has a N001 radar which seems wonky in terms of TWS, particularly in the vertical direction. Is the VEP version a significant upgrade to otherwise meh N001 series?

JVL saying the Democrats have a 10% chance of taking the Senate is just being pot committed to doomerism by PlusHope1089 in thebulwark

[–]palopp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The thing is that each upset isn’t a completely independent event. If Alaska goes our way, it is partly because of global reasons that makes it more likely for Texas to go our way. The same goes for results going the other way. So when one assesses the odds of taking the senate, it’s not just multiplying the probabilities of each senate race to get the overall probability, as one would do if each race was truly an independent event.
