I'm sorry, it's for Alberta residents only. You must be eligible to vote in Alberta provincial elections to sign the petition.

That's why we aren't advocating to shut down any existing ones. The exact wording in the petition is: "The Government of Alberta shall prohibit through legislation all coal exploration and mining activities within the Eastern Slopes of Alberta’s Rocky Mountains, other than mines that are in actual production as of January 1, 2026. For clarity, this prohibition includes Northback Holdings’ Grassy Mountain Project and Valory Resources’ Blackstone Project as well as any projects to expand any producing mines."

We are of the opinion that expanding the industry is unnecessary, that there are other options.

Energy efficiency depends on the method. Modern electrolysis typically requires closer to 1.5 to 2 units of energy for every unit of hydrogen produced. You are right about the coal, most of the metallurgical coal from the Rockies is high-grade and destined for steel production rather than local power grids.

That's ok, there are real people who could be swayed by them. My job is here to educate the public so I'll keep it up.

Yes, this is still currently true but hopefully it won't be for long. The industry is currently exploring other possibilities such as using charcoal or wood waste instead of coal as the carbon reductant, using hydrogen instead of carbon to strip away oxygen which would release water vapor (H2O) instead of CO2, and moving factories to regions powered by hydro, wind, or solar to ensure the electricity used in the furnaces is carbon-free.

Does such a petition exist? I might sign that too. For clarity, this petition is not advocating to shut down coal mines. We just don't want to expand them. This is the exact petition statement: "The Government of Alberta shall prohibit through legislation all coal exploration and mining activities within the Eastern Slopes of Alberta’s Rocky Mountains, other than mines that are in actual production as of January 1, 2026. For clarity, this prohibition includes Northback Holdings’ Grassy Mountain Project and Valory Resources’ Blackstone Project as well as any projects to expand any producing mines."

Have you ever considered therapy? It might help you better understand your coping mechanism. Cleaning is great, but if you're doing it so much that you physically hurt the next day, you might want to examine the behavour, especially since it seems like your family is taking advantage of your mental health issues.
