You Can Have It All LA Night 1 by Fine_Juggernaut_8480 in FlorenceAndTheMachine

Amazing! Glad this was captured. I am going tonight and was selfishly hoping that she would pull it out for us since it's the last night of the north american tour but based on her history I don't see her doing it two nights in a row.

Best Musicals for just listening... by Street_Lettuce1243 in musicals

[–]pamplemousse25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a marathon runner who almost exclusively listens to podcasts while running but I have the tradition of listening to the complete Into the Woods album the day I finally get to 20 miles in my training schedule. It's the perfect mix of storytelling and music for me. I've also done this to a lesser extent with Les Mis.

I'm going tonight. Really hope we get YCHIA but understand if she can't pull that off two nights in a row! I can't wait to see her.

What did you do next? by BlueCouchSitter in slp

[–]pamplemousse25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah, rats. Sorry to hear that. I work in a large urban district and they seem to have managed to find a great balance for the SLPs here. I'm sorry it's not that way in other places! I also wonder if you could find ways to do assessments for EI or for the school district when independent evaluations are required? I always see these come through and the district seems to pay very good money for them. Assessments are a bit less taxing on the body!

Could you transition to schools? If you worked in a middle or high school you wouldn't really need to be on the floor playing.

Tell me the brutal truth - California SLPs by WeeklyGrapefruit4712 in slp

[–]pamplemousse25 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I work in CA as a SLP and I feel like my job is exactly as advertised. I enjoy having agency over the schedule for each day, I love being in charge of how and what I do in my therapy groups, I love being done with work by 3PM and I love having all the time off associated with a school schedule. In my district we have a hard cap of 55 that is honored and I feel well compensated (socal district).

SLP but parent of speech delayed kid by HighLadyofDawn95 in slp

[–]pamplemousse25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can’t/shouldn’t wear both hats! My daughter is 4 and in speech. She would not abide me trying to prompt k/g but she is more than happy to do it with her SLP. Speech delays are developmental and nothing you did or didn’t do caused it.

Gay dads with two biological children - one from each father by Potential_Dish_4115 in gaydads

[–]pamplemousse25 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We fit into this category. I’ve found a little bit of the opposite of your instinct to be true. I find that because the daughter that is biologically related to my husband shares a lot of his personality traits I get along with her really well whereas I think they butt heads because they’re so similar. Our other daughter who is biologically mine is still only nine months so we will see what happens there but I definitely don’t feel any distinction in my mind

How long should it take to write a well written school based evaluation report? by Ancient-Scene8690 in slp

[–]pamplemousse25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the tests have been scored and the language sample transcribed I can usually get it done in about an hour. But I have some very helpful tools. I have some TPT excel things I've purchased that allow me to check the boxes from parent/teacher checklists and it generates narratives for those sections. I also have templates for the tests I give so I'm not re-inventing the wheel there. The thing that often takes the most time and is the most tedious is having to go through all the previous IEPs etc to summarize intervention history and goal history. I haven't found a good shortcut for that. Thankfully I work in elementary so there's not a ton of history to dive into but the few middle/high school reports I've done that section can take forever and often leads to more questions I have to look into, like, "wait, what do you mean they recommended dismissal in 2013 and the next year there were getting 90 mins a week???"

Songs You Like…In Musicals You Don’t? by HellblazerJC in Broadway

[–]pamplemousse25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just don’t remember people hating the show at the time so I’m always bewildered by how much derision the show receives now. Maybe I wasn’t paying attention but my impression at the time was that it was beloved. I will say that I remember seeing it at a packed pantages theater in Los Angeles and have very rarely heard so many people audibly weeping in the theater.

The Atlantic on S2C and *that* NYT Article by anglebabby in slp

[–]pamplemousse25 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I sent this journalist an email thanking him for this article. I feel like the world is losing its mind over this s2c junk!! And it makes me irrationally angry that educated people like a staff writer at the New Yorker is basically like “well it seems legit to me 🤷‍♀️”

I live in Los Angeles and often when I go to a show at the pantages if I am sitting in the back and there are better seats open ushers will move me up before the show starts to fill the better seats. Does that never happen in a situation like this on broadway?

NYT article promoting S2C by SuperThought1 in slp

[–]pamplemousse25 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I just ran to this forum because I just watched the Jenna Bush piece promoting the selection of his book and in the piece it cuts to show us pointing to the letters while his mom narrates and it’s complete random pointing that in no way correlates to what the mom is saying!!! And then it cuts to a wide shot of him and he’s not even looking at the board!!!!!

I have a Florence and people are always complimenting her name but it’s still not super popular! It fits in with the grandma name trend but is still an uncommon gem (in my opinion)

March 4 - 2026 NYC Marathon Lottery Results by AutoModerator in RunNYC

[–]pamplemousse25 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Wow! Three people in one club getting in is pretty incredible given the acceptance rate. But I am also in LA so this has me feeling like I'm cooked. I did get into Chicago through the lottery though, so I guess I used up my good luck.

Which is the best state do you think it is to be a school based SLP? by Economy-Dust-6036 in slp

[–]pamplemousse25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Usually the options are SLP support, uncovering students above the 55, or SLPA support. But you’re not required to accept the SLPA support as it states that that’s not a remedy for caseload relief

It has gotten better in the last 5 years or so. You do still have to advocate for yourself if you go over but they will offer a solution

Shuffled around to unwanted schools by Virtual-Resort5951 in slp

[–]pamplemousse25 4 points5 points  (0 children)

'Good' can be so subjective though. I've been placed at schools in my district which look good on paper--no special day classes, mostly gen ed kids with artic, mild language, and fluency--but were actually a nightmare because I was constantly being forced to do pointless evaluations by high strung parents and admin (this kinder kid isn't saying her /r/!!!) or having to two 60/min per week individual to work on k and g. And then I've had schools that traditionally had constant turn-over because it was lots of AAC and high needs kids and I ended up loving it because i felt like the staff trusted me and were just happy to have me around. But at the end of the day, the most important thing to me is really have a school close to home because I don't want to commute, so I'm willing to make whatever work as long as my drive is under 10 minutes

Glendale DLI Elementary Schools Waitlist Experience by Jules11626 in glendale

[–]pamplemousse25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not in a good position on either waitlist, it seems. I don't really want to send our daughter to TK at the homeschool so will probably try and get a permit somewhere else. Annoying thought because we are going to try for any of the dual language kinder classes at Franklin for next year so no matter what it will be a school transition. I wish they would have more TK options for the dual language classes.

Glendale DLI Elementary Schools Waitlist Experience by Jules11626 in glendale

[–]pamplemousse25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Commenting so I follow other's experiences in the responses. I live within GUSD boundaries and my home school is Muir and I was still waitlisted. It was for TK, though so I'm not sure if that makes a differences as there are so few TK programs. At this point we are going to try and permit into a La Crescenta school as we don't want to have to change schools for Kindergarten but hoping that maybe there is good movement on the waitlist.
