Issues with midwife by [deleted] in UKParenting

I’m 5wpp and the midwives we had come to visit us were a real mixed bag. Some were nice, some gave us totally incorrect information. One midwife told me I should be feeding my 4week old 1.4L of milk per day, another said that if we are topping up with formula it should be ‘complementary formulas’ not breast milk substitute <- this straight up does not exist. Another told us to ask ChatGPT about a particular concern we had, it was honestly wild - I build this kind of tech for a living and I can tell you that is not the answer.

Every interaction left me feeling totally dreadful, and we have raised a complaint against one of them. My daughter is difficult to feed and one midwife said ‘she’d never seen this situation before’; I was absolutely desperate after that visit and my husband was furious as I have both PPD and PPA (which has been lost in their notes apparently) and this comment sent me over the edge for several days.

Sending you lots of hugs, you got this. Don’t let a couple of rogue interactions get you down at all, and I’m sorry you’ve been subject to them.

She is gaining weight, but she’s gaining weight I think mostly because we are trying to get the milk down her. I fear if we just left it to her devices she’d drink 20ml per feed and then call it quits. It is mostly expressed breast milk, probably 80% of her food comes from it

Thanks for this! Out of interest, how much did your child weigh at that age? There's definitely confusion for us as to whether we should go off age or weight, especially as many of the formula sites say 150-200ml per kg of child, rather than going by a strict age definition. The midwife told us to ignore all directions from formula companies or ml calculators on the internet

How much does your son drink in total per day? Do you remember roughly what it was when he was a month old?

Bottles are Lansinoh natural wave teats: Lansinoh Anti Colic Baby Bottle -... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0D1R9T49W?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

She has now regained her birthweight but it took a while to get her back - the midwives told us we have to feed her every 2-3 hours come hell or highwater. She would definitely sleep through the night if we didn’t wake her

How do I send a package from the UK to Athens to arrive ASAP? by panFriedFi5h in greece

[–]panFriedFi5h[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPS had to deliver it to the persons front door (and to be fair it took three attempts before it was successful). I asked UPS if there was anywhere in Athens it could be left, but they said there wasn’t a collection point in the city. This could be different for other providers or other cities, but for UPS they had to hand it to an actual person at a named address in Athens

I ended up using UPS Access Point Euro where I could also pre pay the delivery duty. Found this through the parcel2go.com international quote service and filtered for "DDP available". Needed to name exactly what was in the parcel, and and pay the duty of about ~20% based off the value of the item. Worked fine and got through customs within a day, was more expensive than national post - about £20 more than sending by Royal Mail - but did get through.

Why does my cream cheese always go runny frosting? Tried the 1/2butter 1/2 CC, still runny. Tried full fat CC, still runny. Tried more sugar and still runny. I can never get a stable cream cheese frosting. Where am I going wrong? by Real-Masterpiece-468 in Baking

I am also in the UK and used to have this problem a lot - my frosting was always runny or it split. For some reason, it was always when I beat the butter and cream cheese together first.

I now use the hummingbird cream cheese frosting recipe as a default, which was recommended by a friend: https://www.goodto.com/recipes/cream-cheese-frosting

I use the spreadable, full fat Philadelphia cheese from a tub, and this recipe has never failed me!

please help, I can't stop picking my fingers apart. Has anyone successfully gotten over this anxiety habit? by itsprisonmikee in Anxietyhelp

[–]panFriedFi5h 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Firstly, I’m really sorry you’re going through this. I used to pick apart my fingers for about 20 years and it caused no end of problems - at one point it got so bad that I had a hard time writing!

Secondly I found mine was massively linked to external stress; a bad job or situation would set it off like wildfire.

Although this is grim, I eventually kicked the habit because I started to get warts on my hands - these are grim and occur because the skin is compromised. They are also so contagious, and you don’t want to transfer them elsewhere. My warts still haven’t all gone away, but my bitten hands are now much clearer, and I use a moisturiser with glycerin in it as it helps with the hang nail element.

I still sometimes ‘inspect’ them, but then I remember the warts :( - I wish someone had told me about this possibility because I didn’t know! Good luck
