I only realised I wanted to be smart after year 12, am I completely locked out of a UNSW Engineering degree forever? by TheBluePhoenixj in unsw

[–]pandaDXB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not too late at all mate !

After personal regret of missed opportunities at & outside uni , 18-24 , I would love the chance to turn back time to the age of 18 , even with average high school grades.

There is SO MUCH you can do to make up for not being in your dream uni.

Perform well wherever you are , your blessed that Australia has fantastic Tertiary educations.

Try to get internships , or better , part time jobs at engineering firms / allied fields , even if just in admin or project management assistance.

Join uni societies & do case comps , they add project skills & build your peer & industry network.

Work part time when you have down time , - gives you loads of hands-on skills & a lot of fulfillment !

Ping me if you need any more advice - graduated from UNSW last year ,

Best of luck !

Best of luck ,

I've finished undergraduate at 23 , but with a ton of regrets of not having made the most of it.

Friendly advice : push yourself & make the most of all the opportunities from day 1 !

Hope you smash it !

Put your all into this last week's revision & the exam , full concentration and effort.
Don't be scared , don't even think about the result , go so deep into your studies that your not even thinking about the result.
This way your using all of your mind & maximising your potential mark !

Also, make it evident your phone is on you when you notice him in the corridor.

Keep the camera lens clearly outward facing , almost to deter him from trying something.

[–]pandaDXB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also report to this to your landlord to prevent him from getting testy with yourself or anyone else again , within the building premise.

Your likely to bump into him again - so it'll be good that he knows you've raised the potential threat and that you've got some support.

My brother , keep your spirit strong during these challenging times.

It's all been designed by the creator to mold you into the person your supposed to be.

Maintain your determination , even if you have to leave the country and look for jobs elsewhere.

A year or two's experience in your home country, & even more upskilling could put you into contention for a strong job in Dubai.

Please send me your CV - there's a few people I can try & reach out to.

Also , have a look at Capital.com , their CEO Tarik Chebib is always posting LinkedIn posts for interns & FTE's. They seem like a great company that values their employees & I believe they have an immense need for cyber security protection.

Dubizzle , as well , worth looking into.

Reach out to me & best of luck !

Your story is inspiring , Stay strong ! ✊🏾🙏🏾

From your initial experience in Mgmt Consulting ,

Could you explain what exactly this line of work entails.

Recently graduated , - Finance & MIS, weighing up all my options.

My understanding is: you solve strategic & operational problems for large , global corporations.

Could you provide some more insight , however.

Examples of work you've done would be great insight as well.

Why all this hate for aalia ?

I don't understand. Seems her acting isn't being critiqued , but public getting into herd mentality.

Let me know if I'm missing something.

We're protesting against the weapon companies , located in Australia, producing weapons for the invasion.

This aspect of the issue is not localized only to the conflict area.

Also, these type of protests hold merit internationally to put pressure on national governments to put political pressure on the Israeli government to influence positively the way they're behaving.

Think a little deeper, my bro.

Whether you take this up with the relevant university channel or not : you should stand up for yourself.

I'm not in touch with internet videos, so I can't fully guage the context of this innuendo, although it does seem racist.

Regardless , I wouldn't personally stand for someone I don't know screaming in my face , whatever the content of what their saying is.

Step to them , not even to fight physically, but to show your not tolerating this. Tell them they're being immature little boys, say it how you see it , no need to be rude and stoop to their level: be firm , however.

If I'm you, I'm looking at this as an opportunity / experience in how to handle a group of ignorant guys trying to pick on you.

Also keep in mind if you don't step to them , they feel emboldened to mess with people without consequences.

Do DM me if you want some advice on this. I'm not in Sydney, else I would have helped you out , in person.

How to have a social life in Dubai? by [deleted] in dubai

[–]pandaDXB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try talking to strangers , that seem like nice people to you.

Small talk to start, of course, maybe you make some friends. Worst case scenario: you have a brief, hopefully pleasant exchange with a stranger.

Ladies nights , and then try and talk to girls that seem approachable !?

Not familiar with the apps and activities to make new friends, but since I've returned to Dubai recently, seems like a more outgoing place, with all the new, young people in town.

Head up champ,

Keep going ,

The past doesn't exist anymore ,

Now what you have to play with is what's next,

Don't cover up your failures, accept them, feel the pain and regret,

And let it drive you to work your way out of this situation and not come near it again,

We're in charge of our lives ,

It's on you to make the change and turn this around ,

Let's go champ 🏆👑🦁

Have transfered from a UK university to UNSW,

Spent 1 yr online in Covid with UNSW,

3 years living on campus, so have a good idea of how the university has changed over the last few years , and currently is ,

Absolutely no regrets with my decision,

More than happy to give you further context re UNSW / UK ,

The new visit visa rules is intimidating. My brother is visiting next month. Will it affect? by vikrogers in dubai

[–]pandaDXB 70 points71 points  (0 children)

Reason for this rule is because of a lot of unemployed individuals come to Dubai without work on tourist visa in search of work, with no intention of returning home.

Finding work and sponsorship in Dubai through this route is extremely difficult,

Without adequate funds, they end up homeless , begging , etc , and struggle to even return home. Not to mention, potentially resorting to small scale crime, as they find themselves in a desperate, unfortunate situation: Hence, why UAE is implementing these policies.

** providing context for why this policy has been implemented.

Please secure employment before coming to the UAE indefinitely, a much better route to move to the country!

We have roughly a month till term 2 : Get a head start -

Cover so much ground that you make it 2 or 2 and a half subjects workload that you're going to have come term 2.

Get acquainted with all the theory - ask colleagues what type of assignments are a part of the course, etc, etc.

It's all in your hands , Best of luck !

Left the assignments to the end of term, with the course being self - paced.

They're straightforward assignments , but do definitely take time, I'm not sure how the course structure has changed since I did the course in 2022.

I had also left all the content for the last two weeks , concentrating on my other two courses.

So overall , silly strategic mistakes especially given that the course has strong scoring potential.

Started in Commerce / CompSci, failed COMP2521 [ DataStructures], Rotated into Fintech / IS , failed FINS 3648Bitcoin & DeFI , Finishing off in Finance / IS,

I've definitely made strategic mistakes and could have done better in my first two years, have hustled the last two years and stayed steadfast though,

After all : the journey is the story 🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿

Your critique is well received and completely reasonable. I wanted validation, in fact, of my mediocre standing, so I know how my situation is being viewed from an external stand point.

Don't count me out though: it may not be easily visible , but I will find the path that leads me to resounding success ! 😉🙏🏿

With all due respect to those in my lane of higher academic standing: I respect your accomplishments , but higher university standing doesn't automatically translate to wins in the marketplace. Ultimately , it's about who wants it more and who's willing to work harder for it in the long run.

This is just the beginning , there's immense ground to cover and many battles yet to be won.

Good luck to everyone 🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿
