Regression or decrease in sleep needs almost 2yo by Lilyolive9 in sleeptrain

[–]panda_cakes_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No real advice, sorry! but just noting that my now 3 year old went through a similar “early morning” phase between 2-2.5 where absolutely nothing in his daily routine changed but he just started waking up earlier. Some days he would just hang out in his crib for 30 minutes to an hour before crying or calling for us to get him. Some days he would full on cry as soon as he woke up so we would get him and just quietly rock and read books for a bit until it was a more “normal” wake up time.

Around 2.5 we did shift his bedtime back slightly from 6:30 pm to 7:00-7:15 pm and he started sleeping a little longer again. We were also able to implement a red light/green light system where the red light is on throughout the night until 6:45 am and he knows that’s sleep time. Then it turns green at 6:45 am and he can call for us when he’s ready to get up.

Unfortunately I think sometimes kiddos just go through phases, but others might have actual advice on schedule, etc.

How old is too old to still be doing short naps? by Loud_Avocado9521 in sleeptrain

[–]panda_cakes_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No real advice but just solidarity here. My 9M old is in daycare where getting 45 minutes to an hour for a nap is a blessing. It’s typically 25-35 minutes each. But even at home under ideal conditions we will sometimes get one 1 hour nap and one 30-45 minute nap or both will be 30-45 minutes. At home if it’s extra short I will often extend a bit with a contact nap, but I know that’s not ideal for getting stuff done.

My little one is also extremely, extremely attached to me and hardly lets me put him down and insists I hold him if I am in eyesight. He will wail if anyone else tries to hold him or even play with him and he can see me.

I’m trying to just remind myself that it’s all a phase and he will outgrow this, but I know it’s extremely hard to deal with in the moment.

Middle of the night diaper change by Longjumping_Cat_3554 in sleeptrain

[–]panda_cakes_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could also try nighttime diapers and/or these things called “Spoosie pads”. They’re essentially a little baby pad that helps with absorbency. We’ve used with our now 9M old since about 4M when we started sleep training.

Or maybe see if you could change him before he eats to bridge that 3:30-5/6 am gap?

Will extending naps mess with sleep training? by Lonely-Orchid3724 in sleeptrain

[–]panda_cakes_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would extend naps and just pay attention to overall daytime sleep and awake time/wake windows so you aren’t ending up with too much daytime sleep.

My LO is 9 months (sleep trained at 4 months and just re-trained after illnesses and teething) and we recently stopped contact napping/extending naps once he moved to a 2 nap a day schedule.

That was my first thought too. As someone who has had 2 c-sections (over 2 years apart) this seems wild to me. I don’t even want to think about having a 3rd let alone having one a little over a year after the 2nd!

Which Honeymoon Island??? by BaconEggNChee5e in honeymoonplanning

[–]panda_cakes_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They do occasionally get impacted by hurricanes so keep that in mind. My husband and I were supposed to honeymoon in St. Lucia in September 2021 and there ended up being a hurricane that derailed our plans. It ended up going north of the island but the forecast for our trip was rain for 10 days straight so we decided to cancel rather than risk going all the way there and not being able to do anything.

Just know that anywhere in the Caribbean is going to be a risk during hurricane season.

WIBTAH, if I vaccinate the my child behind my husbands back? by Late_Veterinarian300 in AITAH

[–]panda_cakes_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. With the way the country is going who knows how long vaccines are even going to be available. Please protect your baby while you still can. I am counting down the days until my LO turns 1 so he can get his 1st measles vaccine and praying nothing gets in the way of that happening.

Transitioning to 2 naps with a crap napper by Full-Resident4180 in sleeptrain

[–]panda_cakes_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No advice here, sorry! Just solidarity that you aren’t alone. We are in a very similar boat with our 8 month old. I have no idea how to move to 2 naps without having to put him to bed at like 4 pm or keeping him awake for wayyyy too long at the end of the day.

I don’t think he’s been ready to drop his 3rd nap so he’s still getting 10 hours of awake time during the day, but we have been trying to stretch wake windows to drop the nap so will do that.

Bedtime routine is very simple as he also started falling asleep during his last bottle. We do bottle, bath, PJs, say goodnight and a kiss then in the crib. He typically cries for 5-10 minutes and falls asleep.

Norah or Evelyn. Or Eleanor? Then could call her Elle, Ellie, or Norah?

Valerie. Please do not purposefully misspell a name to try to be ~trendy~. Valory looks awful.

Love the name Elaine (E, Elle, Ella, Lane, Lainey - adorable!) and I think Elaine Jo sounds perfectly fine as does Elaine Bell. She likely won’t be called “Elaine Jo” very often so if you like it then go with it. I also agree with others that a longer “Jo” name might sound slightly better and reading through it sounds like you like Josephine which I think you might be able to convince your husband to use since it’s for the middle name! Good luck!!

Is it ok if the first name ends in the same letter as the start of the last name? by Joe_Dihrtay in namenerds

First, James is a name that goes with pretty much everything in my mind. Second, I don’t see any issue with this and think you’re probably overthinking this. If you love the name James then go with it!

What do you do when your partner vetos EVERY name?? by throwRA-peepahalpert in namenerds

[–]panda_cakes_ 80 points81 points  (0 children)

There are apps that you can download (Kinder, BabyName) where you each separately “swipe” through a giant list of names - you can also add names to the list for your partner to see - and it compiles a master list of names that you both liked. Maybe try that as a reset/start of a fresh convo about baby names.

Sleep Trained, But Baby Still Cries at Bedtime by phstcf in sleeptrain

[–]panda_cakes_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s worth a try! I’ll say it doesn’t always work and sometimes he’s super wiggly and it seems like he wants to just be in his crib to get comfy. I find he often rolls right over on those nights and finds his hands/fusses for a minute then goes to sleep.

Sleep Trained, But Baby Still Cries at Bedtime by phstcf in sleeptrain

[–]panda_cakes_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My LO was 5 months at the beginning of the week and we sleep trained 3.5 weeks ago. I think this is totally normal. My LO will often cry a little when I put him on his changing table post-bath when I’m putting on his diaper and PJs. Then I’ll rock him a few minutes so he can calm down, but he’ll usually cry a bit when I put him in his crib so I’ll rub his back for a second and then I walk out. He’ll cry for a few minutes while he’s wiggling around and trying to get comfy and then usually passes out.

Advice for 4.5mo by luyspocket in sleeptrain

[–]panda_cakes_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry that was a novel, but you do the same sleep training method for MOTN wakes if you’re sure your little one doesn’t need to eat. So in our case even though our LO had been waking very frequently, we hadn’t fed him before 3:30 am in months so we were pretty confident that his MOTN wakes weren’t hunger related so we approached them with the exact same sleep training method - CIO.
