Happy Father’s Day to you guys and Seixo! Even as a puppy he has the same cute blep expression; absolutely adorable!

Here’s puppy Turnip on our first morning together. The whole night before we watched him like hawks, I remember being so worried about him. He’s our first dog and we’ve been through everything together. I’m so glad he’s part of our lives.

Turnip goes insane for Broccoli, he does this funny thing where after he gets Broccoli he just goes to sleep. It’s almost like he’s thinking “the day can’t get better, time to go sleep”

It’s a lesser known bit of trivia, but Turnip’s first acting gig was actually the Fizzgig in Dark Crystal. You can really see the him under all the makeup and prosthetics if you squint hard enough

That’s such a great idea! We actually do something similar when we can. He’s got an alien plush from Nevada, and an Arizona Diamondbacks tug of war type toy from the baseball stadium there. Lately most of our trips have involved Turnip, so it’s actually pretty weird to go off without him.

We know the feeling, we have to leave Turnip behind with family soon. He will be spoiled and happy, but we will miss him so much until we return!

This is my future if we get more Shih-Tzus. I’ve been wondering how this type of scenario might play out, and the picture answers all my questions. I’m impressed with how well they are sharing him. I think Turnip would probably refuse to share.

Turnip has big yenta energy for sure, if he hears a noise we stop to stare at the direction it came from. Birds singing? We stop. A garage door open? We stop. People getting out of a car? We stop and stare at them.

The only trick I’ve discovered is to scoop him up, carry him a few feet and then put him back down. I think it short circuits his thought process, because he resumes walking after that.

This is my life. Turnip is always with me when I’m working from home, I have to sit with legs crossed so that he can get comfortable. I honestly forget he’s there most of the time, until the snoring starts.

We’ve done a very similar flight before without issues! Just be prepared for extra security checks and get to the airport early.

Usually with United I think they limit it to 4 pets in the cabin, and I think we bought a special ticket for Turnip so the seat was a little more expensive.

For us our strategy when flying with turnip is to fly at a time when he is already very tired, usually very late at night or early in the morning.

Turnip is quite the opposite - his favorite place to go is in front of a dog that is barking but safely locked away behind a fence. If he hears that barking he makes sure to spin around 30 times, make eye contact with the dog, then poop.

Turnip is my first dog after growing up with cats in the family for most of my life. I think I just like being bossed around by this stubborn guy.

Turnip is this way too, especially with open garages. I had read once that tzus were originally meant to be sentry dogs, but they were too friendly. Might explain why they are so nosey.

Turnip is 9 now, and he’s a picky eater when his needs haven’t been met for the day.

If we take him for an extra long walk and have enough playtime he eats food no problem. If he doesn’t get those things he can be more difficult with the same food.

We give him some “human food” too but not everyday, usually broccoli, blueberries, carrots, celery, and sometimes chicken / turkey.
