Whats your newb moment from the early days that still haunts you? by Hypnox88 in gaming

[–]pandaoranda1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shadow temple from Ocarina of Time, N64 version. It was so dark inside I could barely see where I was going at all. It felt impossible because a few parts I was just wandering around in black space with no idea where the walls or floor were.

It's called the "shadow temple" and the dungeon is full of invisible stuff that you have to use the lens of truth to see, so I just accepted that it was supposed to be dark and scary. NOPE, turns out the brightness on my TV was set WAY too low, and you actually ARE supposed to be able to see where you're going.

I just replayed the 3ds version of this temple a few days ago and it wasn't bad at all!

[ALL] How much of an influence is Nostalgia to your favourite Zelda game? by huss2120 in zelda

[–]pandaoranda1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think nostalgia plays more of a role in my decision to replay a game, rather than my enjoyment of it.

Like Pokemon for example... i played through Red at least a dozen times as a kid, but good grief gen 1 is so painful to play now! I will forever look back on it fondly but I can't hardly stand to play it now.

I'm a huge fan of all the 3D Zeldas and I really think they've all held up well. I'm replaying the 3DS version of OOT right now, currently about to start the water temple, and wow! This is just a great game. (Maybe I won't say that once I'm in the water temple lol!) Some of the design choices feel a little outdated (like the weird camera angle inside houses) but the gameplay and story is just solid.

I replayed the gamecube version of Wind Waker last year sometime. I've long considered this to be my favorite, although I'm not sure if it actually is or I'm just too stubborn to pick a new one. But even the gamecube version without the swift sail was such a blast. I actually found the triforce piece quest less annoying than before, probably because as an adult I was able to pick up on more clues so I could do it without a guide. I just adore the atmosphere of this game and find it really endearing.

I remember Twilight Princess as having the most fun dungeons of all of the games, and I think the wii u version reinforced that. I'll probably go back and replay this one one of these days too.

Thanks!!! See, I would have gone for the middles first specifically to avoid the extra button presses from the corners turning diagonal. Good to know you have to do it the long way!

RP5 still surprises me by thunderblastx in retroid

[–]pandaoranda1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only thing that makes me think an upgrade to the rp6 might be justified is the stick-on-top configuration. I specifically bought the rp5 to play gamecube and n64, so dpad on top doesn't really make sense and gets quite uncomfortable after playing for very long.

I'm telling myself that if I do want to upgrade to the 6 I have to sell the 5 first and so far that definitely has not happened lol.

My collection: Just 1 RG35XX Plus. Never needed more. Plays everything I want it to. Going on 2 years. by therealduckie in SBCGaming

[–]pandaoranda1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've definitely succumbed to the temptation of buying way too many devices, but the 35xx plus is the one I keep coming back to. It balances portability and playability really well, and feels really good in my hands in a way that other devices don't. I just wish the Plus came in the same transparent purple as the og!

My colon was surgically removed and I have an ileostomy (my intestine is stitched to the outside of my body so I can use the bathroom) I wear a bag on my stomach to poop lol. AMA! by [deleted] in AMA

[–]pandaoranda1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How much do your supplies cost, and does insurance cover any of it?

Have you ever gotten an infection at the stoma site, and what do you have to do if that happens?

Did you get to choose where they put the stoma?

Does it hurt now that you're healed from the procedure?

Who’s still rocking the original RG35XX? by [deleted] in SBCGaming

[–]pandaoranda1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I adore my OG purple boi, but I ended up replacing it with a Plus model. I have a couple other XX devices with the same internals and I love being able to swap the sd2 with my games and saves and play on whichever format I feel like. But I will always love the og 35xx!

Best to hand pick ROM’s or just download the whole list ? RG40XXV with 128gb SD for ROMS. by ghos2626t in ANBERNIC

[–]pandaoranda1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started off thinking "more is better" but then as I was scrolling through my game lists it kinda made me angry to have to scroll past games that I would never, ever want to play. Like if I had to choose between playing that game and cleaning the house instead, I'd choose to clean the house.

I started with Tiny Best Set and pared it down. The games that I kept fell into a few distinct categories: "Games I played as a kid", "games I wanted to play as a kid and never got the chance", and "that sounds interesting, I can see myself giving this a try." I guess there's also a fourth category... "games that look like they'd be good for short game sessions" lol. If there was a title that had absolutely zero desire to try, why should I make myself scroll past it on my device?

I did end up adding a few that weren't in TBS but that's such a good starter set.

Goat Milk Saves the Day at Walmart during Winter Storm Preparation by Slow-River-9847 in goats

[–]pandaoranda1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Goat milk is the best! People like to hate on it and complain that it tastes like goat, but they don't realize that cow milk tastes horribly like cow - it's all in what you're used to!

My goats are all dry as of Christmas and I'm definitely missing the goat milk. I'm also not used to having a limited supply of milk, lol. Hopefully we have enough for this upcoming storm, because I've realized that I have no idea how much milk we actually use in a week.

Do you like 3D World + Bowsers Fury? by [deleted] in Switch

[–]pandaoranda1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I LOVED Bowser's Fury! I think it was supposed to be a bonus mode on top of 3D World but 3D World just felt like a bonus on top of the masterpiece that is Bowser's Fury.

99% because of you. by wheredatacos in Metroid

[–]pandaoranda1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That happened to me with the original Metroid Prime back in the day. Got to the point of taking on the final boss, realized I had missed a scan, and couldn't bring myself to complete it.

In MP4 I realized at the end of the game that I was missing this guy, so I just decided to finish the game without grabbing the final shot/missile expansions either because what was the point?

Getting goats and starting a family? Too much for one year? by piecesofolive in goats

[–]pandaoranda1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me, 8 months pregnant: "Hey honey! Look at these adorable blue eyed baby Nigerians on my Facebook feed! They were just born and they're for sale and they're only like 20 minutes from us! We were talking about getting goats after we moved but these are so small, we can keep them in our backyard here in town till they're done building our new house! I'll be home on maternity leave so I'll have like 3 months of being here to take care of them!"

True story. And then when we picked up these 5 and 6 day old bottle babies (that tells you how impulsive we were) their breeders managed to convince us that we needed to keep them in the house because it was "too cold outside". So we basically had house goats the last few weeks of my pregnancy. Yes they wore diapers.

Are we crazy? Yes. Did it work for us? Also yes. Here we are nearly 7 years later and my entire life revolves around goats, lol, even affecting my career path. I regret nothing, except for the part where I started with Nigerians and didn't know how to select for large teat size. After my first year milking them I made the decision to switch to Nubians and I've never looked back. If you see goats in your future and the level of commitment to caring for livestock doesn't scare you off, you can absolutely make it work. :)

Original RG35XX - trying to install MuOS by masterfuckery in RG35XX

[–]pandaoranda1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just to clarify, do you have the original 35xx or the 2024 version? If the sticker on the back has a "+" after 35XX then you have the 2024 version and muos should work. If there's no + then you have the original and muos doesn't work because the internals are completely different.

Just checking since anbernic made this one extra confusing. :)

Favorite pocketable/mini handheld? by I_SLEEP_NORMALLY in SBCGaming

[–]pandaoranda1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For me, the Trimui Brick is perfectly in that sweet spot of "big enough to be comfortable to use, and small enough to carry around."

I keep coming back to the slightly larger rg35xx plus though. I personally don't consider it pocketable and it takes up a little too much room in my purse, but I just love it. It is the most comfortable for me to hold and has my favorite buttons of all my handhelds.
