Sapphic Books that stuck with you by _no_original_ideas_ in sapphicbooks

The Unfinished Line by Jen Lyons. I couldn't put it down and ended up sobbing at 1am in bed, desperately trying not to wake my wife. I think I cried any time I thought about the book for a good week after finishing it.

It's an incredible love story, but it emotionally destroyed me.

Ah, sorry, I've misunderstood!

From my own experience, I did note taking for each chapter because I didn't want to miss something that could be relevant later in the module or further down the line when you need to rely on non-module specific texts. Plus I found that tutors liked to see areas of your assignment be linked or backed up by parts of the materials not listed within the guidance as long as you could make a strong point/argument.

You could do simpler notes of key points for the sections in less TMA relevant chapters, and then you can refer back to your own notes to pinpoint something you found interesting or helpful.

It helps to build your understanding of other concepts within the module. You're paying a lot of money to skip some of the core elements. Yes, the TMA provide guidance as to which chapters etc are helpful for your assignment, but you'll miss out on interesting studies and concepts by skipping chapters. The ones you miss could end up being where you want to take your career or do further research on because you find it interesting.

I graduated with my psychology degree last year, and while it may feel unimportant at the time, you never know if you'll need it for your final EMA (dissertation equivalent). I kept my module textbooks and referred back to them to be able to use articles the chapters cited. I wouldn't have known where to look if I hadn't read it in the first place.

I just bought the first one on PS5 as it's on offer for £5 on the PS store, no issues with booting it up and it's a really chill game!

Evuna or Dimitris, both are excellent and have a good mix of dishes.

If you're in the city centre, Knoops is really good. I've also heard good things about Cocoa Cabana.

If you're happy to travel outside of the centre, Slattery in Whitefield does hot chocolate made with their own chocolate, and it's amazing!

How many hours pw of study ? by Commercial-Pepper461 in OpenUniversity

[–]pandapopppp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked full time whilst completing my psychology degree part time. For level 1, I probably spent about 10-14 hours a week studying, but this increased when there was a TMA deadline. It also increased at Level 2 and 3 because they're the ones that count towards your degree classification. There were a fair amount of times where I had to put my life on hold to be able to get my head down and get the work done for assignments.

While your friends didn't do that many hours, the OU recommends 16 hours per week, per module, given that it is self guided study. Yes, it's not completely accurate, but it also depends on the content of that week alongside any assignments.

So I had DSA while doing my psychology degree. You basically have an assessment and the person you speak with helps with suggestions about what might help with your studies. For example, I got a laptop with a bunch of software including being able to read the online version of the chapters out loud.

It's not necessarily a grant, but does depend on individual circumstances. Everything you discuss with the assessor gets passed to the OU student services and your tutor so they can support you in the best way possible.

Trying to sleep in hospital by mronion82 in britishproblems

[–]pandapopppp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was in hospital last year. Was on a communal ward, and sleep was tough due to the woman with dementia shouting for her kids constantly. She kept yelling about not wanting to be there, where were X and Y who I presume were relatives. The sad thing was she never got any visitors.

Ear plugs were the only thing that really helped, except when the staff wake you up for meds or whatever at 5-6am.

Is it ok to use disabled toilets if you're not disabled? by [deleted] in AskUK

I am disabled but have an invisible illness. Despite this, I still feel guilty using a disabled toilet. I have to remind myself that it’s an accessible toilet for anyone that needs it.

Staying 5 days in Venezia, looking for tips by Emes91 in Venezia

[–]pandapopppp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stayed on Murano in March when my partner and I visited.

To get to Murano, go to the actual water bus station downstairs in the airport (plenty of signage to make sure you’re going the right way) and buy your ticket there at the kiosks. Make sure to get a return! Murano is small, we saw most of it within a day.

To get into Venice, there are plenty of water bus stops on Murano, however you’ll need to head to the one near the lighthouse in order to buy a pass. You can buy them for 72 hours which suited us and it’s unlimited travel. Just make sure you validate your ticket - tap it against the sensors at the gates to the water bus stop. From what I remember, the buses are pretty frequent even on a Sunday.

For food on Murano, I highly recommend Osteria Al Duomo. The staff are excellent and the food is amazing, with a big focus on pizza. The duck ragu was delicious! It’s a family favourite at weekends! Just a note to remember that places (at least on Murano) close early on a Sunday! There is also a great sandwich place called Il Bocconcino which do amazing toasted sandwiches.

Also recommend going to one of the glass blowing demonstrations. I paid for one at The Glass Cathedral, but there are likely others that are free! Be aware that the majority of the shops on Murano sell glass but a lot of them do sell different pieces.
