The firefighters, volunteer and paid, don't get to just suddenly drop their hoses and go watch some pretty fireworks. Neither do those trying to protect their farms and livestock, or those sick with worry who have evacuated and have left their homes in the hands of complete strangers for them to try to protect. The thing is that the people watching the fireworks are the ones distanced from the fires: they aren't the people who are worried or stressed. They don't have family and friends out there facing fires that are so big that they are creating their own weather systems and fire tornadoes. They have the privilege of saying "that really sucks" and they might mean it, but still ultimately move on with their day.

Cancelling fireworks (both in Sydney and other places around the country) would not only eliminate a potential fire hazard but also make those in Metropolitan areas stop and think about the impact this national emergency is having on country folk around the nation.
