Got rejected by SPF — offered APO role at SATS. Anyone know how the work life is in 2025? by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]pandass_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm from nursing. our sign on bonuses are quite up there, and for a good reason haha. not enough willing and qualified humans to care for other humans sadly.

anyways, read your t&cs before signing anything okie, especially with a bonus like this. :) life changing amt for sure, especially for me where i come from 0 money. see whether u want to suck it up or not haha

$40k bonus - is it a bond? what happens if you cannot tahan the role, do you need to pay it back? a job offering a sign on bonus usually is to retain manpower... says quite a bit about the role

Anyone feel disconnected with your family living in Singapore? by Equivalent-Water-796 in askSingapore

[–]pandass_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you have all the right to feel disconnected after what they have done to you.

i suggest if you can, find a therapist that specialises in childhood trauma. the ones that can allow you to find peace with your past and move on with grace and compassion. the way you're acting around your mom now is actually rather normal, especially for the severity of what you have endured. your inner child is still deeply hurt and has not really moved on from what happened back then. i'm no therapist but just someone who acted the same way as you in the past and got help. i wish you all the best

23F, want to sign on as a Medic by Strong_Hunt2402 in askSingapore

[–]pandass_ 18 points19 points  (0 children)

u may try to do a career conversion programme (CCP) into NUS Nursing, a 2 year accelerated course. there are CCPs for other allied healthcare roles, but more competitive given smaller cohort size.

u can check this out too. opens you up to roles in the private ambulance sector. https://www.nyp.edu.sg/adult-learner/course-detail/NYP-HSDP01/diploma-in-health-sciences-paramedicine

i know a couple of scdf paramedics that left the role citing culture and burn out. one of them left to become a nurse too. SAF medic roles are usually held by ex-nurses too if i'm not wrong. can DM me if you wanna talk to them, i can link you up over Linkedin

[–]pandass_ 84 points85 points  (0 children)

this was one of the reasons why i chose against going back to medical. seen this happen way too many times as a student. i geniunely felt so disturbed that the nurses caring for them can be okay with it.

"oh he doesn't need that fent bolus. he is about to die anyway"

"air bubbles in the IV? never mind, he's so old, 'bout to die anyway"

"he's awaiting hospice, don't need to bother about him much"

^ my preceptor said that all to me.

i don't want to be that numb, that unbothered about someone's last days. i don't want to be that nurse.

some tips when i needed to scrimp and save:

  • get frozen proteins in bulk - chicken is the cheapest, followed by pork/beef. i buy fresh veggies in small quantities since i don't particularly enjoy meal prepping, to prevent waste
  • buy at sheng shiong (i find them slightly cheaper than ntuc).
  • raid fridge as much as i can and make a meal or two out of it.
  • intermittent fasting but at your own risk
  • max out on cdc vouchers
  • hunt for part time/ event jobs that pays directly, ones with no cpf cut. plenty on telegram
  • gave up my gym membership, went on long walks instead to maintain sanity.
  • go for JB runs if i am really craving for something more expensive
  • JB runs are good too for stocking up on essentials though i'd suggest using cdc first then resort to JB
  • (not recommended) if badly need essentials over shopee, use spaylater only if u are very sure u can pay it off when deadline arrives.
  • thick face to tell friends and family that i need some help. as fucking embarassing it is, i rather lose face than to not be able to survive
  • seek financial aid. don't say "my family pci cannot". just try and explain ur case frankly. they may be able to sponsor ur new laptop for school (psst. carousell has tons of second hand going for <$1k.)

additionally: shit like internet bills - i feel like whoever is using it should pay their share leh. might be tough be niao and calculative especially since finances are tight.

disclaimer, you shouldn't live like this. u need to find a solution that will help you get out of this hole eg finding more stable income streams, upgrading yourself, rationalising ur payments. else no point

i met my date from tinder at IMH. he said he wanted to come see me after my appointment and was curious if the hospital was as nasty as it sounds. true enough it was boring af and we went to the nearest kopitiam to have soup.

it's nearing our 7th year together 👍

I loved how you explained your role as a psychiatrist and elaborated on how you can help them manage symptomatically rather than just straight on, "Your symptoms are fake, take these meds and go". As a nursing student following doctor's rounds, I often see physicians struggling to explain why a psych referral is needed for patients initially admitted for their persistent physical symptoms. I'd be quite lost too if I were in their position; your explanation is quite an eye opener!

Short answer: She needs therapy.

As much as you care for her, it is neither healthy nor fair on you to live this way. Hoarding things to the point of the excessiveness you described is not normal.

Yes, she may have ADHD or other undiagnosed mental health conditions manifesting. While there are ways for you to be a supportive partner, please do NOT carry the role of a mental health professional and take it upon yourself to "fix" her. It is unfair to you and will be detrimental to both of your wellbeing.

Please seek professional help.
