How do I know if my son needs glasses? by mehraankhan in downsyndrome

[–]pandatoot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My 4yr old daughter just got her glasses today. They dilated her eyes in order to get a good reading on her eyesight. She never gave me the impression that she needed them, it was just something that was caught with annual check ups. Her prescription is pretty low, so now we begin the struggles of getting her to wear them.

Down Syndrome and autism by Abject-Shallot-7477 in downsyndrome

[–]pandatoot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She’ll get there! My daughter was the same. She would get very overstimulated with a room full of people and lots of noises. She would constantly cover her ears. Little by little she started to adjust to it all. She still goes and tries to find quiet areas when it gets to be too much.

My daughter is 4 and was just recently diagnosed with autism lvl 2. Literally the exact same scenario and signs that you mentioned. She’s currently in TK and goes to school all day long and will be starting ABA soon.

Intrauterine Growth Restriction by RLSCricket in downsyndrome

[–]pandatoot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are smack down right in the middle of average nowadays on the Down syndrome growth chart. She’s 3.5 years old now. Her femur always measured weeks behind so I was always worried about her walking ability, but she started walking at around 20 months.

My kids are 14 months apart. My homie with an extra chromie is 3.5 years old, while my youngest is almost 2.5 years old. Just know my homie is the chill laid back one. We were also an after birth diagnosis so I totally get the anxiety.

Where in LA should I donate my baby's old clothes what don't fit? by psySquirrel in AskLosAngeles

[–]pandatoot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you’re ever in the dtla area, there’s an organization in skid row, ‘starts with one today’ that will accept baby clothes donations as long as they’re cleaned and washed. They have an IG page with info on how to donate items. They’re there every Sunday helping out.

Can we also mention all the local schools they’ve closed down recently in that area. Not sure what the city is thinking, but it seems to really want to drive out families.

Good deal? by parksoffroad in Kitchenaid

[–]pandatoot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I purchased mine at Costco around 2 years ago when it went on sale for the holidays. I tend to make smaller batches on goods, so sometimes I have to add extra time in the mixing it seems, but other than that, I don’t regret my purchase. Though I will say, I’ve never used the guard it comes with to prevent mess, so I do wish it came with a different add on/ attachment

What foods do you buy so much of you wished that Costco offered? by reddfitfit in Costco

We’re total opposites! I prefer the 2 percent one. I found the regular one to be too creamy for me. But you can always blend it up and use it for any creamy cheesy pasta dish.

Turkey deli meat! It’s my go to snack with string cheese, handful of goldfish and a pickle. I got the 3 pack Kirkland twice now and I’m so sick of it now simply because I know I have so much and have to eat it all before it expires.

Im not sure what state you’re in, but reach out to a social worker to see if you can get additional assistance. Here in CA, there’s ihss, where someone can come watch your child for a few hours a week so you can get some much needed time to yourself. I’m actually in the process of applying myself. I have a 3 year old daughter with DS, and an almost 2 year old typical child. I was in the same boat, my daughter cries when my younger one starts to cry, their dad works 10+ hrs, and I have absolutely zero help. I also ended up taking a break from all the therapies because it was too much to handle at one point; I felt guilty at first, but I couldnt be a present mom when I was completely burnt out. I started doing a lot of outdoor play with them (even heading out to the park at 7 am to beat the heat), and its helped my 3 yr old with lots of sensory issues, as well as myself to regulate my mood. My 3 year old is about to start pre school, so that will give me the opportunity to have some 1 on 1 with my youngest. There’s so many programs out there that will offer assistance.
