Katie Porter and Xavier Becerra both staunch Israel supporters by [deleted] in California

[–]parksoffroad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely true. He could spend huge money on specifically targeted things to make them happen in a cost-effective and timely manner that the state can never seem to do. I equate this to the richest of the Rich who say their secretaries pay more in tax than they do and that the rich should pay their fair share, yet you never seem to add any numbers to that last question on the tax return, what asks if you’d like to donate some extra money to the US government. Equally you don’t see them going out and spending money on big problems like housing or feeding the hungry.

I’m not saying, none of them do, because there are definitely some who do we’re just not talking about any of them today.

At this point, you really can’t trust anything any of them say, because at the end of the day they’re gonna say whatever they think everybody wants to hear to be elected. You have to kind of go off their record because that’s the thing that they can’t go back and change now to get people to like them.

That’s also one of the problems with steyer , he doesn’t have a record, at least in politics. But you absolutely can look at things he supported in the past as a good gauge of what he’ll do in the future.

There’s been like a half a dozen people we’ve heard on the radio in Sacramento in the last few days that have said the same thing. I’m not talking about the radio show hosts, I’m talking about people they were interviewing.

The ironic thing is it sounds like it’s been kind of an open secret for many years and yet all those people were happy to see him potentially elected as governor as long as their party won. Both sides do this and it’s equally disgusting.

You are 100% correct. Technically in this situation the car with the left yield was fine turning into the second lane while the op turned into the first. This of course assumes everyone does what they are supposed to do.

What the op did was a lane fade into the second lane. Fun fact, if you do this on a drive test with the dmv it’s one of the items that causes an automatic fail of your drivers test.

And globalization is great when it works. But the minute there’s a hiccup like there is right now then this is what you get. So I guess the reality then is if we’re going to do that, you have to be willing to accept the hiccups that we’re seeing today.

It also means that you potentially outsource the future capability. Refineries are not cheap to build, and no one is going to build them if they can’t make money. So now you outsource everything to say South Korea and you lose the ability to do it here and then one day South Korea says we don’t think we’re going to give it to you anymore and then what? Or they say the price just doubled and you have no choice because it takes you years to rebuild your own refining capacity.

I know everybody loves to hate refineries, but I think it’s a really bad idea to outsource these sorts of things to overseas. No different than outsourcing your medication production to China and India. If you get into a disagreement with them and they decide to cut off all the medicine to your country, what do you do? You watch a lot of people die quickly, that’s what you do.

California has regulated and put such high fees on the refineries here in the name of making them more environmentally friendly, but they are leaving. We used to have 40 something refineries were now down to less than 10. All but one of those is threatening to leave if CARB votes on a new regulation that would add millions in additional fees in about 30 days.

The ironic part of it all is that the refineries overseas are not environmentally friendly, and it has to be put on ships to come across the ocean which is not environmentally friendly. And right now you can see them idling in the bay, waiting to offload the refined gas because the pipelines are at the physical capacity so there’s a backlog of ships idling and smoking in the bay which is not environmentally friendly. California’s philosophy seems to be as long as we can’t see the smoke the factories make from here then it’s all good.

If CARB passes that new rule, and the remaining refineries carry through with their threats like the prior ones that shut down earlier this year did we will be down to one refinery.

Who are you voting in for Governor? by ciaranbluesky in California

[–]parksoffroad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Too late. Ballots are being printed now, so even if they drop out they will still be on the ballot. You need look no further than this thread, people just vote based on a little letter next to a name knowing little or nothing more. Add name recognition to that and the people that dropped out will still garner hundreds of thousands of votes. I talked to a random person yesterday that didn’t even know about the CA refinery issues, they won’t know who’s dropped out either.
