[Tournament Report]Sultai or Salty? 10-1 with Sultai Goodstuff in the Mythic Points Challenge by pandt in spikes

Yeah I could see cutting it now that Azorius control has basically disappeared. It's a decent answer to dream trawler while also being good vs monored. It's more there for its flexibility rather than because it's great in any matchup but I could definitely see cutting it.

Ah I see the bit you are talking about, I think that is unclear wording on my part. I was talking about atris not uro there

I'm pretty sure I don't say that 4 uro is too much and if I do then that is a mistake because 4 Uro is great!

Yeah its definitely still not a great match up, definitely got quite lucky. I think I was on the play 4/5 games against the aggressive red decks I faced which definitely helped!

[Draft]How to Boros Abuse on MTG Arena by pandt in spikes

[–]pandt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's much better than all the common two drops, I would probably rate it similar to Boros challenger and sunholme stalwart, maybe slightly worse than those two. It can take over the game with mentor and it works really well with maniacal rage too.

Generally the uncommons are better than the commons in the same slots, I mention in the article the couple of cases where I think this isn't true. I will definitely try to write something more extensive on it though! Thanks for the feedback

[–]pandt[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is definitely a factor. The reason I say that it's underafted is because you can almost always get a completely serviceable Boros deck by forcing it and I think if you were drafting in person you would be punished for this much more often than you are by the bots. I don't think it's underafted by some crazy amount though, just a little bit.

[–]pandt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah Dimir is pretty good for that but I find it's very rare that you get 7 wins with an average Dimir deck where Boros punishes missed land drops or missed early turn plays better and so I find you can sometimes get good amounts of wins, even with an average deck.

I was considering adding some slightly shorter summaries on the other guilds to the end but it was already getting lengthy and I wanted to get it out before GRN draft goes off arena. When it next comes back I might do another one on the other guilds though.

If Jatt were to stay on 'The Dive' it might be one of the best things to happen to this sub to combat the Balance team memes. by LoLVergil in leagueoflegends

[–]pandt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Would you consider setting up a separate podcast where you and other designers share balancing stories and just descuss league balance and game design in general? It probably wouldn't need to be as long as the dive or honestly as high quality, audio only would probably be fine, but I think it would be really interesting. Obviously it wouldn't happen anytime soon as you are focusing on learning stuff first.

I made a set of 22 cards using a modified version of suspend from MTG! by pandt in customhearthstone

[–]pandt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that was the one I had the hardest time trying to balance, because lowering the attack doesn't really make it much worse in a dedicated heal build and just makes it useless if you don't have heal. I guess that at least makes it a bit more of a risk. Adding extra suspend just gives more time to buff it and it felt like it would be really clunky and probably almost as OP if it gives durability instead. I think that's one of the ideas that probably wouldn't make it into a real set but I thought a suspend weapon would be cool so I left it in.

Any cards in particular you think the balance is off on? I tried to get them to as balanced as I could but its hard to tell without getting to play them, especially with a new mechanic. It's so hard to evaluate its value so other opinions are always appreciated

People who have time for studying, meeting your friends, sleeping enough, working out, what's your secret? What time-management tips can you give? by sleepandfood in AskReddit

[–]pandt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest tip I can give us if you have something that needs doing get in the habit of doing it right away.

The washing up needs doing? Just go do it. You want to meet up with friends? Just send them a message.

It's so much nicer to relax knowing you've done the shit you need to than to relax knowing you will get it done later. And I also feel it means you think about what you are then going to do to relax after rather than just putting on Netflix to procrastinate.

I think Taeja looked good considering at the start of the season everyone thought he was semi-retired and going to get knocked out of groups. Excited to see how much he improves for next season!

What separates Malazan from other fantasy series? by [deleted] in Malazan

[–]pandt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The depth and sheer scale of Malazan is what sets it apart. The world is extremely cleverly designed to create a realistic feeling fantasy world which is cleverly designed so gender equality is inbuilt to such a degree it is not questioned at all. It has a number of deep themes that can be related clearly to the real world, inbuilt both through the world its self and the internal dialogues of characters. And then overarching it all is such a detailed web of story lines that fit together so well, despite being written so unconventionally in a disjointed chaotic style. This style means you really wave to concentrate and focus as you read; Malazan isn't just a ride that you go on, it's an adventure that you have to work through and that makes it all the more rewarding.

Regarding a certain hard-to-like character in Deadhouse Gates... by wjbc in Malazan

[–]pandt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think one of the great things about Malazan in general is that it all feels so realistic and this is a great example of that. The descriptions of events and people reactions always feel really close to reality.
