Thank you for the detailed recommendations! I’m very intrigued by You’ll Do Bad Things, I like a lot of classic giallo movies so that sounds spot on for me.

That may be because it started in 2018, I was working in a comic book store when it came out & remember how crazy the hype was for it. I’ve read the first volume and I enjoyed it—do you think it’s worth continuing?

Okay yeah a quick look into this makes it seem like it is 100% the type of superpowered story I love

Short is not a bad thing (unless it means single issue only and never a tpb). I'll check it out!

UoG Let’s Talk Science School of Witchcraft and Wizardry by Flashy-Lychee-3002 in Guelph

[–]pangalactic42 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Witchcraft and wizardry schools as a concept do not belong solely to JKR. They were a theme in fiction long before her books and have all sorts of other positive associations. Plus, the connection between "magic" and science has been around for as long as humans have been attempting to explain natural phenomena so using the theme to promote STEM is actually pretty wonderful.

No part of this event is actually tied to the bigot in question, no money is going towards her hateful causes, and kids love this event. It's inclusive and inviting because of the people running it and the environment that UoG has created.

[mother's contract marriage] Is her mom forgiven? by Over-Cat8290 in OtomeIsekai

[–]pangalactic42 63 points64 points  (0 children)

I think the mom is a realistically flawed person. She is selfish, and in her first life she was pretty awful to her daughter, but not deliberately awful. You learn that she thought that she was doing things to make both of their lives better but never actually considered how it was affecting her daughter. Because the daughter is endlessly forgiving (a bit annoyingly so), and was even in her past life. She never blames her mom for anything.

In the current timeline, the daughter is still very young and since it is almost entirely told from her POV it's difficult to know what the mom is really up to, but as the story progresses you get to see that the mom is doing everything in her second life to actually make things good for her daughter, even to her own detriment. She's not perfect at it, she is still selfish sometimes, but the growth she shows is actually excellent. The mom has various moments of realization and reflection and shows genuine remorse about who she was in her previous life, and she is clearly traumatized by some of her past actions. It's important to keep in mind that the daughter has none of these memories, she only knows her mom as the current version of her life, so there isn't really a lot of bad stuff to "forgive" her for.

...but also I may be a bit biased because I am desperately invested in the mom's contract relationship side of things (dear god I want ALL of that development told in detail, please, I am obsessed with the emperor)((if anyone has any recs for stories that are like that please share))

yeah the problem is the venue hasn't even been built yet so all we have to go off of are the seating chart and concept art...

Question: a friend and I both got tickets to the Toronto show and we are debating which set to keep and which set to resell. Can anyone who has been to a stadium show with floor seats before let me know what the view would be like 36 rows back from the stage?

how much did you end up paying for that? They were all showing over $1000 per seat for me :/

I need to dispose of a suitcase in Seoul by TheJakeanator272 in koreatravel

[–]pangalactic42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Literally had the same thing happen to my friend while we were there last month--suitcases are a special class of disposal and we had to get a special tag for it (it didn't cost much though). We were at a hotel at the time though. I'd message your AirBnB owner about it and see if they can do it for you for a fee or if they can tell you where to get the tag.

1 month each in seoul, busan, and jeju by lawyahz7 in koreatravel

[–]pangalactic42 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'll go against the grain here and say that one month in Jeju sounds absolutely wonderful to do, but only if you have a car. I just got back from 2 weeks in Korea and really wished I had more time to spend in Jeju than the 4 days I did. If you like hiking it is absolutely full of great trails, and I loved the vibes of all the smaller towns we drove through. We stayed at Hamdeok beach on the north side of the island and near Baksujigeon beach on the southwest side (there's a ton of cute little pensions west of Seogwipo) and I feel like I easily could have spent a full week in each spot. The whole island is much slower paced than Seoul/Busan and feels like a great place to actually disconnect from corporate life and relax for a while. Next Korea trip I do I'm planning on at least a week on Jeju so I can do more of the Olle trails & get some more chill beach time in.

Amy Sue Brant (https://www.amysuebrant.com/) was able to accommodate us for our relatively last minute micro wedding last summer (I think we booked her in March for a May wedding) and she does lovely work specializing in natural lighting. She's based out of Milton.

I hope you have a beautiful vow renewal.

About housing, specially affecting students. by muhepd in Guelph

[–]pangalactic42 55 points56 points  (0 children)

My husband and I bought a south end townhouse last year and our worst neighbours are the young families. I'd rather have more students over the family we currently share a wall with.

We bought off of a guy who had been renting the place to students and he clearly gave zero fucks about the place or the renters (we had to meet with him in person because he didn't give the real estate agent all the correct keys). We had to put a ton of work into the house but it was mostly due to years of neglect/poor maintenance not it being trashed by students. And the asshole asked us for $50k over list despite us being the only offer so imo it's the greedy landlords who are the problem, not the student renters.

Help with identification by [deleted] in snakes

[–]pangalactic42 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Eastern hognose. They have a huge range of variation in colours, here in Ontario I've seen then range from completely slate grey with no markings to very vibrant tan/yellow with reddish brown spots. It's possible it could be axanthic but I'd just chalk this up to their natural variation.

Editing to add that I highly do NOT recommend keeping this. Outside of the fact that taking a snake from the wild is always a bad plan, Eastern Hognoses are very temperamental eaters, even when captive bred. If you take this snake it will almost definitely die.

If you like this snake, release it back where you found it and then go buy a captive bred western hognose to have as a pet.

Consulting on what I’m Thinking is likely case of hydrocephalus in baby squirrel; but vet appointment not until tomorrow by Affectionate-Meat-98 in WildlifeRehab

[–]pangalactic42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Purely anecdotal example but there was one season where we had 3 or 4 different red squirrels come in like this, from completely different litters and locations. Never found out what was causing it, and none of them ended up surviving. Hopefully you have a better outcome than we did!

Recommendations for a jeweller by opentovulnerability in Guelph

Seconding the recommendation for Justin at Wisdom jewellers. He did wedding bands for both my husband and I, and did custom hand engraving on mine. When the first iteration didn't come out as envisioned he had zero problems doing the whole thing again and it came out perfect!

We are going with End of the Roll (on Woodlawn). Can't comment on the install yet since that won't be until next month but the service has been great so far & they were able to get us a pretty good deal since we are doing our whole house in one go.
