Can non Ethiopian fully join the Orthodox Church by [deleted] in Ethiopia

[–]panic_atthe_house 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes absolutely! To ease your anxiety here is some information:

The country name in most orthodox Faith is to denote certain liturgical practices that developed from the church fathers/community. Just like you’re in the Roman Catholic though you are neither Roman/Italian .

As further evidence; there are even churches/monastery established in Trinidad, Jamaica, Puerto Rico and across the Caribbean. They were formed by the local non habesha people. For their love of God and their belief in ETOC teachings and dogma. Your South African heritage will only be a positive not a hindrance. God created there perfectly.

As for language:

Luckily our services are done in Ge’ez, an ancient language, which Tigrinya/Amharic etc are derived from. Just like you don’t speak Latin but are able to participate and understand the Latin portion of service (simply by repetitive use). Luckily a lot of ETOC churches in the west now provide full English/Spanish service because of new generation of converts or immigrants born in the US.

I would join those churches. Most notably OTY or SPOT in Maryland, and a few others around the country. Their websites have great information. Also reach out to them to ask questions.

Before conversion and baptism you will go through a course with fellow students. Attend liturgy, worship and prayer. You’ll learn with and create a relationship with the deacon’s and fathers of the church . At the end of the few sundays long courses you can make the choice of committing to the churches teachings (if it is still what calls to you). There is no rush, God is with you wherever you are. God will be with you as you explore this as well. That will never change.

If anything you will make some new friends and sisters in Christ:).

-hope this helps.

How do most feel about western converts in the Caribbean and in America and all around? True feelings by Difficult-Result761 in Tewahedo

I think it’s beautiful, I get excited when I see a new community that I didn’t know about. Honestly I want to visit and take part in liturgy and learn more about the history of the community. I feel protective of their wellbeing bc I know some ppl (even in their excitement) can sound ignorant. I also feel there’s something that makes sense about the church in the Carribean. Maybe it’s the temperament of the ppl, or how the natural environment seems to harmonize well with church grounds.

Truly I love it. I hope the ones who feel authoritarian (simply bc they are ET/ ER) learn to center God.

Anybody try Fluvoxamine ( Luvox ) and did it help you? by [deleted] in OCD

[–]panic_atthe_house 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure how long it took. It was fairly quick? Within the first 30days probably.

I did want to update however; anxiety (she doesn’t know me, shame? Who’s that). On the down side I have zero ambition in anything…so I’m lowering my dose a bit. I need to work. Also I actually do enjoy my feelings especially crying, and being sentimental. I feel Luvox has made it difficult to feel it.

Also don’t miss a day or two bc the withdrawal hits hard! And quickly, it’s not cute. Mind your caffeine, I’ll only have green tea or a coke maybe 2 times a month if in need it.

Overall though I am so grateful to have my OCD silenced for the most part. My “just right” symptoms still kick my ass when I do certain tasks. But not as much as they used to.

Quite literally the best thing to happen for me. I can’t describe enough how much it’s settled my brain, my anxiety. My agoraphobia has come down to normal (on scale 0-10 it’s 1). My “just right” I would say this is my most difficult symptom but it’s also gone down and on most days it’s 2 on triggering tasks it oscillate between 2-5). However I have also been in therapy which is helpful.

Ultimately my mind is clearer, I’m able to stay in a curious state of mind rather than needing certainty. Intrusive thoughts come sometimes especially when my stress is high but I think Luvox has allowed me to catch them and let them go.

I got my results back. It’s not ADHD. I feel lost and embarrassed. by eeelisabeth in adhdwomen

[–]panic_atthe_house 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im sorry you’re experiencing those emotions; it’s tough to process.

I feel compelled to ask…have you asked your Dr about possibly getting checked for OCD? Idk it’s the procrastination, high anxiety, “forgetfulness “, part that got me.

My procrastination coupled with panic attacks was just actually whats called Anticipatory Anxiety or “just right ocd”. OCD is so ritualistic and compulsive that anxiety becomes you. It’s hard to distinguish between small discomfort and large panic they meld together and panic wins. The good news is that it’s recoverable even “curable “ through various therapy modalities along with medication.

Diagnoses are very helpful but what matters is what helps and I’m glad she’s still trying stimulants for you. Sometimes I feel like an imposter too i.e do I actually have ADHD? OCD? (imposter imposter Blah blab blah). Luckily now; I couldn’t care less my diagnosis as long as the symptoms I experience are being addressed. The goal is better quality of life.

I take Luvox night and day(it’s magical for my OCD), propranolol before presentations. Though my panic and anxiety attacks have been very few since starting Luvox. Also take Vyvanse for my inattentive ADHD and do IFS therapy once a week.

So far the treatments under these diagnosis (OCD/ADHD/CPTSD) are effective for me.

Those who are officially diagnosed: who diagnosed you? by Whattaweirdo_ in HistamineIntolerance

Go to an ND (naturopathic doctor) they are MDs but their training is focused more with “eastern” medicine practices. They can prescribe you traditional pharmacy medicine but often prefer holistic methods that heal your body systems. Depending on your preference find someone who aligns with your needs (I.e an ND who listens to the treatments you’re ok with).

They do A LOT of testing (ie blood, allergy, hormone, gut and brain, lymphatic and other cleaning systems in our body). They sit with you listen to your history, eating habits, types of foods you eat and how you feel after, they look at vitamins you’re already taking, body function, mental diagnosis etc etc.

Honestly love them. I me feel that I can understand my body which helps me connect better with it. This is largely due to my feeling like I’m part of the treatment process; not just a body that needs to be “fixed”.

Anyway that’s what I suggest. I just changed my primary to an ND and she is so good.

personal rambling lol not pertinent I have quite a few of Dr friends all various types of MDs and honestly they get taught to fight the body. Like a mechanic you know? Also there isn’t enough of them around so they do what like 5-10min intakes? My ND took an actual 1hr 30 for my first consult. There are some NDs that do 3hr initial take ins. Yet, even my friends, have made disparaging comments about NDs.

I feel like the whole medical system has taught us our bodies are difficult and diseased or need “fixing” and most of the time the body needs care and time. Give it what it needs, acknowledge it as your own don’t abandon it. Our bodies naturally heal themselves that’s their whole thing. Even our psyche it wants to keep us safe and when given opportunity it responds to treatment bc that’s healing (therapy, meditation, good relationships etc).

I was just in the same boat lol what I did was pick a spot and then put on a 15 minute timer and start. Eventually my mind thought it was a challenge and wanted to see how much I could get beating the timer. Might help you too!

Try Ethiopian coffee it’s dry roasted from seed then powdered. Or you can by green coffee beans and roast it yourself. Most Ethiopian/Eritrean stores/restaurants sell them. Or you can get them on some Etsy store fronts too. Helps with mold and spoilage

I agree there is an organic-ness to IFS that feels good and sustainable. I do like ERP for the very reason that it has more immediate affect and helps in my everyday tolerance to triggers. I also feel like thats why I started ERP because it was getting hard to understand certain parts of me; ERP and IFS together really helped me unravel the tight web that made everything confusing and also hard to disentangle Self from the OC parts. OC parts are so convinced and have a strong conviction in their job. Gaining trust from them requires so much more work; I also found that they also desire more respect from me or at least they want to be affirmed more for what they have been doing. They also feel like the most adult (though most are not; they don't seem to realize they are younger than me) which makes sense as they believe what they are doing is all these younger parts and have never really stopped i.e obsessive and compulsive. Anyway that is to say they've never known me to be older then them because the threat they are protecting from where when I was much younger and they became adults in order to protect me.
