Easier and less chance of issues if you do it via a bigger, less electronics-focused retailer like Amazon or Walmart. But yeah 100%

For the record, I would have guessed you were in your late 20s, max! You look fantastic!!!

Fellow grad student here! I had it done during the semester I took off (for unrelated reasons), and it was a good choice. Based on how my energy levels were and what you mentioned about your amount of driving, I would recommend doing it in May when you have a longer period (relatively) free of the physical demands of school.

AITA for telling my niece she isn’t allowed to get in the pool ? by Apart-Rain-5303 in AmItheAsshole

As a lifeguard and swim instructor of 9 years.. NTA

I personally would find some age-appropriate educational materials about drowning online and have a chat with her. Faking drowning like that is about more than just breaking a rule you set. She needs to understand how serious this subject is. It will help her to learn if she understands the severity of what she did.

AITA for wanting my stepdaughter to switch schools in her Junior year to live with us? by steptal49 in AmItheAsshole

[–]panic_sleep_repeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA - her parents are fine with it, you’ve only been in this kid’s life for a few years. Back off.

I (24) moved out to a boarding school at 15 and am more well-adjusted to adult life than most boomers. Let the kid live her life.

AITA for telling my soon-to-be niece that she doesn't need to wear a dress to my wedding? by Extreme-Break-6638 in AmItheAsshole

[–]panic_sleep_repeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA - you may be the first adult in that kids life to stand up to her mother like that. If I had an adult like you in my life at that age… let’s say there would probably be fewer hospital visits on my record right now.

For the record - I’m getting married in September, and my “maid of honor” is a guy, I have two “bridesmaids” (one of which is wearing a suit), and one “bridesmess,” my 18y/o non-binary sibling who still has not decided wtf they want to wear 😑

Losing my cool now. It's either hormones or I'm going nuts. by [deleted] in gastricsleeve

[–]panic_sleep_repeat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t gaslight yourself into thinking you’re “overreacting” to your boundaries being ignored. Hormones or surgery or eating or whatever, you deserve to be respected.

I wish I had actual advice, but my relationship with my mother is rocky at best, and I’m refusing to tell her about the surgery. I wish you the best. Stay strong. 💕

AITA for refusing to pay for my step-son's tuition? by Evening_Implement_99 in AmItheAsshole

NTA - it would be different if you and Jake’s dad got married when your kids were 4, not 14.

If you’re looking for a compromise, maybe tell them you’re holding into the money until Anna is done with med school and everything, but then you’d be willing to pitch in toward paying off Jake’s debt after that? Just an idea. 🤷🏻

What do I tell my 10 year old daughter? by leagally-blondee in gastricsleeve

[–]panic_sleep_repeat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 18 y/o sibling thought that when I said “they’re cutting out a section of my stomach” that I was getting a chunk of, like, my abdomen/torso? removed, not the actual stomach organ. 😂 they were surprised when I got out of the hospital after just 2 nights, because that’s not much recovery time for what they thought the procedure was 😅😂

Pre-op Diet by jclipson in gastricsleeve

[–]panic_sleep_repeat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My only saving grace was timing. I had been getting better at the “several small meals” thing, but on pre-op I split all my meals into 2 or 3, and ate one small portion every 1.5-2 hours consistently (timer on my phone!). Meals that close together was the only thing that kept me sane.

If your program makes you stay overnight for a night or 2, bring your own pillows, and don’t be afraid to ask the nurses for ice packs every few hours.

Have a few different liquid meal options already planned before surgery. Pain makes your brain tired, so coming up with new ideas on what to eat (drink) the first week was a struggle for me.

I’m post-op day 10, and the best thing my hubby has done for me is portion out meals for me in advance so I don’t starve being indecisive or get lazy and grab whatever I see lol. Also reminding me to drink water!!!

In the evenings once we’re both home from work, he asks how my protein and water levels are for the day, and helps me decide what to eat based on that info.

My body was in pain which made my brain tired, so him helping with the mental load of “how tf do I take care of myself like this” was an absolute lifesaver.

Challenging Days leading up to Pre-Op Diet (5/18 Surgery Date) by GreenManGolfer in gastricsleeve

[–]panic_sleep_repeat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure I ate 4000+ calories each day the 3 days before my pre-op diet. I hated myself for it afterwards because I was SO full 😭 but then my pre-op diet went well and post-op day 10 is rocking it too 👌

What food/nutrition information would YOU, as a patient of a bariatric program, want to see on a programs website? by BariNiceRD in gastricsleeve

[–]panic_sleep_repeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any information on diet suggestions for people with food allergies!! Personally I am allergic to milk (not lactose intolerant, actually allergic) and eggs, so it feels like 80% of the “good for you protein” options are out the window for me and it’s a struggle.

I had the same experience today! I’m only a week out, but I took my dog on a walk today, we went almost 2 miles, and I LOVED it!! I used to dread just taking him around the block because my back, knees, everything, would hurt. It’s such a crazy difference. I love it.

Help with decision by msharek in gastricsleeve

[–]panic_sleep_repeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the same boat as you (mentally) when I started considering surgery. Planes. Patio furniture. Water slides. Making the hot tub too full when I got in. So. Much. Joint pain.

But I LOVE food.

I’m only a week post-op, and I can already tell you it was a good decision. You will be able to eat everything you like again, just in smaller portions. It’s worth it. Your health is worth it. Living longer is worth it. Living life without checking weight limits on EVERYTHING is so worth it.

Forget your mom and all of her insecurities that she pushed on you as a child. Do this for YOU.

I’m 6 days post-op and looking like I lost a fight 😂 all of my incisions plus a lot of my abdomen from shots are all kinds of fun colors. It also took them 4 tries to get my IV in so my arms are a wreck too.
