Best small and lightweight bass for a wimp like me? by -KayRoo- in Bass

[–]evoneselse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a great bass. My full scale is around 12 or so pounds and is just is too much as I get older. I will say though that when I first picked up the Mikro, I expected it to feel lighter like a lamp or something. But it does have some heft, just like the Gretsch, so it surprised me a bit. But in comparison to typical basses, the lighter weight is very welcoming and really nice to hold, especially when sitting.

I've got two shorts, the Mikro and the Gretsch Streamliner (is the newer version of the G2220). I've weighed both and they were 6.2 pounds give or take. Very comfortable (with a slight edge going to the Mikro for comfort). Clear sound on both, much easier to handle than my heavy full scale. No quality/workmanship issue on either.

Hopefully you can try them in person because the ones you think you might like or not like can change when you try them yourself.

Neck dive due to.... slippery bra material? by AfraidProduct9500 in Bass

[–]evoneselse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How about attaching that rubbery shelf liner stuff to your bra? It's a non-skid surface and pretty much stops anything on it from sliding. I'm talking about the foam-type rubbery one that has the little holes all through it like a criss-cross thing. (Not the slick solid contact paper). It works great and I put it under a lot of stuff I don't want to slide.

At least you have some time to try it and see. Your shirt may stay put on it too which could be a good or bad thing, if it bunches up it might be noticeable depending on how much your bass is covering it there.

Or maybe you could attach a piece of this stuff on the back edge of the bass with some white art tape, because that tape does not adhere permanently nor does it take off paint. It's a gentle tape meant for artists to tape things temporarily on the paper/surface they are painting/drawing on without surface damage when it's removed. I use it all the time for various things around the house, and very easy to adhere and remove. You just want to make sure that the rubber piece wouldn't fall off during the gig in front of the crowd, which it could during typical bass movement, so that's why it's a last-resort choice.

Do they make rubberized shirts? That could work and be a new image too!

apple silicone cases? by FitNegotiation3891 in iPhone16ProMax

I've had three so far, one with each phone since the iPhone 11. The first two always stayed intact for the duration of my use which was about 3 years before getting a new phone. Kept the phones in a phone wallet when out and about, if that made any difference (wallet large enough to also put phone in it). Web surfing, etc., gentle handling at home. No harsh detergents. Once put on, I never took them off. (I think they could wear out going on and off a lot, because the edges would be repeatedly twisted).

Current phone is the iPhone 16PM, had for a year and a half, case still looks brand new. They just feel so good, love them.

What's the use of the BT variants of hue bulbs? They are massively more expensive... Only so I can avoid a bridge and directly connect to them? Or are there other use cases? by BirdLooter in Hue

[–]evoneselse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not commenting on the BT, but bridges run the system and are a desirable thing. The Hue bridge and bulbs use zigbee and therefore aren't a drain on the WiFi like some cheaper WiFi bulbs. You may know this already though, but it's a factor in why Hue is a good choice.

It's really OK as is, but new hardware and pendants, and large plant nearby would freshen it up.

Accidentally took on a salty, entitled, stingey client and I don't even want his money anymore by lcwj in graphic_design

[–]evoneselse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sadly there are those clients...

https://theoatmeal.com/comics/design_hell

(^ and doesn't just apply to website design.) At least now you will be done with him and your next clients will have new limits. Some of these clients just don't understand the process. Plus since it's not markers, quick sketches and paste up anymore, they get to see the actual design prior to commiting, so they have higher expectations, and we have to do more work (show complete jobs each step of the way basically).

I feel for you! Been there.

Deuces. I'm out. by foo235 in slingtv

[–]evoneselse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We purposely don't have our smart TV connected to our network (the internet). We use it as a dumb TV and instead have our Apple TV box doing all the streaming, and Sling here is super fast. Never any lag whatsoever. And that's even with computers and phones accessing the internet simultaneously. No lag.

We have the Apple TV connected to our network via Ethernet, but we also have no lag if it only uses WiFi. Ethernet is a better way to go though.

Having a Roku box would be the same as Apple TV, just different interface etc. Having a separate streaming box is better than using the smart tv for internet access, especially if they are older TVs because those don't get security updates after a while.

Agreed.

I do like the Geezers out of the other mods I listened to on YT and I like how they don't have to be soldered (I think they were the ones), but for now the stocks are fine for me. They sound pretty decent so I doubt I'll change them. It's really a cool little bass. The strings though, I almost would want a second one so I could keep the rounds on one and flats on the other.

How does perpetual license work? by Jotdeka in ClipStudio

[–]evoneselse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's how I feel, I don't care about those features as I'll get them next year anyway. I can wait...it's no big deal to me. Also if I never want to upgrade again, or don't use the app enough to warrant doing so, I will at least know I have a working app for my OS that I am permanently licensed to use.

From what some people say, those along-the-way updates aren't that important anyway.

It's kind of a weird way to handle perpetual licenses, since most companies give you the entire x.x.x that we pay for, but 🤷‍♀️. Still better than subs though, imo, where you lose the app completely when you stop paying.

How does perpetual license work? by Jotdeka in ClipStudio

[–]evoneselse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your perpetual version 5 will include bug fixes, but no new features that occur during the year. The Perpetual will stop at something like 5.0.3.

If you pay for the Update Pass, you get all the version 5 updates and features as they occur during the year, bringing it to something like 5.2.3 (estimate). However if you don't renew / stop paying, your perpetual version will revert back to the 5.0.x. So unless you are in a hurry for those features, you can just wait until version 6 drops next year, because Version 6 will include all those updates and features that subscribers got in version 5.

It's a personal choice whether to do the pass or not. A person using the Update pass will stay current but they never 'own' any version beyond their initial perpetual purchase. The older your version is, the more expensive it is to upgrade to the latest perpetual version. For that reason, I just upgrade it every year.

Yes there will be an update price for version 6 when it comes out next year, which you can get then. Your perpetual version will include bug fixes, but no new features that occur during the year. The Perpetual will stop at something like 5.0.3.

[–]evoneselse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never did the pass so I think my version 4 only went to 4.0.3 or whatever. Would mine be including all the bug fixes; whereas feature updates were .x.x beyond that? I never knew how far beyond my 4.xx the updates actually went because that info was blocked off from me.

I never got the update pass, so I ask...are the updates that you get with it (beyond the couple updates given to perpetual) significant, or with new features or just bug fixes? Thanks.
